I have been curious about this version of Dr. Slump since I watched the first op when I was still a kid. I had already read the manga, and at first I thought the change in character design of a few characters in this version was weird, especially Arale's... Honestly, Arale having dark brown hair instead of her iconic purple hair is the only change that still bugs me a bit in this version. Much later I learned that this version didn't seem to be very popular... But after I started watching it and now that I finished it I can say for sure: this
...
is pure, unadultered Dr. Slump!
• Story - 6/10
Well, Dr. Slump is not well known for its complex plot. It doesn't really have a story. As a gag/comedy anime that is totally character-driven, the series is pretty episodic with a few short arcs here and there. We basically see the characters, mostly Arale and the chosen lucky ones of the episode, getting into weird, funny and WTF situations. If very dumb humor and poop jokes make you laugh, you're gonna enjoy this show! On another note, if you're a Dragon Ball fan, the longest arc in this version happens between episodes 56~59, which is basically an extended version of that Dragon Ball episode where Goku arrives in Penguin Village in the middle of General Blue's arc. I really enjoyed to see Goku interacting with Arale and other Dr. Slump characters for a little longer!
• Characters - 10/10
Dr. Slump shines the most when it comes to its characters. Who doesn't love a robot girl who has absolute no filter, no common sense and no shame!? That's Arale in all her glory. Then we have Senbei Norimaki, the scientist who created Arale. He's a bit of a pervert, but not one of the worst ones; There is Gatchan, the... alien? Angel? That was born from a dinosaur egg and can eat ANYTHING; Then there are Arale's classmates: Akane Kimidori, a tomboy, delinquent girl who in this version has red hair; Taro Soramame, that instead of having a pompadour, in this version has bleached hair (understandable since in the 90s in Japan, a young man with bleached hair was seen as a delinquent); Pisuke Soramame, Taro's younger brother, who is... very short; And, of course, miss Midori, the teacher in Arale's school, and the love of Senbei's life. These characters are the main cast, but as the episodes pass we get to see more regular characters, like a pair of aliens with literal butt-heads; Suppaman, who is a parody of Superman; a delinquent wannabe 5 year old girl; a very unusual Chinese family... It's a very interesting cast.
• Art/Aniamtion - 8/10
It's very 90s! Everything, from animation and art style to remade character designs, is very, very 90s. If you like 90s anime, I don't think you'll dislike anything here. It's not a masterpiece of animation but it was a job well done from a time when Toei still animated most things decently.
• Sound/OST - 5/10
The OST is very forgettable. It does its work but it's nothing remarkable, not something you'd want to listen later, separated from the anime. The only song I really like is the 1st opening theme. 2nd one is alright, but the 3rd (and last) one is very annoying.
• Enjoyment - 6~9/10
It's a very episodic series with focus on multiple characters and situations, inevitably some episodes will be more enjoyable than others. There wasn't any episode that i thought that was bad, but there were a few that I thought that were less funny than usual. It's a fun series overall and it can be a good introduction for someone who's not familiar with Dr. Slump. And if you are familiar with the series, with either the manga or the 80s anime, I'm sure you can also enjoy the 90s version if you accept the changes in character designs!

As a big fan of the original Alice in Wonderland book, I'm often attracted to its multiple adaptations. The vast majority is not all that impressive, to be honest. I expected this one to not be so good as well, especially considering the low score and the negative reviews here in MAL. Boy, was I wrong.
I'm not one to say stupid things like "if you disliked (thing), it's because you didn't understand it," regarding any kind of media, but I really can't avoid thinking that the reason why so many peope disliked Alice in Dreamland was simply because it was very different from what they
...
expected. It is a weird-looking movie, definitely something very different from 99% of anime. It can hardly be called an anime.
But enough introduction, let's go to the review.
• Story - 6/10
The story is about Alice, a girl who loves reading. She is suddenly called back to the Wonderland she had already visited before. However, Wonderland has changed, it was invaded by an entity called Darkness, and the White Rabbit called Alice back so she can become the Queen, defeat Darkness and save Wonderland. It's a very simple plot, but it's enough.
• Art/Animation - 9/10
Here's where this movie shines the brighter. The animation looks weird because while it's said to be stop-motion, the movements were clearly made digitally instead of being actual stop-motion, so it looks kind of off-putting at first. But the art itself is fantastic. The dolls made by Mari Shimizu are simultaneously very beautiful and very creepy. The backgrounds add to the dark atmosphere. Overall, the art is unsettling, and that's what makes it so good.
