I watched Elfen Lied for the second time recently after almost 10 years when I watched it for the first time. I wanted to watch it again because I had completely forgotten the story and after my rewatch, it is completely understandable why neither the story nor the characters stayed with me over the years.

The is a great example of no matter how beautiful the environment art, character design, and animation are; an anime will only be mediocre if provided a mediocre/bad narrative.
This series started out heart-warming and the premise of the story is an interesting topic. The gorgeous art and ambience also contributed to my tender emotions. Yet, half way through, the anime fell apart with cliché plots, as the result, the characters also fell short and the story ruined. Despite the disappointment in the narrative towards the end of the series, I have grown too attached to the characters and story to give this season a poor review.
Nevertheless, I felt that the art and animation looked a lot better than part 1 of the final season and I did enjoy the watching all the action being animated. It was especially delightful to see Annie and the female titan back. I didn't like the music from this season so much and using old soundtracks seemed a bit out of place. Started off great, but did not follow through well and became Sailor Moon mixed with Inuyasha trying to be like Berserk.
The story follows a generic storytelling formula with an abrupt introduction of the MC's goals via her backstory. Claymore is beautiful in terms of art and animation. The story started off slow, but took off abruptly, engaging me all the way to the end. I recommend keep watching even if you feel like the first few episodes are somewhat generic. Overall, the story is average and follows a standard narrative formula, but the great animation, soundtrack, and attractive characters make up for it in terms of enjoyment.
