Sketchbook was a show that kind of caught me off guard. I've never been one for quiet little slice of life shows; typically I find them to be rather dull and a waste of time. This show, however, I thoroughly enjoyed watching. The characters are sweet and believable in a way. They're all very cohesive and just fit together in a real genuine way. While there isn't much going on plot wise, the simplicity of the show is what really gives it special charm. I really liked the artwork as well. The way the characters art pieces are shown is beautiful and their personalities really ... show in their work. Sketchbook is a really relaxing show with a peaceful nature. From character quirks to the moments with the cats this show never fails to bring a smile to my face. It may not be thrilling or mind blowing, but all in all it's a great show that anyone could enjoy.

I did not like this anime. To be frank, I'm not sure why it has such a huge fan base. The artwork was sloppy in my opinion, with the "gore" looking very plain and unrealistic. Even the simple blood was such a bright red that it just looked awful to me. The story is just a bunch of crammed together bits of the most horrible things you can imagine happening to children, including the cliche abandonment and being unloved by everyone as well as rape, dismemberment, murder, torture, and becoming parts of scientific experiments. The characters are rather bland or cliche to me. The best ... part of this show? The opening song. No joke, I really like Lilium the song but that was pretty much all I liked about the show.

Laon is an interesting manga. The characters are pretty solid. The story starts out pretty good as well, though it tends to flounder at the end. Honestly, I enjoyed this manga a lot until the last volume. It kind of killed the slow build up and steady plot development. If they had just stretched it out another volume or two I really believe this could have been a great manga. It had some unexpected events happen at the end, though the final ending was a bit unsatisfying. On a sidenote, I find the artwork neat and unique, which was a big part of why I ... purchased this manga. I think this would almost translate better as an anime, where the story can be a bit more spread and the intricate designs can be in vivid color where they can truly be appreciated. All in all, it was a good read with a bumpy ending that could use some smoothing out.

When I started watching No. 6 I had high hopes for it. The plot seemed interesting, the characters seemed good, and I've always loved a good dystopian story. But as the show continued it just seemed to fall flat. The characters didn't develop well. The story was rushed, especially towards the end. I felt like the Nezumi/Shion pairing they put in the show was poorly done and felt practically forced just to please fangirls. Safu, while being an important character, was hardly in the show at all and all you really learn about her is that she has a thing for Shion. I was ... really disappointed by this anime. It could've been a lot better than it turned out to be with some character growth added and a story that didn't feel so rushed coming together. I felt that they had so much to work with but just didn't. Questions were left unanswered, the characters were a bit lackluster and the ending was rather predictable. Overall, the show ended up being utterly average.
