I personally loved this story - mainly because it wasn't too heavy, it's more of a light hearted story which can be enjoyed by children too, it's in the "magical girl" genre along with other anime such as sailor moon. Although it's a children's type anime I think it can be enjoyed by people of any age!
The story is well told through the TV series, there are again characters you are going to fall in love with, I doubt there'll be any you dislike, the animation is in my opinion of a really good standard, the characterizations are also of a high standard.

personally I thought this anime was absolutely fantastic! however, I think it's the type of anime you're either going to love or hate because it's shoujo it has a lot of romance, comedy etc and I'll admit the romance can get a bit repetitive at times but that's the reason I enjoyed this anime. In my opinion Fushigi Yugi is an anime where the viewer can at least fall in love with one character if not all because I think their characterisations are so accurate to real life.
