Netflix is normally the joke of the anime community when it comes to their output but they have knocked it out of the park here! I haven't been this surprised by a anime release in quite a while.

If you are not a fan of the game I wouldn't say you would be lost. There are locations and characters from the game present but nothing that would by crucial for following the story. For me I love the cyber/steampunk world's and like many I was let down by the games release. I went back to it in next gen and enjoyed the game, but always ... felt it never hit it's potential. I suppose the hype train can be blamed for that too.

When this anime came along I was a tad surprised and wondered why it was even made but I thought I'd give it a go anyway. For me it was a throw back to the gritty and gory anime of the 80s and 90s and I loved every second of it.

My favourite anime is ghost in the shell and this show reminded me of it a lot the nod towards the opening seen of the ghost in the shell movie give me such a smile all in all there is little I a fault from this anime. A great story told in a bit size 10 episodes, well worth the investment. Fan of the game or not it's worth your time

Neon genesis is one one those this you will either hate or love. One of the first more mature anime i watched when I started to love anime it really was a baptism of fire. A show that Added to my depression at the time but yet I still loved it. With the end of being the perfect send off for me.

The rebuild movies first cam out when i was just finishing school and after just finishing the last one and now in my 30s it feels like the end of a era. When the rebuild movie first came out I thought it was ... going to be a retelling of the same story just with updated animation. The third in the series left me confused and on first viewing I have to admit I didn't really think much of it. Upon rewatching the original series and end of I went back into the rebuild series with a different outlook and accepting that it can be different and enjoyable and the original doesn't need to be wrapped in wool and protected.

With Thrice I came out of it with even more appreciation for the whole of neon genesis and the rebuild series while it may not be as dark and depressing as the original I feel like it has matured and grown up very much like myself from when this whole rebuild series started.

Thank you very much Hideaki Anno this franchise has impacted my life and it will always stay with me and a series I will continue to revisit. I'd say to anyone to experience neon genesis in every possible way. Experience its many ending's even the controversial original ending. Make of it what you want to make of it not what others say is good.

For me this ending of rebuild is yet another perfect way to end the neon genesis story and the OG and rebuild for me go hand in hand as a flat out 10/10

The 7 year journey comes to a end. SPOILERS AHEAD!

Well here we are. 7 years ago I went into this show expecting just another fun of the mill high school romcom, little did I know what I was in for. This has to be one of the best anime I've ever seen for character development and I really came to care about them. Something that has become harder for me to do when watching anime. After 2 amazing seasons I was beginning to think a season 3 wouldn't happen as the years went by.

Getting a third season and a definitive ending to this show ... is one of the few highlights for me in a very tough year. In saying that I honestly think this is the weakest of the 3 seasons. Not to say it's bad I just think the other 2 set the bar unbelievably high. I know the main theme of this season was about the group potentially breaking apart and moving on in diffirent directions to avoid anyone getting upset but I couldn't help but want to see everyone together much more in this series than we got to see. Especially hachiman and yukino. The awkward confession had me near jumping off the seat with excitement and then finding the last episode a tad underwhelming. . . I wanted to see a kiss damn it haha. But it still had the epic I love you moment which was a longggg time coming.


I really enjoyed The hachiman and Yui episodes and felt that it did a good job of bring closure to their potential relationship. . . . Until the last episode where it feels like much of Yui's character was reset back to square one. The side cast except for Iroha felt very throw away in this season which was a tad disappointing and it's a shame we couldn't have had a 24ep run to give them some more arcs and even see Hachuman's and Yukino's relationship develop.

All in all while it just doesn't live up to the last 2 season's for me it comes very close and gives us a actual ending that isn't the typical "go read the manga" ending. Overall 9/10 but as the series as a whole it's a 10/10

This anime blew me away when I first seen it and since then it has became my second favourite anime ever. One that now the full story is done ill be rewatching very soon.

The Wind rises is a bitter sweat story based on the life of Jiro Horikoshi who was a aircraft
designer in the early to mid 2oth century.

Directed by none other that Hayao Miyazaki as his "final film" up until the future release of his new movie How do you live?

