Behold, one of the most hit-or-miss anime to exist.
You will either have amazing fun with its nonsense or go on a rant about how it's the most embarrassing piece of trash you have ever seen. But the thing is, it's this way by design. It's the art of "so bad it's good."
On the surface, there is a decent plot and interesting world building, but in-between the ok storytelling, you are subjected to the most nonsensical, meaningless scenes that would outright offend any anime critic. Whether it's how MC comes into the world, animation choices, repeated scenes, misplaced amazing animation effort, inconsistencies, character interactions, and voice
...
acting, you will be so overwhelmed with what you just witnessed that you can only think of one word to describe it: "Why?"
Time and again the story pushes good animation and interesting narrative to gain your trust, then catch you off guard with such goofy nonsense, only to repeat the cycle throughout the entire season. The ecchi will come out of nowhere and in full force. You will be left second guessing yourself constantly if you not only closed but locked your door, because there is no mercy here, and everybody who walks in will misunderstand. This anime is designed at its core to mess with viewers.
To give a metaphor, the studio built a high performing bullet train with cool art on the side, only to intentionally derail it off a ramp and explode mid-air into a cloud of confetti and blue smoke because--suprise--it's a boy, while everyone below remains horrified at the destruction and how many people might've been inside, moments before another train comes in and explodes into glitter and pink smoke this time. Didn't like that one either? Well screw you, we got busses too.
The studio has shown that it could make amazing animation all the way through, but where's the fun in that? "There is nothing more memorable than regret." --someone who got a promotion, probably.
This is absolutely an anime to watch with your friend and react to, but you also have to let yourself be taken in by the absurdity and laugh it off instead of being critical of the bad.
It truly is a godless world, not the anime, this one, because KamiKatsu exists.

At first, this anime doesn't seem too different from a generic reverse isekai. But rather than indulging in standard power fantasy tropes against forgetable villains, this anime takes a slightly different approach.
Our MC, while previously all-powerful, is now severely nerfed due to the significant lack of mana in this world, but despite that he remains more powerful than the average person when he does use it. What's important isn't how well he can win fights, it's under what circumstances he can use his powers and for what reasons he decides to. How he gets into and resolves conflicts gives insight into what the MC is
...
truly like on the inside, different from your first impression and leaving you curious about the kind of life he led.
If you prefer an anime that has some clear goal and plot direction, then you might be put off by this. Where this anime truly shines is in its world building and execution.
At first this appears to be a boring modern world, but as time goes on, it's revealed that there are many powerful and influential figures that linger in the shadows. They really drive home the point what power they hold, and every single one is an intense encounter to be remembered. You don't merely see these encounters, you feel them in the most intense, chilling way the anime industry has to offer, tailored in kind to each one's character. But that's not all, they aren't all on the same side. The ever present chance of one intervening for their own reason and flip the encounter upside-down adds a layer of suspense that is rarely done right in anime. The interwound nature of this makes the world feel truly real with its own weight and ecosystem.
You can think of it as this world's ecosystem of mysterious powers becoming upset by the appearance of the MC and his otherworldly powers, and we get to see and feel the mysteries of this formerly boring world unravel itself with him at the center, as well as the mysteries of MC's previous world being revealed over time. The world begins to feel heavier and heavier.
Perhaps MC isn't so OP after all, and perhaps there is more of a connection between the two worlds than simply his resurrection.
If there's one gripe, though, it's that often times the comic relief bits are done at inopportune times that disrupt the intense mood of the scene.
I can't stress enough that this story is one in which you experience and feel as mysteries are unraveled and anyone at any moment could fall prey to the world around them, not one that prides itself on a dramatic or cunning plot nor a show-off power-fantasy. In this regard, it is truly a master of its craft.

Behold, THE thigh man anime!
This is a hero fantasy gag comedy with a great balance of seriousness, comedy, and ecchi, where our good-for-nothing MC resolves conflicts in ridiculous ways for ridiculous reasons while staying true to his character and the story keeping a consistent power scaling. Nothing truly feels out-of-place or a nonsensical "asspull" for progression or fanservice; everything is thought out and makes sense despite the ridiculousness.
As someone who has read all of the manga, this adaptation gives me mixed feelings, though mostly disappointment but not as bad as I was prepared for. I was surprised at how well some of it was done,
...
such as the art, facial expressions, and the opening. However, the most glaring issue that brings its quality down considerably is the terribly fast pacing.
The pacing is so fast that a lot of content (mostly gags or context) is cut, many events immediately transition which easily ruins the intensity or humor, and some fights are left very lacking. A lot of the charm of Yuusha ga Shinda! was the set of running gags that evolve beautifully as the story progresses, but much of this is cut due to the pacing. So what would normally be a perfect balance of seriouesness, comedy, and ecchi, the seriousness is slightly toned down, the comedy got beaten with a sledgehammer, and the ecchi practically stayed the same. It's still a great balance, but far from perfect.
While the anime is a disappointing adaptation of a masterpiece, it still holds up in many ways and manages an 8/10 from me. If the premise interests you but you're considering dropping it, then give the manga a chance.
It doesn't matter if the hero is dead; as long as beautiful thighs exist, evil will never win.
