This is biased of me as someone who does judo but I absolutely loved this anime from beginning to end. I remember actually seeing this being advertised by Abe Uta who won gold in the -52kg weight category in the 2020 Olympics, I was shocked to find out that not only was there a judo manga but that she was advertising the ANIME and knew immediately I had to watch. If you do judo you'll thoroughly enjoy it, I loved watching it and using my novice knowledge of judo to say "OH SHE'S GOING FOR THE OSOTO" or "SEOI NAGE NOW" or "DON'T LET HER
...
GET THE TOP GRIP" heh. Absolutely fantastic slice of life/sports anime, even if you don't do judo (which I highly recommend you do start if you'd like) you'll enjoy just the wholesomeness amongst the girls in the show.
Story: 9/10
I absolutely loved the entirety of the story, the beginning is essentially similar to the Haikyuu where once rivals are now on the same team, but it's different as they aren't combative against one another but have a fellow desire to do judo. I loved how you see them progress throughout the story, develop a bond with one another, and revive the judo club from the ground up.
Art: 8/10
I'm no artist hence I can't comment much. I will say the style perfectly fits the story that was being told, didn't need to be Makoto Shinkai-level art, perfectly balanced of not too detail but not too crappy.
Characters: 9/10
I loved how each character had their own individuality. Michi was the energetic and determined one, Towa was the ace but was actually shy than flamboyant despite her skill, Sanae was timid yet determined to become better, Anna though on the sideline proved herself by studying the opponents during tournaments to assist her team, and Tsumugi returning to the club one last time after the club had shrunk down to only her. I personally enjoyed Anna's character, though minor, I liked how throughout the beginning it was hinted that she felt empty when doing kendo and realized that she didn't enjoy it without having Michi around. Despite being amazing at kendo she realized it didn't mean anything if there was no one to share the experience with hence she joined judo to get that.
Enjoyment: 10/10
As I said I do judo hence I'm biased. Every time they sparred or a match they were doing, I was watching with excitement seeing how they would fight. I'd even call out wazari or ippon as if I were the referee heh, always a blast to point out the minute details. As I'm a novice I don't know the names of some of the throws but nonetheless most in the anime I've done before in practice so I had a general idea of what the throw was. There's not much else to say, I'm biased so my enjoyment of this anime was 10/10, later down the line I may even watch it a second time and while a 2nd season is probably unlikely I'd love to see it.

After just completing the manga, I personally can say that the series is worth a read. Fair warning I'd say between chapters 100 - 121ish I noticed lots of people began getting a little upset but bear with it cause the ending is full circle. Some spoilers in my breakdown below so read at your own discretion. Also, the names I use are actually their real assigned names lol, the author never gave them real names, just nicknames as you'll see if you do read the series.
- Story 8/10
Throughout the beginning, I thought it was just gonna be like any other manga involving a guy
...
and a girl and they eventually fall in love yada yada. While yes it did go down that road I will say it wasn't like many mangas where the female is some sort of tsundere and stuff falling head over heels. The story progressed at a good pace, in my opinion, got straight to the point of what was wanted to be expressed, and introduced the drama or surprise action, etc. As I mentioned 100-121 it gets a bit iffy as Tobacco/Senpai is conflicted with her feelings and has a whole dilemma of being known as the "perfect/flawless" person at work and in the relationship. It got to the point where the MC/Rookie-Kun was beginning to realize that he had put every effort to be the best person for her but she kept shutting him down at the slightest mistake hence why many people said Tobacco and Rookie aren't a good match. But an overall good story, some iffy points but good overall.
- Art 10/10
I'm no artist/not picky, if it isn't pixelated and I can read it just fine and see the details then it's a 10/10 for me lol
- Characters 9/10
I loved most of the characters in the story, my favorite was the friendship between Rookie-Kun and Blondie-Chan, he really never gave her a single break constantly calling her gorilla till the end XD. Namajime was also a good character, his straightforwardness was interesting in a sense that within like 3 or so chapters of being introduced he had a date with Blondie. Mocchan was wholesome as well, having to deal with being the tall girl all her life she developed the confidence to change herself in the end. BEST CHARACTER OF ALL IS GRANDPA/BOSS, ABSOLUTE WINGMAN, also he's just so wholesome wanting to cherish his time with all of his young workers, listening to their problems and giving them advice. Even though he was speaking to the characters in the manga, it was like he was also giving advice to the reader, some of which I'm still trying to comprehend as I re-read the advice he gave. And last of all is Tobacco, she's a good character overall, teasing of course and at times I will admit I understood her brushing off of Rookie as wanting to protect his innocence or something (which might've been the original reason she brushed him off in the beginning) but it's revealed that it's because she's learned to be independent and not rely on others often hence as the story progresses you'll see she learns to lean on others more and such.
