“To defeat evil, I must become a greater evil” - Lelouch vi Brittania
The importance of this quote throughout the story doesn't change. That is one of the things that makes Code Geass so good in comparison to other Mecha anime. Throughout the story, Lelouch is thrown obstacle after obstacle. Each time having to manipulate, lie and use Geass to protect his ideals.
Story:
The story that Clamp studios have created is masterful. From the amazing worldbuilding to the deep and complex characters. Everything is used to its full potential throughout the story. This overall leaves an immersion like no other into the world of Code
...
Geass.
Art:
The art style of Code Geass is unique and visually appealing. The character designs are interesting and help each individual character stand out. The facial expressions are executed perfectly in this show, especially Lelouch's. However, the art style doesn't always hold up and animation glitches do occur, but this is usually because of the lack of animation tools at the time the show was made.
Sound:
The OST of Code Geass is superb. From the ominous but well-written BGM or the fantastic OP performed by FLOW. Music in the show is well inserted and works wherever it is used. Scenes that don't need BGM, don't have BGM. The only criticism I have for the sound is in some of the later episodes the quality is lower than when the show was first airing.
Character:
The characters and character development are some of the best in the industry. When characters make decisions and how other characters react to them is all believable. The amount of detail that is shown about Lelouch is astounding and you really feel like you know him. The biggest thing that made the characters in the show really amazing is just how unique they really are. This goes from their design down to the little habits that they have. Some shows have an interesting MC but then leaves the supporting roles as copy-paste tropes that leave them bland and boring.
Enjoyment:
On the first watch of Code Geass, I found myself binging the whole show in one go. Each episode left me wanting more and more of this amazing story. Upon rewatching the series again I find more and more things that I never would have noticed in my first viewing.
Overall:
Overall, Code Geass is a classic must watch anime. The story is amazing, the art style is appealing, the OST is fantastic and the character development is masterful.
