This review includes my thoughts on BOTH 86 and 86 Part 2.
The beginning episodes of 86 may not be something a lot of people will enjoy, as the show doesn't spoon-feed the audience with information, and only gives just enough for certain viewers to be enticed by, but completely confusing the common anime viewer.
On your FIRST watch, please be prepared to slowly figure things out throughout the show on your own, instead of expecting the show to just say the plot points to you outright.
Best Qualities of The Show
- The soundtrack for 86 really elevates the scenes that they are used in. Especially during emotional
...
moments.
- The directing is amazing. From start to finish, each frame in the show is used to their absolute limit, holding immense amounts of meaning and lore.
- The two main characters' journey and how the story managed to juggle between their perspectives effectively.
Worst Qualities of The Show (If I had to nitpick)
- Other characters' backstories were never explored explicitly in the show, which was disappointing.
- A lot of the plot points at the start of the show are subtle and hard to point out. (For my first watch, a lot flew over my head, but it was still great to watch)
Overall, a perfect show, not for casual anime viewers, great OST, amazing characters, meaningful directing, and a fulfilling ending.
TIP: Always be LOCKED THE FUCK IN when watching the show, or just rewatch it like what I did.