• Sound/OST - 10/10
The sound is actually my favorite part. The OST made for this movie is very unique, the few songs that have lyrics, that are all connected to the story, fit the scenatio perfectly. The background music also adds to the dark atmosphere, while still being songs that are pleasant to listen. The background sounds and voice acting were also on point. The voice acting gave me the impression of watching a stage play instead of a dubbed movie, and I thought it was fitting since instead of moving drawings we had dolls "acting".
• Characters - 9/10
If you're familiar with Alice in Wonderland (and I assume you are) then you know the characters. Tthey are all here: White Rabbit, Mad Hatter, Cheshire Cat, Humpty-Dumpty, March Hare, Tweedledee and Tweedledum, etc. There's also the new villain, called simply Darkness, and among Alice's "friends" there is a lion that I assume that was borrowed from The Wizard of Oz, and an unicorn that I have no clue where came from. The characters don't really have any development, but considering you're supposed to already know them well, I don't think that was a problem.
• Enjoyment - 9/10
I thoroughly enjoyed this. Out of many Alice in Wonderland adaptations and reinventions, Alice in Dreamland was easily one of the most interesting ones. I think that if you are looking for something unconventional, strange and dark to watch, this movie is a good choice.

Ah, Juuni Taisen, one of the series I enjoyed the most last year. It took me a while to finally write this review, but here it is.
First, I see way too many people complaining that the story was "predictable" because the ending theme shows who was gonna die in order. But honestly, if this is the reason why you're mad at this anime, you totally missed its point. This was obvious from the beginning.
- Story 8/10
This is the original 12 Zodiac Animals story told as a battle royale. The story follows the order of the original myth - The last one to arrive at
...
God's party (or Heavenly Gate, or the Emperor's party, depending on which version you know) is the first one to die; The first one to arrive is the winner.
You see characters representing each one of the animals killing each other until there's only one left - A typical battle royale, so if you're in the mood for some free violence with fun characters, jump on it!
The story is, as I said, predictable, but that is if you know the right order of the 12 Zodiac Animals. If you don't, you have the option of simply not watching the ending and everything will be a surprise to you. If you want an unpredictable show this is the only tip I can give you.
Obviously nobody would know this when the anime started airing, but now it's a possible option.
- Characters 8/10
This is where this show shines. All characters have their own personalities and all of them have a unique character design, mostly with traits of their respective zodiac animals. It's almost impossible to not find one that you're gonna like, even if it's one that die early. Since some of them do die very early, they have little time to make themselves likeable. The character design is the first thing to call your attention, to make you curious, and them you have at least a basic explanation of the characters' personalities and backstory, this way you can decide your favorite. Sadly the chance of you getting attached to someone who won't last long is very high. Some of them were a lot of wasted potential so it could fit the order of the original myth, and this is the only reason why I don't give them the highest score.
- Sound 9/10
I'm absolutely in love with the opening theme, even a year later, and also love the ending theme a lot. The soundtrack was decent, to be quite honest I don't remember much of it, but I assume it suited the anime pretty well since it didn't leave me with any negative impression.
- Art & Animation 8/10
The art is much better than the manga's, and less cutesy than the novel's, it was well adaptated in the anime. Sorry, Hikaru Nakamura, I love you, but your original design made the characters too cute for this show, Chikashi Kadekaru's style was better.
The animation was good. Not exceptional but decent, at least most of the time. Although I admit the quality dropped in a few later parts. The dark atmosphere suited the story well, the use of CGI was well done. I don't really have many complains here.
- Overall 9/10
I loved this show. Everything about it was interesting to me, the characters were attractive enough for me to want to learn more about them, the battle itself made me curious to know how it would be developed, how the deaths would happen, and I was really curious to know everyone's wishes, specially the winner's. This was a show that held my attention because it kept me interested in what was gonna happen next, even if the ending was predictable, the story was still good enough for me to want to now the means to the end.
Juuni Taisen is a good anime for those who are into action shows, I would definitely recommend it.

Persona 4 The Golden Animation is an anime made for Persona 4 fans. If you haven't played the games or at least watched the previous anime you most probably won't enjoy this anime and I'll explain why.
Story 8/10
It's all about Marie. Marie's story is a subplot in the Golden version of the game. However, as the original game was already animated in Persona 4 The Animation, this one is almost completely focused on Marie, and the main plot of the game becomes the subplot. If you don't like Marie or don't know her and have no interest in her character, this anime isn't for you.