- Enjoyment 9/10
The banter between Rookie and Blondie brought me the most joy, god it was like a reward getting to see the omake of Rookie making a gorilla comment and Blondie either beating him up or making a come back at him which still leads to hand-to-hand combat lol. It was nice seeing the relationship between Tobacco and Rookie slowly grow, seeing the ups and the downs, and eventually getting the ending that left me honestly feeling bittersweet and a sense of melancholy. Though I did read it on and off until chapter 36 and straight shot it from 37 to the last chapter in one day (lol) it still left me feeling like "dang, it's done huh, shame". I think the main reason for that was just seeing the boss/grandpa reflecting on how in the end all of the young workers he cherishes found their happiness and he didn't let them believe they were gonna end things sour. I'll be honest with you I think originally I was onboard the whole "do da deed already >:)" but as I read I was more interested in their relationship progressing so even when it did happen it was like a blip in the whole story even though that was what the MC wanted the whole time heh.

The ratings tend to fluctuate so just consider my review my own view of the show. This is technically more of a joint review as I'll be rating the others like the movies and special episode in one review.
Violet Evergarden was an anime I had seen for some time but never considered watching. I only recently learned it was popular and decided to give it a try: boy was I missing out. I had never expected the story to be about a young girl who essentially was bred for war and to live a military life to transition into the regular world as a writer.
...
I've always been keen on war and the military so it personally intrigued me to see an anime tackle what life is like post-war. Now begins my explanation for each rating.
Story: 9/10
To reiterate I loved the plot of the MC, Violet, who only knew war, learning what "love" is and additionally what it meant to feel. Many complain this is a cliche topic which I cannot argue it technically is, however, I myself tend to enjoy whatever no matter how cliche. Also to reiterate, I was inquisitive about how the anime would tackle post-war life in a country. I loved how it showed the effect of the war on everyone, not just focusing on how it affected solely Violet. War is ugly and the quote many know, "there are no winners in war" proves true as evident in the anime. The aptness of the term "burn/burning" in the anime was outstanding, though I cannot comment on this I've seen a few comments from those who experienced PTSD say it was an accurate feeling.
It illustrated hate, pain, grief, regret, etc. through the people Violet visited, even if the story had no correlation to war. To tie it back to Violet, these stories are what helped Violet learn to think for herself, learn emotions, and many things she either suppressed or was unable to do.
Art: 10/10
I have to say I loved the art, extremely detailed. Cannot speak too much on this topic as art is not my forte per se however the art was amazing.
Sound: 8/10
It's good. lol. The music fit great, sound effects worked well, etc.
Character: 8/10
[Ok first off I have to say this, I swear it's almost as if they made Violet based on Rei from Evangelion (the remakes at least). The same idea of an emotionless girl who learns to express herself and not have to rely on the orders of others, etc. It's been some time since I've watched Eva but Violet just reminded me of her.]
OK, HERE WE GO. Loved the characters, Violet was funny in her own way even when the story didn't mean to make it funny. I think it's cause of my messed-up mentality but I found the smallest things funny with her character and her actions. I found it nice that
Enjoyment: 9/10
Loved the anime, truly struck a chord with me. If I had to rank my favorite stories, I'd say the Father, Anne, and then the soldier. The pacing was great, each story that Violet encountered was unique in its own way, and it all tied together. I experienced tons of emotions while watching, all of which contribute to why I enjoyed it.
Overall: 9/10 (despite what I rated it lol)
I truly did enjoy Violet Evergarden, I regret not watching it earlier but I believe when you reach an age where you comprehend things better it makes it more meaningful and enjoyable. The anime itself also makes you critically think about real topics of the world which it did for me. As I am currently joining the military I told myself while watching that I'm proud of my decision to be in a non-combat role as I don't want any "burns" or to be "burning" due to my actions in a war. Violet Evergarden is something I'd recommend to anyone who has even the slightest interest in the military or serious topics in general.

Sadness, pain, absolutely destroyed. Truly a sword through the heart story. The first chapter itself will make you either want to propose or be proposed to in the same way.
