I watched this anime back in 2023 when it first came out, and Buddy daddies coming out around the high of Spy x Family definitely had me (and I'm sure a lot of other people) skeptical and prepared to see any repetitive plots or character tropes to eye roll at. But surprisingly, the anime was really good and introduces characters with unique personalities, backstories, character dynamics and an overall plot that deals with completely different themes than its popular counterpart.
If anything, this anime really just made me realize how much I actually enjoy the whole "Killer parents and found families" trope,

Compared to the anime, the manga was surprisingly more interesting and provided more depth and roundness to the characters, giving each of them their own storyline and conflicts to handle.
Like some of the characters look like they're based off stereotypes, but they act almost in a completely different way or have other tropes applied to them (Shikatani seeming like the serious type; nerd even but is pretty much a tsundere, or even the mom of the group with how much he cares about everyones wellbeing). And then you have the main protagonist, Toono, whos the straight man of the group (hah) and gets roped into ... |
