This show came and made itself different from other Love Live iteration. Atleast for the first season, Love Live! Superstar!! delivered an idol anime where its not just "cute girls doing cute things".
The expectation for these type of shows are "we watch it, laugh, forget about it". The show is not about that at all, it delivers on character development where on this type of show, its usually just a one-time thing. That's what differs this season from the rest of the Love Live! iterations. The show managed to keep viewer wondering about something in the first half of the season.
In all the previous Love
...
Live! iterations, there has always been a premise (Nijigaku aside) for the main character's school closing down. I'd say the show managed to stray from that pattern, where the show didn't present itself with a premise of school closing down, but actually with a brand new school being built. The different premise shows a great trajectory for the show, atleast for the first half.
Unfortunately for the show, many a minor (plot point?) managed to changed my mind on the almost-perfect idol anime. For the first half of the season, the show delivered on its premise, but an idol anime's still an idol anime.
The first season of Love Live! Superstar!! may have its premise-strayed moments, but the show still delivered on the story, drama, and slice of life genres. This show (this season) definitely deserves a watch from those may not have liked idol anime for the "cute girls doing cute things".
