I'm sorry to be 'that guy' but I really don't understand why this is rated so high. This is the first light novel I've read and I did enjoy it but it isn't the best thing ever.
To all who are not sure of reading it, give it a shot. You might enjoy it. The character Aya Otonashi might just be the best thing in this first volume followed by Usui. I didn't really feel much for the main character. He just seemed bland and boring in his choice of dialogue. I also wasn't really sure which side he was

Corpse Party: Tortured Souls is purely for that WTF?! factor. It's very enjoyable in how it introduces so much gore and despair into the lives of such innocent high school students.
Where I have a lot of my problems is how they could have done a LOT more with this OVA. The game has much more to it and this show took all the bad ends and just slapped them together. Character development was scarce and the pacing was just too quick. There were a lot more emotional aspects in the game that I really enjoyed and was disappointed that it failed to show here. In general, harem shows are often just about the ecchi/romance and focuses very less on the actual plot that it's constructed on.
Nevertheless, I watch many harem anime just for the lols and the fanservice moments. Sometimes, the character interactions are fun too. Where I.S. failed even in doing this much is with its extremely annoying main character, Orimura Ichika. I can't write an unbiased opinion of him because I just hate him so much.
