If I was to sum up the entire series so far in two words, it would be these: simply amazing.
Story: 10
This story is definitely one of the best I have seen so far in an anime. It follows the story of seven young men who are put in a school called the Shōnan Special Reform School, which is basically just a prison. They don't know anything about each other at first but eventually they grow closer and form a bond that is so strong it can never be broken.
Art: 9
The art in Rainbow is decent. Nothing spectacular but nothing to complain about. The animation is
...
fluid and everything is easy to see. Unlike many anime there are no chibi/joke scenes. The majority of the scenes are darker due to the general atmosphere of the show. The reason I gave it a 9 is that the show is very grainy, which is more or less a matter of preference.
Sound: 10
The opening and ending are very good. The opening is completely in English while the ending features both Japanese and English. They both do an excellent job of conveying the message of bonds and not giving up, which showcases the show's values perfectly. The show itself doesn't have a lot of music but when there is music it does a good job of capturing the mood.
Characters: 10
The characters in Rainbow are excellent. They all have very different personalities and they all gradually change over time. Not just the protagonists, but even the antagonists are very well developed.
Overall/Enjoyment: 10
This show is really a must-see, there isn't much like it in the world of anime. Some of you might be reluctant to pick up Rainbow like I was, since it doesn't exactly look like the best show in the world on the outside. However, trust me, watch an episode or two, and you'll know exactly when I'm talking about. You'll be glad that you did.