Story: 10/10
WARNING, YOU WILL BE SAD NO MATTER HOW MANY TIMES YOU READ IT!!! Absolutely well written, the story progressed at excellent pacing, with great moments of romance, comedy, and caring with moments of seriousness. The story has a unique insight into life in Japan prior to and during World War II and the cost of war in general. You truly do see the characters grow old and see their love for one another and the
...
people they're surrounded by. In a few chapters, the story captured a lifetime of a couple and ends it beautifully. Was so sad I just re-read the last chapters again and I'm sad, that's how well-written the story is.
Art: 8/10
Once again not an artist so I don't give my views but I liked the art, detailed well.
Character: 10/10
Essentially all the characters are well written. Showing the different classes of life in early 20th century Japan, you kinda get a slight hint of what life was like back then. The beginning introduces the past and the hardships the characters face, and as it progresses shows their love for one another burgeon and makes you jealous.
Enjoyment: 10/10
The 10/10 is for how much I love it, I hate it for tearing me up like this and leaving me empty no matter how many times I read it. Very seldom do mangas do this and I'd say this is the only manga or anything in general that makes me feel this way.
Overall: 9/10
Love it. Can't even put it into words how much I love it, all I can say is it's too good that I'd spend any amount to get a literal paperback of this manga. I give it a 9/10 solely because of the damage the book does to my emotions.

Like everyone who has written a review on this manga, I'd have to agree with how upsetting the ending is despite the manga being amazing and wholesome throughout the chapters. Below is my review, IT WILL INCLUDE SPOILERS
SPOILERS BELOW!!!!!!!!!
...
Story: 2/10
Loved the beginning of the manga, wholesome at its best between a man looking after a girl who already has had a tough life to start with. Loved all the chapters including the time skip, don't care what others say it's good to see them older, and the experiences of raising teenagers from a parent's POV as 1-24 covered younger children. HOWEVER, the reason I give it a 2/10 is ultimately the ending was abysmal, absolutely ruined the entire momentum of the story. Such a shame. Would've been better if Daikichi ended up with Yukari as they CONTINUOUSLY HINTED AT and Kouki ended up with Rin since we find out Rin isn't related to Daikichi so it works out technically. Plus the random inclusion that Rin isn't related to Daikichi would work out and I'm sure it'd get some hate but it'd work out if it ended normally rather than how it is in the last chapter. But sadly that ending never came and the story was ruined.
Art: 8/10
Not much of an artistic person but art was good.
Character: 8/10
They were well written, loved the drama with Kouki, sure that all parents worry if their child shows rebellion and acts temerariously. The only flaw is that Daikichi gave in and actually went ahead with marrying Rin, wish it was similar to "After The Rain" which if you know what happens between the two characters you'll understand.
Enjoyment: 9/10
This is excluding the ending and Rin having feelings for Daikichi. I personally enjoyed it, rooted for Daikichi and Yukari the whole time but ultimately knew how it was gonna end. Shame that they never ended up together but that's life. The only thing that's not life is marrying the girl you raised for 10 years like your own daughter. Such a shame.
I'm already pretty desensitized to bad stuff so this doesn't phase me or disgust me much and I couldn't care less how it ended, I'm just glad in the end everyone is happy. But my logical side of course says the ending was terrible and made no sense, ending should have been different whether it be Rin getting rejected by Daikichi and ultimately both find their own love or the ending I'm sure others including myself had in mind with Dakichi and Yukari and Rin with Kouki. Onto the next manga.

As someone who's only watched it so far I'll say I very much enjoyed it. While others say it makes them want to have a child I thought of the anime more of just another wholesome story. Not to mention I'm just starting my life so my first concern should be to graduate and get a stable job in a few years heh. But I will say I very much liked the entirety of the story.
Story: 10/10
The story progressed naturally, wasn't super fast, wasn't super slow, just the right pace. As for the story itself, I loved how it incorporated wholesome moments but also moments
...
that make sense like the concept of divorce or being an illegitimate child. Daikichi is someone I resonate with because for the most part, I tend to focus on my work and what I like then think about a relationship. While of course I'd like one, the next day comes and I think about what I gotta do today and it's an endless cycle. It really fits my personal liking as it tackles issues involving family but for the most part is wholesome.
Art: 8/10
I'd say the art is very good, of course, it's not like 2021/22 standards of detailed and high quality but it's unique. I noticed at the beginning of each episode it was like water coloring animation, very unique, and in my opinion, is amazing. The detail was there itself and for something made in 2011 was very good. I'm not an artistic person so I can't describe too much but all I'd say is the art was very good.
