This'll be a brief review and not a detailed analysis.
'Blue Period', adapted from Manga series written and illustrated by Tsubasa Yamaguchi, is a Fall 2021 Anime produced by Seven Arcs.
Story (7/10)
The story follows Yatora Yaguchi who finds a new interest in Arts which grows into his passion and ambition overtime. He sets on a journey to enter the extremely competative Tokyo University of Arts— which accepts only one in 200 applicants. Will he be able to fulfill his dream? That's what this season of Blue Period is about.
The story follows a linear pattern and has nothing new to offer as such. However,
...
it is engaging enough to keep you hooked. Though technically a bit weak, it managed to maintain the emotional aspects to grab one's interest. It succeeded in showing the major hurdles that every University applicants face to get into their dream institutes. But as an anime with art as one of its main themes, more screentime should have been devoted to the process of creating art.
Characters (7/10)
Yaguchi offers nothing new as a slice of life protagonist. Rather the most interesting character in this show is Ryuji who, in my opinion, deserved more screentime. Characters of Hashida, Takahashi and Kuwana are also quite known to us. Oba Sensei is another character worth mentioning. We all desire such a supportive teacher to guide us. The characters are decently written and the character development in Yaguchi was portrayed decently as well. All the characters are lovable and relatable.
Animation and Artwork (6.5/10)
The Animation was decent but this show deserved better artwork. The Animation was fluid, but the artwork was disappointing, keeping in mind the fact that this is a story about art itself. Nevertheless, the paintings were quite beautiful.
Music (7/10)
The opening theme 'Everblue' (Omoinotake) and the ending theme 'Replica' (mol-74) are quite catchy and go well with the mood of the anime. The bgm is decent. The voice actors did a good job giving life to the characters.
I enjoyed while watching the anime, in spite of all the drawbacks. If you love art, or if you are a fan of Slice of Life, Drama, you should give this a watch. A decent anime to watch.

Actually I decided not to write any spoiler free reviews anymore. But when you finish an incomplete adaptation and absolutely loved it,I think this is the best way to show appreciation. I'll probably review the manga later since this animanga is brimming with potential.
Story: 8/10
The story takes place in the 10th century,an era of Vikings and pirates. It begins with a Viking named Thors faking his death and deserting his gang Jomsvikings because he grew tired of killing and taking human lives and escaped to Iceland with his wife and newborn daughter Ylva. Even though he gave up his living as a warrior, during
...
his battling days he had earned the title of "Troll of Jom" because of his phenomenal combat skills. Arriving in Iceland he lived a normal life with his family and made sure his second child, his son named Thorfinn is put on the path of peace. Young Thorfinn grew up listening to stories of the old sailors who've traveled the ocean and reached the place of legend,Vinland. The tales said that it was warm and fertile, not frozen like the village in Iceland where he was born and life there was different from the mercenary life he was living. A land far from war and chaos.
While Thorfinn grew up,a war between Denmark and England starting waging and Thorfinn's father, the almighty Thors was summoned back to join the Jomsvikings in exchange for terminating his punishment for deserting them in the past. However, Thors ended up giving his life because of the ploys of a man named Floki and fell to a pirate gang lead by Askeladd,a cunning leader born out of war and destruction. While Thorfinn began his journey of vengeance for his father, the war started to became worse with each passing year.
Characters: 8.5/10
Vinland Saga has the perfect cast that a well written medieval story would have. While the protagonist Thorfinn is quite intriguing, the most interesting character of the series is probably Askeladd, one of the most cunning anime characters who's battle brains truly deserves appreciation. Aside from them,Prince Canute and Thorkell are two other characters whom the audience might love.
Art and animation: 7.5/10
The artwork is is engrossing and goes perfectly well with the medieval setting of the series. Moreover, some of the background arts are absolutely astounding. The animation doesn't go any easy on the portrayal of gore in war and Viking raids.
Info: While the first season only explores Thorfinn's journey for the revenge for his father's death, the story will be continued in a second season. Release date is yet to be announced. The first season has covered about 54 chapters of the source material and the manga is still under publication when this review was written.