You can certainly feel all those years of Miyazaki's amazing work in this but there in i find also lies this movies biggest problem, The pacing it pretty much covers Jiro's life from being a child until the end of ww2, A colossal amount to try and fit into 2 hours and ... it shows. Luckily I am quite interested in history and was able to follow the time skips and important events but some one who isn't familiar with the time period might get lost quickly. Some areas also feel a lot more rushed than others specifically the whole marriage proposal it was so fast it made me laugh a little. That would be my biggest issue with the movie.

The animation once again is incredible probably the best for me since spirited away or howls moving castle it looks modern but some how classic at the same time and it suits the early 20th century Japan amazingly well. The dream scenes also look incredible. The story as stated is a bit rushed but i think the movie does a good job in establishing its characters well and the time period. I quite liked the scene when they went to Germany and found the Germans unwilling to share tech with them because they were Japanese. Very true to the time period as many western nations didn't view Japan as equals.

Over all its a 8/10 for me and what made it fall just short was the pacing which in turn made the ending not as emotional as it should have been. Still well worth the watch though

Perhaps I should have watched the orginal before this.

The neon genesis quotes were what I enjoyed most about this show and reminded me that I could have been watching that instead. I'm not a big Mecca fan but thought I'd try one again after many years and I picked this one. You can tell where they took inspiration from neon genesis for certain scenes and that's about the hight of it. There is very little explanation of the world gridman and co come from and why they are fighting the. . . Aliens? Some of the fight scenes are great and that is ... where the show shines most. Story, characters and everything else is very bog standard and not very memorable. It got a bit more interesting towards the end but not enough to make it a good show.

Watch neon genesis instead or code geass of you want decent Mecca and good characters

I don't know why but I just couldn't get into this movie. It had all the ingredients to get me invested but It just didn't happen.

The characters over all i found were forgettable and the story seems to jump from middle to end rather quickly. The one thing i really did enjoy though as always with ghibli was the art and animation, even in a mostly real setting they some how still make the worlds feel magic ad full of life. The ending shot overlooking Tokyo was amazing and I could look at that all day.

Perhaps this deserves a second viewing but I ... can't see that happening any time soon as i just fell away around the middle point after a good start. Over all a 6/10 for me

Is this the coming of age for Netflix's anime?

Netflix has been rather notorious for its lack of interest and effort in it's anime section for years now attaching its name to some real bottom of the barrel stuff and having a very limited selection depending on region, but recently it seems like they are starting to take notice and give a damn about its anime and make an effort to secure better titles and for longer periods.

When I this come up on the soon to air list i had no idea what to make of it and seeing that "Netflix" film tag sent ... a shiver down my spine but the trailer and animation in it did enough to draw me in to watch it and I am glad I did.

We join Miyo Sasaki who has a major crush on a boy in her class called
Kento Hinode and is always trying to get his attention much her disappointment he doesn't seem interested at all gaining the ability to turn into a cat Miyo takes full advantage of this and uses the ability to become close to Kento and learn more about him.

Starting out early in the movie i felt Miyo was so obsessed with Kento that it came across as creepy but being that young and experiencing your first love had us all on her level one way or another. Perhaps not just to as much an extreme as Kento's Total rejection of her love letter didn't seem to much convince her that it was a lost cause. Not for long anyway. Certainly not a deal breaker or enough to put me off watching the rest of the movie.

I liked how both Miyo and Kento had their own problems with family and friends outside of just dealing and being with each other constantly, this helped them feel a lot more relatable and likeable.

While the plot and charters are nothing mild blowing or life changing this movie knows what it wants to be and does a solid job of doing it. I think there is a lot of inspiration from spirited away in this movie and it shows in some plot elements and the cat world but i wouldn't call it ripping off more of a nice tribute.

Where this movies shines the most is the animation it looks fantastic through out and it really made the movie that much more enjoyable some of the towns back rounds were fantastic looking.

Overall its not going to change your life and blow your mind but for all the netflix anime i've seen this one is the best and worth the watch if you want somthing that looks great and is pretty simple to follow and enjoy. More of this in future please netflix!

The premise of this story is fantastic. Not very often we get a single parent set anime and i can't help but feel the anime has not used it to its full potential. I have not read the manga so perhaps the manga does but from some one going in pretty much blind only knowing the set up I can't help but feel there was more to be offered here

I felt the biggest problem that up until the last episode Gotou felt very one dimensional he never really goes beyond the "i must not let my daughter discover what i work ... as" guy until near the end of the show. I can't say this show had me laughing out loud or feeling sad as certain parts were going for but it certainly does have it's heart warming moments and it does make for a pleasant watch over all.