Sound: 8/10
The sounds were very good, not much I can really say for it but yeah it was good heh. The background music really caught the melancholy moments throughout as well as the wholesome moments.
Character: 9/10
Loved every character, was especially crushing on Kouki's mom >:) but the main two, Rin and Daikichi, were very well written. Daikichi being a 30-year-old who had a normal life who was then thrown into the reality of parenthood when he took 6-year-old Rin into his care. Rin was also well written to the point she reminds me of myself at 6, losing teeth, inquisitive about things we don't know, making friends wherever you go, etc. From Dakichi's POV, you see the struggles parents endure while raising a child, especially one that young that can't care for themself. I empathize with parents those first 12 years since every moment you have to worry if your kid's alright. Loved the characters the entire time.
Enjoyment: 10/10
Wholesome with my personal liking of seriousness. Wasn't super depressing where every episode dropped a sad bomb on you, even when there was the story balanced it back out with a wholesome moment.
Onto the manga which I just found out is hard to come by but I got the last volume so I'll read eveyrthing online and read the last when I reach it.

Science is indeed all around us, and Dr. Stone shows that whether it's engineering, chemistry, mathematics, etc. If you're looking for a different manga than the typical fantasy, enjoy the ambiguous field of science, or want a good laugh (with some serious tones at times of course), Dr. Stone is for you.
Dr. Stone does an amazing job putting into perspective how much humanity has achieved in all the time its been alive up until today in the 21st Century. The knowledge of the Earth and space itself, the technology we've developed, the theories we've solved, etc. When reading or if you finish the manga,
...
take a few minutes to yourself to appreciate all that humanity has accomplished, the computer or phone you type on today took centuries to come to.
Story: 9/10
The story has great pacing for each arc. The information that is given throughout the story to the reader, who themselves unknowingly learn a thing or two in science, is insightful and definitely a way to peak one's interest in science. The only reason I gave it a 9/10 is that I agree with some others that it felt slightly rushed, I personally can't explain where it was specifically but part of it felt rushed towards the end. Otherwise, the pacing overall was great, not super fast that it feels like it skipped something and not super slow to where it takes like 10 chapters to get past one obstacle.
Art: 10/10
Dr. Stone isn't meant to be a top-quality manga, instead, the style it utilizes throughout is what makes it enjoyable. The art adds to the comedy, my personal favorite is their shocked faces when they stare blankly as if "well s**t". Additionally, the cover art for the mangas or the chapters is what kicks it to the 10/10, amazing detail, well-drawn, not a spec of error from my view.
Character: 10/10
Every character in Dr. Stone was well made. Characters who would play a vital part in the series were well written to the point it makes you love all of them as the author would give them a chapter or two t focus on them. As someone who likes series like Dr. Stone where it's a mixture of 80% comedy 20% serious, I loved how all the characters were comical, even the characters you least expect. The way they were written and how it's not 100% serious and mundane is what sold me to give it a 10/10.
Enjoyment: 10/10
Need I say more about my enjoyment? Every chapter brought me joy, it was almost impossible for me to find a chapter that didn't make me want to read on. Due to me being a biology major in addition to my love and inquisitiveness of the world, Dr. Stone resonated with me closely. One thing that stuck with me is the quote by Senku when he says, "It’s not that there are things that science can’t explain, you look for the rules behind those things". My interpretation is that science has an explanation for everything, so the things we think today are impossible are possible, we just haven't gotten there yet or don't have the resources to reach it yet. This only fires me up, as they say throughout the series, and it motivates me to continue pursuing science.
Overall: 10/10
Dr. Stone is a series I can confidently say is my favorite show of all time. I tend to be an individual where if I'm not fully interested, I have no desire to read it so I spoil it myself. After finding out that Dr. Stone had concluded I took almost two days to finish from chapter 178 all the way to 232, telling myself I must know how this amazing story ends. This is rare of me to do but Dr. Stone is worth its weight in gold. It saddens me that it has concluded as I write this on 3/15/2022, but seeing as all good things come to an end it brings me joy to know how it ends as well. My only wish is that I could go back and experience Dr. Stone for the first time all over again. I have yet to write a review about a series as I reserve it for shows I truly enjoy or if I have to warn people about a series being extremely abysmal. Dr. Stone is my very first review and I'm glad to have it as my first, I hope to keep reviewing other series that give me the same joy as Dr. Stone. As Senku says, "Get Excited!"
