Although the stories and even tones of the two animes are completely different, they have a coule things in common; for one, they are both extremely dramatic and sad. Both also rely quite a lot on secrets and a moderate amount on betrayal and regret. The style of art in both is also not extremely cute, but definitely pretty. If you liked one, you will probably like the other.

Both are well made shows involving mass death and killing. The two also both involve a female lead who is nice, but seems a little too willing to kill people when necessary. It also involves a death of many main and supporting characters, as well as each of those characters killing each other. The relationship between the two main characters is similar, where the boy likes the girl and knows she's misunderstood, and she likes him, but there's a hint of distrust.