I don't generally write spoiler free reviews but I'll make an exception for this. Mainly because this review will cover a brief analysis of all the three seasons, just what to expect from this series.
Source material:
Fruits Basket Manga, which always has been one of the most popular shoujo mangas not just in Japan but even in the West. Part of the manga was first adapted into an anime by Studio Deen back in 2001, but the series was dropped midway because of certain reasons. Much to the delight of FruBa fans, the franchise got a reboot in 2019 and this time by TMS Entertainment which is
...
quite well know because of animes like Dr. Stone, Detective Conan etc.
Story: 9/10
As claimed by many anime fans, Fruits Basket is known to be one of the best stories told in the media, especially under the demography of shoujo.
Our protagonist, the kind hearted Tohru Honda has always been fascinated by the Chinese Zodiac whose tales she used to hear from her mother when she was a child. When a sudden family tragedy and the following consequences changes her life, she ends up living in a tent without the knowledge that her tent actually resides on the private property of members of the esteemed Sohma family. When Tohru ends up stumbling across their home one day, she meets the Sohma's one of whom turns out to be her classmate. With certain turn of events, Tohru ends up discovering the family secret of the Sohma's: when touched or hugged by the opposite gender they turn into respective Zodiac animals. As the story progresses further, due to various consequences and events which are better off unspoiled Tohru finds herself living with the Sohma's and dwelves further into the secret of the Sohma's. Soon she starts learning about the Zodiac curse which has been passed down the family for generations and on meeting the other zodiac members of the esteemed clan one by one,she understands things aren't as light hearted as they seems to be. The journey of her attempt to break the generation long curse begins!
Characters: 9.5/10
The best part about Fruits Basket is probably its characters. From each of the Zodiac members to several other side characters, the series can easily boast a big cast of extremely well written characters. Almost all of them has their own backstories which is bound to pique the interest of the audience. The first season mostly spends its span of 25 episodes introducing the characters, but in a way which leaves the audience interested to know what happens next. While this process might leave the impression of a slow pace on you, trust me it's worth it at the end.
The protagonist Tohru Honda is a "must protect" cinnamon roll loved by every fan,and the antagonist Akito Sohma remains interesting until the very end.
Animation and visuals: 8/10
The series has quite fluid artwork and animation and gives the perfect vibe and environment needed for the story. There has been no off moment in the 3 seasons on this aspect.
Difference from the 2001 version of Fruits Basket:
The 2001 Fruits Basket dropped off almost exactly the same point of the story where the first season of the reboot ended, but while the former focused more on the humour and slap stick comedy, the reboot takes a serious tone but at the same time doesn't forget to add humour to keep the comedy lovers entertained as well. Also, the reboot got its full adaption of the story with Fruits Basket season 2 (2020) and Fruits Basket:The Final(2021) with a perfect conclusion which left the fans satisfied.
I won't review the sound part, didn't research on it much but the S3 OP is one of my favourites.

Note: This review is of the entire Date A Bullet as a whole, thus covering both parts: Dead or bullet as well as Nightmare or Queen.
Have you ever been in a situation where you're not really a big fan of a particular series and yet absolutely love one of the characters in it? I haven't,but that was before I watched Date A Live. The original Date A Live series is quite popular, even so according to me it's definitely NOT a must watch. But the most popular character from this franchise definitely helps in the marketing, because I already knew her before I started watching. I didn't
...
know her name, she was just "the girl with the weird eyes" for me since I've seen her numerous times on social media. Halfway through the first season of Date A Live I understood why is she so damn popular.
Kurumi Tokisaki, undoubtedly has the potential to claim herself a spot among the best girls in all of anime...at least that's what I feel and I know that I'm not the only one who feels that. She's a supporting character and an antagonist in D.A.L and didn't appear for the first half of the season, but when she did one of the first things which came to mind was "Damn this girl deserves her own show." And surprisingly, she did! Which brings us to:
DATE A BULLET.
