...then you might like Kono Oto Tomare! add

I am pretty sure that Chihayafuru and Kono Oto Tomare! make their own subgenre and you probably won't find anything similar to them at the moment or at least not as good. The strongest aspect of both shows is that they put a great deal of effort into characters development but it's not what makes them unique. Tags say that Chihayafuru is josei while Kono Oto Tomare! is shounen but I guarantee that they are actually no different in this aspect. Okay but which one? Shounen or josei/shoujo? It's not that easy, as I said before I belive that these belong to their own subgenre. Why is that? You can clearly see that they are being made with thought of shounen anime. Sports or music, it doesn't really matter. Rivalry, team and putting everything you can into something that you love is what these shows are about. Yet, even if it sounds like typical sport shounen , both shows have many things that you can see in a shoujo manga/anime. Art, characters archetypes, the way that romance is run and female characters being among main characters (not just to support others or do cute things, they do take a serious part in a sport aspect the same way the male characters do). If you liked one of these anime then you will also like the second one even if one is about sport and the other is about music.