...
If you haven't played the game nor watched the 2011 anime you will be very confused with P4GA, since characters seem to pop up out of nowhere, without any explanation about them, and their backstory is never discussed. This anime also animates events that weren't animated in the previous series, and if you're a fan of the series and its characters you'll certainly have fun watching their shenanigans.
Characters 8/10
Marie, together with Yu, is the star of the show. You get a lot of her, since the whole point of this series is learning about her past. Some say Yu is too different from the games, but I definitely love his personality in the anime adaptations. After seeing Makoto in the Persona 3 movies being a walking corpse devoid of personality, Yu is certainly a breath of fresh air. The other characters are there too, the whole bunch, Yosuke, Kanji, Naoto, Yukiko and Chie, being themselves, it's fun to see them. And we also get to see and learn much more about Adachi, which is one of the highest points of this series imo.
Sound 6/10
Typical Persona 4 OST. It definitely fits the atmosphere and I don't really have any complaints, it's just not one of my favorite OSTs, but that's just personal preference. The OST isn't bad.
Art and Animation 9/10
The animation is definitely much better than it was in the previous anime. The colors are brighter and feel closer to the original game. The art is the same, which means it's great.
Enjoyment 8/10
It's fun. Seeing characters we already know and love in different situations can be very entertaining, and getting to know one more interesting character adds up to fun. I'm fairly certain if you like Persona 4 not only for its plot, but for its characters and atmosphere, you'll be able to enjoy this series.

CLAMP School Detectives is a 90s anime based on a CLAMP manga. And it is, in my opinion, a very entertaining show. I just finished this series and decided to write a review about it - my first review, actually. Here we go.
• Story - 9/10
In the first 20 episodes there isn't a story. We follow the lives of three elementary school boys that happen to be in the Elementary School Council and are also (self-proclaimed) detectives. They - well, mostly their "leader", Nokoru, wants to help all the ladies he sees in trouble. He doesn't want to see any girl crying and is willing
...
to do anything to help her. So the boys get in a lot of situations, some funny ones, some troublesome ones, and some actually dangerous ones. To achieve their goals they do things that real children aren't able to do - that most people aren't able to do, actually. In some episodes they actually have to solve cases, follow clues to find things, and they have the help of other characters, especially two girls from the school's kindergarten. Those two girls are also supposed to be the romantic interests of two of the main boys, but of course, they are all children, so the "love" in this show is represented as the most pure thing in the world, and nothing is sexualized, in case there was someone worried about it.
Later in the series, the "villain" makes his appearance, so we have a more serious atmosphere and an actual plot.
• Art/Animation - 9/10
CLAMP 90s artstyle, it's simply gorgeous. I don't have much to talk about it, I just have a soft spot for oldschool art.
• Sound - 8/10
The soundtrack, all composed by Ali Project, isn't very memorable, but it wasn't bad at all; it did its job perfectly, fitting the show pretty well. The opening song is very catchy, and the endings were both good, especially the second one, but also not very memorable.
The voice actors were great at their roles, I have nothing to complain about them.
• Characters - 10/10
All of them have different personalities and are very likeable. Our protagonists are all children. Three boys at age 11~12; Nokoru Imonoyama, who is the president of the ESC, is a bit irresponsible, but very kind, and really cares for the people he loves, and for the whole CLAMP Academy; Suoh Takamura is the serious type, he really respects Nokoru but also gets really mad at the his lack of responsibility; and Akira Ijyuin, who is also the main character of the manga 20 Mensou ni Onegai!!, is the youngest one, he enjoys cooking and is probably the most childish of the three boys.
The two girls, Nagisa Azuya and Utako Ohkawa, are members of the Kindergarten School Council, they often help or are helped by the main boys.
Some characters from other CLAMP manga series make some appearances, like Kentaro, Takeshi, Eri and Sukiyabashi, from School Defenders Duklyon and Miyuki from Miyuki-chan in Wonderland.
Other characters usually show up in only one or two episodes.
• Enjoyment - 10/10
I loved it. I thought the manga was a good series to pass time, but nothing actually special, but I had a lot of fun watching the anime. It was really cute and amusing. Even though it's mostly episodic, the cases never get boring.
• Overall - 9/10
If you are into light-hearted stories, isn't worried about realism, and enjoy episodic series, I'd suggest you to give CLAMP School Detectives a shot!
