Parasite Dolls

The second Ghost in the Shell movie explores what it means to be a human, a traditional theme for cyberpunk. It does so by juxtaposing humans and robots, also bringing in things in between the two. Parasite Dolls is looking at the same thing, only with more emphasis on humans. Innocence is more demanding of its viewer, the character speak in quotes, the storylines are warped in a mix of reality and illusions. Parasite Dolls is much simpler yet it carries a similar spirit. Also both are action-packed and fun to watch, check them out!

JoJo's Bizarre Adventure is story about vampires and supernatural powers. But it is also a comedy. Granted, its a comedy with some drama mixed in, especially this season. But still, it is mostly comedy. And if you get the humor in JoJo's, you'll probably get the humor in Fist of the North Star too. It has a lot more drama, a lot more violence, but I think you can enjoy it the same way you enjoy JoJo's. And if you find JoJo's Bizarre Adventure to be a serious show and aren't happy about what I'm saying here, well, don't mind me, go ahead and watch Fist of the North Star, you'll like it for serious depictions of martial arts in the post apocalyptic settings. And if you are already a fan of Fist of the North Star, you should watch JoJo's, all of them. I've picked Hokuto no Ken Zero: Kenshirou Den out of all other movies cause I think its good entry for those who are not big fans of the older graphics.

Ninja Ryuukenden

Two anime about a guy wielding an outdated weapon to fight inhuman creatures and protect humanity from some mysterious threat. Each shows progress (or digression, if you will) into a rescue-the-girl type of story, with a traditional final battle that should both decide the fate of all of us, and save the love interest of the protagonist. Also, for all Kawajiri fans, Ninja Gaiden should be on your list, it is pretty similar to what Kawajiri used to make.

Buki yo Saraba
add

Two short pieces about soldiers at war. Buki yo Saraba features great animation, high tech war, and gives you a feeling that there is are some ideas and thoughts that people who made it were trying to give you, the viewer. Cat Shit One is more of a mindless action variety, CGI animated, featuring plushies with guns. Buki yo Saraba looks like it deals with some kind of a post apocalyptic civil war, while Cat Shit One looks more like the type of war western soldiers were experiencing at Middle East in recent years.

Kaumori

Movies from late-20s and early-30s, I guess you should watch more than one of them to get the feeling of this era in animation. And being 10-15 minutes long they let you binge on them pretty easily. Ugokie Kori no Tatehiki and Kaumori are fairytale-like stories featuring samurai and talking animals. They have western feel to them (guess because they look somewhat like early american animation), and yet they are very Japanese, having traditional Japanese music playing as the movies tell us their strange stories.

If you like really old Japanese animation (and you know, even if you don't) watch those two little movies and see how much have changed in the field of animation during last 85 years. Both Ugokie Kori no Tatehiki and Kobu-tori are about some supernatural events shown in a half-joking form. Both black and white.

Madhouse is a great studio. Just look at this two movies they made. Vampire Hunter D and Metropolis, in they are so different, yet each have great animation, detailed art style, rich backgrounds, vise use of digital technologies. I think it is something to be praised. Also both movies have talented directors, Rintaro did Metropolis and Kawajiri did Vampire Hunter. Metropolis came one year after Vampire Hunter, so Madhouse was on a roll back then.

If you are one of those thousands who watch this newest JoJo series right now, and you feel that there is something about it that you like, yet you can't put your finger on what it is exactly, here is a suggestion. Try watching Hokuto no Ken and see if you will get this same feeling. And you don't have to watch the 100 episodes long TV series, just check out the movie. Or you are one of those who watched everything Hokuto no Ken and you are lamenting the fact that they don't make anime like this anymore? Give JoJo's Bizarre Adventures a try, maybe it will melt your heart.

If you watched either of those you probably got this feeling that you have seen something special. Something that is not like what you usually see. Maybe it is because of the subject matter of each of the movies. Maybe it is because of the seriously good animation. Or maybe because each movie is realistic, yet not boring or mundane. But no matter the reason, they are both special, and you would not regret watching it. And... if you have seen one of the movies, you know there is some adult material in it, right? Not anything explicit, just not something that you should show to kids. Keep that in mind, the movies are similar in that aspect too.

Battle Royal High School

You want to watch another show where sci-fi style technology comes from no where? A show that is further from realism than Hokuto no Ken from being moe? Then get ready for a treat. Both Black Lion (Jigen Sengokushi: Kuro no Shishi - Jinnai Hen, if you want long Japanese name) and Battle Royal High School are very weird and defeat any presence of logic proving to be pure art. And with both shows being blood baths, be careful and don't show it to the unprepared ones.

Wrath of the Ninja and Blood Reign are similar in many ways. They tell stories of ninja living in Sengoku period Japan, in the time of Nobunaga. And both show have nothing to do with real history, except for the names of historical leaders that are mentioned occasionally. Instead of history we get to see ninja fighting demons with excessive violence. Also both anime feature some sort of a love story. So if you want to watch something about medieval Japan with rivers of blood, monsters and romance, pick any of the two.

If you have seen either Metropolis or Akira - you have seen one of the best animated movies ever made. So why stop? Watch the other one and see how good the animation can be. Akira and Metropolis expand the boundaries of animation, they show us the kind of visual art that we CAN create. And I've put the word 'can' in capital letters because there aren't many other anime that were done before or after those two shows, that were able to hold this high standard. Also both shows are sci-fi, though while Metropolis deals with human-robot interactions, Akira is an anime about psychic powers. And while Metropolis is kid-friendly, Akira is not.

Next A-Class

Watched one anime commercial and want to see more of that? There are some. Next A-Class is a really good one, and the one for Win7 is, well kinda ok. But you won't waste too much time watching it, so go for it. It is interesting to see the different approach two commercials take. Next A-class is concentrating on being entertaining while the Win7 one is trying to sell the product. Anyway, don't expect too much out of either of them.

You watch an anime with a dark atmosphere, where awful things happen to people, an anime full of violence that is not save for kids, or adults for that matter? And for some reason you want to watch more of that? Or maybe you just want to know what else to avoid? Anyway, Wicked City (Japanese name is Youjuu Toshi) and Apocalypse Zero (Japanese name is Kakugo no Susume) are quite similar in that regard. If you want to watch something that would test your nerves, go for it. If you rather would keep your sanity, stay away.

You just saw an anime commercial and you want more of that stuff? Well, here you go! Internet Explorer: The Anime is promoting an internet browser by showing a magical girl fighting robots, while Taisei Kensetsu is promoting a construction company Taisei by showing some beautiful anime scenery. Each of them is nice to watch, yet very short. As it should be, they are commercials after all, and you don't want to waste too much time watching those.

You want to see an anime about High School with some weird stuff going on? Closed spaces and psychic powers? Time travel maybe? And two girls one guy triangle? Well, The Melancholy of Haruhi Suzumiya would give you all that and add awesome Kyon narration. And Battle Royal High School give you all that and add Dark Lord and robotic suits. Considering how old Battle Royal High School is, this is probably the show that Haruhi watched as a kid and that changed her personality to what we got today. Watch both of the shows and see if I'm right.

add

Just like Aiura, K-On! has very nice animation and art style. K-On! is a show about a group of girls making a school music club, or so they say. Actually it is a show about a group of girls talking to each other and having fun, same deal as Aiura. Both shows are slow paced, but unlike Aiura, K-On! has a little bit of story development. And also, episodes of K-On! have normal length, so you are getting four times as much cuteness per episode.