Story: 7.5/10
Those who have watched Kurumi Star Festival would know about how Kurumi killed one of her clones for falling in love with Shido(in case anyone doesn't know about her powers, the original Kurumi can create time clones with different versions of herself. Since she's a personality who doesn't bend to other's will, finding out that one of her versions has fallen in love with the protagonist, she killed her). Having died a miserable death in her own hands, Kurumi finds herself in an alternate dimension, known as "The Neighbouring World". Waking up to an entire new world about which she doesn't have any knowledge, she finds out that she's part of a battle royale against other girls known as "Quasi spirits" each with their own purpose of winning the battle. She saves the life of a girl named Hibiki, who's also participating in the battle but is too weak to win against any of the other opponents. From Hibiki, Kurumi gets to know that some mysterious entity called "Queen" arranges these battle royales and whoever wins, gets her wish granted by the Queen. Desperate to return to the human world and see the person she whom she loves once again, Kurumi decides to go all out in the battle. Anything ahead of this will count as spoilers since it explores Kurumi's past and Queen's true identity. The plot is kinda mediocre, but definitely not bad.
**MAJOR SPOILER**: We know clones generally can't summon angels. But in this movie in one of the climax fight sequence Kurumi manages to summon Zaphkiel, her iconic time manipulating angel, the reason was later explained by Queen.
Characters: 8/10
While Kurumi is as badass as usual, I have to say I liked the original Kurumi of Date A Live a bit more. Why? Because back in the human world she had her own reign. The typical dream woman for masochists and idol for sadists, the eerie and mysterious version which used to send shivers through every other characters' spines. Here in the new world, she's lost and therefore loses her casual attitude which she upheld before and becomes extra cautious of other characters. But if we think about it then I don't think any other character would manage to look this cool after finding himself/herself in a completely new world. She completely had everything under control like she always did. Besides Kurumi,we get to see new characters but none of their goals or history was explored other than Queen's.
Artwork and animation: 9/10
Brilliant, the landscape of the alternate dimension was beautifully made. The animation might even be better than Date A Live III. Coming to the artwork, it's good on its own but,BUT...I definitely prefer the old style,it just goes more with characters like Kurumi. Here they made her prettier and she looks a lot younger. Though it's not a problem since the original Kurumi mentioned before that this was a younger version of herself.
Sound: 8.5/10
The opening track, INFERMATA, has become one of my favourites. Gou Sakabe has done an excellent job on it. The music truly deserves appreciation.
Enjoyment: 9/10
The most personal part of any review. The sheer presence of Kurumi made it 8/10 for me, +1 for rest of it.

This is my first review, will try my best not to include any spoilers. Pardon me if there are many mistakes on my part from the viewer's POV.
Story: 8/10
The story won't feel very original or unique to people who have already watched a lot of romance animes. But for people like me who love cute regular school love stories to pass their free time will definitely like this. For fans of Ao Haru Ride, Tsurezure Children or Horimiya this one is definitely recommended.
The story consists of regular high school students
...
each with their own love interests. The story proceeds with each of them struggling on confessing their love. There's nothing very special to it,as I said before... peaceful, innocent high school romance.
Art: 8.5/10
I personally really liked the artwork. It's definitely better than the average. The character designs are honestly eye-catching.
Characters: 8.5/10
All the characters are really cute, I personally loved Akari Hayasaka. Natsuki Enomoto might remind you of Kyuoko Hori from Horimiya. The absence of poor characters somewhat made it up for the lack of originality of the plot,at least for me.
Sound: 9/10
Probably one of the best aspect of this movie. Perfect songs in the perfect sequences. The music is really great.
Enjoyment: 9/10
I guess this one is entirely personal. Not a big fan of live action romance but since I entered anime I realised I'm a sucker for 2d rom-coms,even if they are too simple.
Overall: 8.5/10
| These are my personal opinions,I hope other users on the platform choose to respect each other's taste. Hopefully I didn't hurt anyone's sentiments. Arigato. |
