-Mature stories with a similar sense of humor. -Both use animals (or fantasy/folklore animals in Uchouten Kazoku's case) to tell a very human story. -Both focus a lot on the characters' connections and relationships to one another. -Each character is unique and interesting -Both begin by letting the viewer in on individual characters' stories and problems, then slowly building on each other to something bigger and interconnected. -Insane, fantastical situations that are somehow made to feel so realistic and grounded. -Both feel very optimistic in the end and have satisfying conclusions that wrap up the series nicely. -Both are hidden gems of anime. -Definitely not for everyone, but if you liked one, you'll probably like the other.

There is a group of guys who are forced to wear very "girly" outfits and say embarrassing things that you wouldn't expect to come out of a boy's mouth. Although they protest at first, the boys are quick to accept their situations and act the part accordingly. Both shows are very funny and weird, but you can't help but love them.

A girl with a supernatural problem that causes her to lose all of her friends transfers into a new school. A boy who is a bit of an idiot decides to make friends with her. The girl feels she is a burden and denies him at first, but eventually warms up to the idea. More friends join later on. Both are heart-warming stories with cute art styles and cute relationships between the characters. On the other hand, these slice-of-life/comedies also add quite a bit of drama and sadness that can move you to tears. Both are basically about a lonely girl who gains a happy life with friends because of one cheerful boy.

Wonderfully done shows about a boy (2 boys in ZnT) who is a terrorist and has mysterious motives (in HnE the boy doesn't know his motive though). He accidentally meets a regular girl who stays with him. Also, Akira and Twelve are a lot alike. The MCs do terrorist things, but don't seem like they want to hurt anyone. The characters have numbers for names. Other "number" character(s) come to mess up the MCs plans.

People become monsters who eat people and normal people want to kill the monsters. However, both sides have logical reasons for their actions, and neither can be said to be the "good" side or the "bad" side. You're not really sure who is the monster after seeing both perspectives.

The plot and setting in these series are nothing alike but they both give you the same feeling. Both series start off with a bang and are super addicting. Both have moments that make you laugh until you can't breath, moments that make you go WTF? and moments that bring you to the brink of tears. Both shows make it look like they'll be ridiculous at first, but in reality they have deep meanings hidden away. If I had to describe these shows in one word it would be: FUN
