The previous two movies on this series were great however this one just falls flat on its face. If you are reading this you are probably already familiar with how this series works, it's a character driven drama, where the climax is very important. So I'll be straight with why this movie is not as good as its preceding two: It's anticlimactic.

First 25 minutes of the movie is just entirely slice of life. Only around the 30th minute we're actually introduced to the main premise of the movie. And what I mean by 'slice of life' is entirely 'slice of life'. During Dreaming Girl, ... the slice of life portion of the movie was filled with build up for the premise of the movie. However, in this one there is barely any build up and we're suddenly hit by the adolescence syndrome out of nowhere, completely unannounced.

In Dreaming girl, we're shown compelling character drama after the very important revelation (that actually had build up). After that, we're shown two clear options: MC dies to save that girl or MC lives and stays with Mai. It puts us, the watcher, at the edge of our seats. However, in Knapsack kid, the MC just runs around talking to people and cries for no fucking reason for like 25% of the movie. No drama, no nothing. Nothing impressionable happened during the runtime of the show. I was like "is it already over?" when it finished.

The entire character arc is also just so shallow that the series would be the same if this movie never existed. This is the first time we're shown his mom and she's the cause for the adolescence syndrome. And the reason for the adolescence syndrome is actually way too unreasonable because the MC's feelings are hard to understand towards his mother. There could've been something else to give his adolescence syndrome some reason.

And the climax man, the MC just says a few lines while crying and then suddenly, the adolescence syndrome is cured and they start hugging while crying. This interaction took around 1 minute and that was the entire climax of the one hour movie.

To conclude, there was no character drama in this movie and you probably won't miss anything from not watching it. Waste of time.

Is Makeine even a romance?

After 11 episodes, it doesn't look like they're developing any romantic feelings for each other. Okay. The romance might just be a slow burner. So I did some research and even in the latest LN chapters, their relationship stays entirely platonic.

Why does the author not want to introduce romance to his perfectly fleshed out characters. Worse, it feels like they're dangling a thread of romance in front of our faces which will always stay out of reach. I feel like I'm being edeged. It hurts.

The characters are very loveable. And what I mean by that is that the girls are ... top tier waifu material. Only if there was romance...

The satisfaction of romance anime is to watch the main characters get together and do diabetic stuff together. Sadly, this show simply replaying the grim reality of my life that I'd never get a girlfriend.

Are they trying to bring a new refreshing show to the conventional romance genre? It doesn't even make sense from that point of view. Romance feels new when the process of the main leads getting together is new. Which Makeine has already achieved.

I wouldn't recommend if you're here for the romance. While its not as bad as NTR, it's not enjoyable either.

To me, dialogue carries some shows. But in Makeine's case, despite its attempts, the dialogue is mediocore.

I'm not entirely sure what makes a dialogue great. But I like to think of it like the secret coca cola recipe. Those authors who have the recipe can make popping dialogue that feels great, authentic and makes the reader feel as if it were said by a real person, even if that dialogue doesn't add anything to the plot.

But regrettably, Makeine lacks that secret recipe, which makes the reader feel bored, as if the characters are simply speaking like robots.

This manga is unnecessarily dark/sad that its barely even enjoyable.

All of the characters (especially the main character) are all genuinely not even a good person. To the point that we can't even sympathize with anyone.

(skip this paragraph spoilers) Let me explain why its unnecessarily dark with bitches as characters
There's this one bully at school. She bullies Main character cuz she got friendly with her crush... OK I can understand that much.
BUT JUST for bullying her at school, the main character gotta have to get her bully kidnapped and RAPED???

It hints at a greater psychological meaning... but it takes place in a school, ... where every character does stupid shit so its hard thinking about the deeper meaning. And most source of conflict is the same goddamn thing: to fit in. I know some people have trouble with fitting in but goddamn is it really such a massive issue? But perhaps it is for girls idk.

Unless you like "i can fix her" type stuff, there's no point you should be reading this.
