Mixed Feelings
The show has its charm, not an entire waste of time. It's certainly a throwback to simpler, more innocent times in more than one regard. However, there was so much buildup for such little payout. The show is just too slow, you get to care about the characters after a while but if you take away the episodes that revolve around some retarded "misunderstanding", which is just the author not being very creative/smart on that particular chapter, you could have cut the total number of episodes by half.

What was more disappointing was that they chickened out when tackling the fundamental conflict ...

There's nothing I can say that haven't been said already but I'm just gonna add that there's probably no other story, no matter the medium, where the existential anguish of a human race on the brink of extinction is represented as masterfully as it was on this show. It's one of the more human shows I have watched particularly because we don't get the usual idealistic (and caricaturistic) representation of the soldier that we are accustomed to. The soldiers on Attack on Titan are human, they are very brave yes but they are also afraid for their lives and that of their comrades. They are ...

In many ways this is your usual shonen story: a plain, unremarkable guy suddenly gets involved in an extraordinary situation when his life is disrupted by a girl that has fallen from the sky (not exactly but I hope you get my point). And yet there's something very special about this series and the way it deals with the emotional issues affecting their main characters. It was just adorable to see Shana struggle with the conflicting emotions she was having. They also were a sign of just how young she truly was despite the great responsibility she bore. I think that emotional struggle is something ...

Mixed Feelings
Preliminary (14/26 eps)
They really tried making a series out of just titillating the viewer but that can only take you so far: you need an actual story and characters in order to make people want to sit through each episode. This series didn't even have something that even your most average, run of the mill harem-type gets decently right: comedy. It just didn't have any laughs in it. It had the gags but none of the laughs. The author very clearly wanted to make the easiest buck in his life with this manga and given its popularity (the manga as well as the anime) I have to ...

Mixed Feelings
Preliminary (35/75 eps)
I have to say, it started out very fine. Since at the beginning of an anime (or any story really) you want to know about the main character and what drives her/him and the first few episodes were very good at this, I thought I had found a very good sports anime. However, after your main character has been established and fairly well developed you start to want *more* from a series and this is where Hajime no Ippo falls way too short. It essentially only has one real character (Ippo) the others are caricatures at worst and explainers at best. The only characters that ...
