Planet With = Bokurano Light Both are mecha series with a strong focus on adolescent character development and intentional theme exploration like, the importance of looking at things from new and different perspectives, the power of empathy AND sympathy, and recovering from past tragedy. Bokurano is significantly darker, and would not be an appropriate show to show someone under the age of 14, while Planet With takes a much more child/family friendly approach to its themes, yet both have a similar tone and atmosphere that will probably endear them to anyone who has seen and enjoyed one or the other.

Aside from the similarity in their narratives, where we see lots of religious symbolism strewn throughout a post-apocalyptic world, Evangelion and Lustrous share a love of evocative and atmospheric visual direction, especially in regards to the backgrounds, and they both regularly highlight emotional character notes throughout the series through this type of direction. Phos also shares a lot of similarities with Shinji, including issues with self-worth, depression, loneliness, and resentment. In regards to other characters, both shows feature a large cast of well-developed and generally broken characters who all get explored on some level. Fans of existential entertainment, character studies, and great visual direction should check out both shows.

Both are trapped in a fantasy world/video game rpg settings with a primary focus on parody, satire, and comedy in general. The main character of Ixion Saga accidentally falls on an antagonistic character when arriving in the fantasy world in episode 1 and inadvertently becomes feared as incredibly strong. He bands together with a party of misfit characters who all have irritating or endearing quirks that seem out of place for them. A strong muscly man who loves cute creatures, a transgender man-to-woman who somehow has massive boobs, etc. Also both series feature some wonderfully sloppy art and animation that really adds to the humor. If you like the comedy in one, there is a good chance that you will like the other.

Both are intense coming of age stories about children facing otherwordly enemies that intend to destroy them. As each show goes on, you learn about each child character, as well as who these "enemies" are. Neither show pulls any punches in most regards and both have an unusual art-style that is both inconsistent, and gorgeous, at times. Both are also really good, though Noein's plot is bit messy and convoluted.

Both of these shows have a lot of similarities. The format is similar, the story-telling style is similar, the mood and pacing is pretty much the same. Both stories contain a kind-hearted, yet strong male lead along with a mysterious girl. Both girl characters are yandere. Both contain a good bit of graphic content and a few psychotic characters. And of course, both shows are brilliantly written and ultimately fantastic.

After watching Attack on Titan I went on to watch the EVA rebuilds and it helped me realize how many similarities there are between them. While not a mecha, Attack on Titan has a lot of very similar characteristics(no spoilers, but if you've seen AoT, you'll probably be able to understand what I'm getting at). Eren, Armin and Mikasa are all similar to Rei, Asuka, and Shinji. Though they swap around a few traits here and there. The pacing is quick for both stories, the animation and action is top notch and brutal, and there is a significant mystery aspect to both shows.
