It's also about gangsters with powers and a pretty good story, interesting and different powers and great characters although it focusses more on mysteries and situations rather then how to defeat the enemy the shows are still pretty similar and uses the "Villain of the week" trope.

Both action shows feature burly, manly men fighing against equally buff villains. Both also are quite cheesy (in a good way) and have a penchant for overdramatizing, though Jojo is fairly stylish as well. While I liked Jojo more than Hokuto no Ken I think fans of one will definitely like the other.

While these two shows have many things in common when it comes to tone (though Wixoss is quite the bit darker) and setting, with a big modern city and dark magical elements, the main reason for this recommendation is the duality of Izaya (Durarara) and Satomi (Wixoss). Both characters serve as driving forces from behind the shadows in their shows, and have similar motivations and personalities. I think that, if you like one show specifically for that elemenent, you'll definitely like the other.

Ergo Proxy and Boogiepop Phantom most noticably have their atmosphere in common. While it isn't the same, Ergo is told in mute, airbrushed and dim, cold colours, while Boogiepop is dominently sepia-toned and 'glowy', yet dark and bleak. Also, the two have intelligent plots and require time, patience and attention to detail if a viewer is going to get the most out of either of

Both of the animes involve someone who will go to extreme lengths to protect their love... both main characters also have an insane side, if you enjoy the horror psychological genres then you'll like both. They also can be a bit disturbing at times so only watch if you are comfortable with that.

At first glance these 2 shows aren't all that similar but my gut tells me otherwise so bare with me. Children suddenly find themselves working to keep the people they love safe. The children in both shows have access to special powers. Mecha in Bokurano, telekinesis in From the New World. The atmosphere and the tone of both shows are very similar along with a dark feeling of doom that keeps you watching to see what will happen next. So yeah it might just be me that feels these 2 are similar but either way try one if you liked the other.

Both Now and Then, Here and There and From the New World share a similar concept: the world is not as it seems, and there is indeed a dark side to life. It is in this underlying dark side that these anime both find their idealistic heroes struggling to make a better place for the future of all and it is this tone and attitude that make these two shows a good fit for each other.

From the New World and Sunday Without God both have a similar feel to them. Although the settings are quite different from each other, they are both interesting worlds that have their respective problems. They both have simultaneous utopian/dystopian elements; they are visually lovely and peaceful, and you could imagine yourself almost being happy there even though you know things really aren't as they should be. In fact, in some ways things are quite horrible, but that dark side is not presented in the typical way. Rather, the real drive is the situations of the characters and how they deal with it. It gives a down-to-earth feel to a fantastical world. If you enjoy these aspects of Sunday Without God, you should definitely give From the New World a try.

Both anime have a dark atmosphere and great soundtracks. Main characters are smart and they had some hardships in life, they both lost someone they loved and now are trying to solve their case. And in all that we have some higher powers who control police and government. Some conspiracy theories too. And same voice actors.

Elfen Lied

Shinsekai yori

From the New World, known as "Shin Sekai Yori" in japanese, has many similar themes as Elfen Lied. It is more refined that Elfen Lied and lacks the nudity and excessive violence. However this means it also lacks the raw, powerful emotional impact of Elfen Lied. The story moves at slower pace than Elfen Lied. From the New World is based on a novel so the slower story seems appropriate. The dominant theme of From the New World is the value of humanity and even what it means to be human. It examines the practical and realistic consequences of people having special powers and how they might be used for "evil" purposes. In particular, it examines what changes to human culture and lifestyle would be neccessary to accomodate such fearsome powers. In some respects, it could be considered Elfen Lied:After Story, assuming Lucy actually took over the world. If you liked Eflen Lied because of the ambiguous morality at play, then you will defenitely enjoy From the New World. From the New World also has some tragic elements to the storyline. Instead of the intense, immediate tragedy of Elfen Lied, its more of a slow, enevitable tragedy. The story has no worthy equivalent to Lucy, but instead focuses on multiple characters and their interactions. It also lacks the revenge/hatred motive seen from Elfen Lied. If you had to pick one reason to watch this, it would be the judgement of traditional morality present in both series. They will both leave you wondering if humans are ever the good guys...

Aside from both being horror animes, the main thing that links these two together are the settings. Both From the New World and Higurashi take place in japanese rural landscapes, with the main characters living in small towns where it seems like the ones in charge are maintaining some sort of conspiracy. Other than that, they are quite disimilar. However, the eerie feeling in both means that if you like one you shouldn't miss on checking out the other.

Harmony
add

Two of my all-time favorites. Both of these take place in a dystopian society where the masses fail to either notice or care about how completely they are controlled. Our main characters see through their utopias and recognize truths that eventually come to undermine the systems that the societies are built on. Both are serious, dark, unpredictable, and try to tell a more intellectual story to communicate strong themes about the future that we might be facing in our own world. If you’re a fan of one, give the other a try (especially Harmony because it needs some well-deserved love). Though Harmony almost certainly drew inspiration from Psycho Pass, it’s still extremely unique and original

Both "3X3 Eyes" and "From the New World" deal with human identity and with the relationships between humans and "the supernatural". The female leads from both shows struggle with psychological afflictions caused by magic.

Both of them introduce us in a new world, or the race to make it one, with a group of differents children who are discovering themselves but with the same long distance goal: to connect people, to stop war, to prevent violence. Kiznaiver is more drastic at the beginning, while Shin Sekai Yori is quite at ease in the introduction. Both of them have a unique art and design. But if you like the dark themed, psychological and ideal-making-world, you will enjoy both.

If you liked the latter parts of EVA, you'll enjoy Boogiepop, and vice versa. Both series focus intensely on the psychological problems of their characters. These characters, likewise, are quite similar in the two shows: generally lost and hopeless and often half insane, but they are made understandable and even sympathetic through either their pasts or their struggles. Those who enjoyed Boogiepop mainly for its mode of storytelling may find some earlier parts of EVA quite dull...

Both BoogiePop Phantom and Narutaru are fairly unique and interesting series. I can't really explain why without ruining one or the other, I will just say that if you liked all the messed up stuff in it, you will definately like the other one. This is a strange recommendation, isn't it? The thing with Monster and Boogiepop Phantom is that both anime deal with people that the protagonists, or even antagonists, meet. Chance encounters can shape a life, choices and fates. Monster is blatant about it, BPP is subtle about it, but the common theme is there.

Graphically, Boogiepop and Higurashi couldn't be further appart from each other; while Boogiepop has a grim world design and color palette, with realistic looking characters, Higurashi is filled cute lolis and bright colors. However, both shows tell stories with plenty of despair, mistery, murders and disappearances. Now, that alone wouldn't make any of these shows a particularly good recommendation for the other... The main link in the style of these shows is the narrative. Both make use of non-linear storytelling and change of character's focus, building the plot slowly, bit by bit of information. Boogiepop is harder to grasp, but Higurashi also takes longer to start making sense. If you've watched Boogiepop and wants to watch Higurashi, be aware it's plot complexity takes some time to be fully realised, if you've watched Higurashi and pland to watch Boogiepop, be aware that Boogiepop don't have (initial) scenes with cheerful scenarious and characters.

Both anime tell a stoy in a non-liniar fashion. The stories skip back and forth through time, and nothing really makes sense until near the end.