I wasn't keen on the animation style when i first seen it and by the end i wouldn't say i liked or disliked it.

Fantastic opening and closing I very much enjoyed them nothing during the actual show really stood out though

overall it is a relaxing show to watch and some of the interactions between Gotou and Hime are very heart felt and they feel like a father and daughter getting along well. I think a 24ep run would have been a great benefit to this show so we didn't have to well rushed towards the end and could have seen more characters develope but I think the ending was decent enough as stuck the landing well enough

7/10 for me. Worth the watch but just lacking a small bit to make it great

A very solid entry in the Ghibli library.

I am a big fan of post war Japan and there isn't a lot of anime out there that cover the 60's, not that i have seen anyway. Even better to have it set in a sleepy bit of Yokohama. If you go into every Ghibli movie expecting the next spirited away or Howls moving castle you are going to be disappointed most times.

I went into this knowing very little about it and not really expecting a whole lot bar Ghibl's always present charm and i found it in spades here being set in the real ... world early 60's Japan a school girl by the name of Umi befriends a boy called Shun. The 2 soon join forces to try and halt a old school clubhouse building from being demolished in the post war rebuilding of the entire country.

I really enjoyed the first look at the club house when Umi first enters and it really shows the Ghibli charm and style in a very imaginative way. I also found the cast to be likeable and just the right size as not to get lost at who's who and what is happening.

The soundtrack is very catchy and does a great time showing off the time period the scenes around Tokyo also really show the hustle and bustle of a booming city unlike the normal mostly sleepy part of Yokohama they are in.

The animation i found wasn't Ghibli's best for a movie made in 2011 i think it looks worse than some of the earlier movies perhaps that was because of the budget but i am not sure that being said it certainly doesn't look just more of a observation.

The biggest drawback of this movie for me was when Umi and and Shun think they are related but still confess their love for each other anyway. It's weird no matter what way you look at it and when we learn that Shun was actually adopted . . . . Again before being adopted i found it to be very unnecessary and felt it would have been better just to ditch the story of him being adopted by Umi's father only to be immediately given away.

As for the rest of the movie i quite enjoyed the whole thing bar the above paragraph. The club house shows lots of personality and i would have liked to have seen more time spent in it but the sounding world is just as enjoyable.

If you want a film that you can just switch off your brain for and just chill out with and enjoy for 90 mins then this one. It's not going to smash any records or become a cult classic but it is certainly worth the watch and i very much enjoyed it

I had not heard of this movie until i stumbled across it on netflix and i was surprised to learn that it is a Studio Ghibli and at first glance you could be forgiven for not thinking it wasn't Ghibli as it doesn't have that trademark Ghibli animation. Unfortunately it is also missing Ghibli's fantastic story telling and charm.

We follow Taku Morisaki a pretty normal small town highschool guy. Everything is normal until the big town and down right b**ch Rikako Muto transfers to school. She pretty much avoids everyone and does nothing to fit in or hardly speaks to anyone. They ... take a school trip to hawaii where Muto speaks to Taku and asks him for money right away which he very stupidly gives to her along with his friend who is just as stupid.

Later we find out this money is being used to let Muto go to Tokyo to see her father and she wants to drag her new friend along regardless of how her friend feels about it. The friend calls Taku who shows up to try and stop her only to end up taking the friends place and head to Tokyo with a girl he has hardly spoken to. They proceed to have a bad time n the trip and return home and end up fighting which includes them both hitting each other. You can clearly see how this is a blossoming romance. . . . .

Taku seems like a decent guy and why he falls for a selfish girl that treats everyone like trash is a mystery me even going as far as to apply for collage in Tokyo to go and look for her.

For me Muto ruins this movie and its a real shame as it looks very nice for a 1993 release and i was really hoping to find a hidden gem here but it just wasn't to be thankfully it is short so its not a bad watch if you want some decent 90s animation and a story that while has a awful lead isn't bad enough to ruin your day. If you want to watch it to tick off your Ghibli check list then by all means watch it and move on. I just wouldn't watch it again
