Oh lord... Where do I even begin? In all my 8 years of anime consumption, this has to be one of the most poorly written rom-coms I've ever come across - and trust me when I say that it's not worth your time, unless you're looking for something outrageous to fill your Friday night.
The story consists of 4 main characters, who all share a similar love for the MMO 'Legendary Ages'. After being friends for around a year, they finally decide to meet. This is when they find out they all go to the same school. Shocking, am I right? All characters are from different
...
social backgrounds, so the circumstances of this group even continuing to meet regularly is very unrealistic. What makes things worse is that the protagonist, Nishimura, is the only male in the entire group. So, as expected, all the other members happen to be attractive schoolgirls, who are also willing to be in a 'NET Club' with a guy they barely know in person, setting up your classical harem start-point. However, the story never actually goes with that idea. Instead, immediately one of the girls is all over Nishimura. She also happens to not be able to understand the difference between the game and reality - meaning she views the story's protagonist as her HUSBAND the entire series. You're probably wondering, why is this such a big deal? It's a romantic comedy, after all. Well you see the main plot point of this series has been trying to get Ako, the ditsy deredere, to realise that Nishimura is not her husband in real life and only in the game. Which to be honest, I'm not even certain this is ever accomplished - at some point, I just started tuning this dumpster fire out.
When it comes to the other characters, there's not much I can say. The trope of a harem being apart of the storyline was never executed, so these 2 other female characters were simply around to be the bud of the jokes or to egg on the protagonist with his toxic relationship. Not once did I ever learn something remotely interesting about either girls, as they both had very stereotypical backgrounds that never involved any kind of character development. They are easily replaceable and unmemorable characters - which is factual considering I don't remember either of their names and don't exactly care about knowing them.
If I had to find one good thing about this anime, I would say it's either the soundtrack or the animation at points. I found the outro to be rather catchy and I occasionally let it play all the way through before continuing to another episode - it's probably the only apart of this anime I'd actually recommend to you. I would recommend the opening, but it's called 'Twinkle Wink' - so stay as far away as possible from that. The animation overall was pretty decent, it was very beautiful and aesthetically pleasing, matching the general vibe the anime gave off. However, at points it looked rather sloppy? Sometimes the characters would look too small and have too big heads - or the choice in shots of the characters would be appauling. An example of this would be that on the beach episode (yes, there is a beach episode), where the scene would randomly cut to extreme close-ups of their crotches. Whoever decided this was a good idea has a creepy outlook on what expression is. These are HIGH SCHOOL KIDS, please stop sexuallising them.
Some say that this anime is forgettable after a few weeks, some say otherwise. I'm a firm believer that it is forgettable and meaningless, however the random sexual shots will forever haunt my nightmares.
