This mange is a bit of a brutal and relentless read, and most of the characters are dumb (for good reason, as they are young), which makes them a bit less likeable. What saves this manga is that characters making dumb decisions has actual consequences, which makes the fantasy world feel a lot more real. The themes of saving or destroying a soul are obviously deeply spiritual in nature, and gives a slight twist to the interaction with the nature of death, both for the dead and for the living. Making an account just to write about this manga.
This manga has a narrative structure unlike any other I can recall, in that it will often show very brief flashbacks at the beginning of chapters, and sometimes a page showing other things going on in the story at the end. It builds the idea that important things to the plot are happening everywhere at the same time and at high speed, which adds to the richness of the world. The depth is also aided by the cast of characters, nations,a nd organizations that collaborate and collide in the rapidly-developing story they have all been thrust into. ... |
