This is the only anime I gave a rating of 10. One of the best manga to anime adaptations I have ever seen. The pacing is nice and slow, perfect for character development. Plenty of time to go into the back stories of the characters which really helped draw me in. Getting to know the characters feels the same as getting to know someone in real life. You can't make judgments about a certain character as their complex personalities are revealed delicately. and one finds that the characters are far from stereotype. Even the supporting characters will wake the empath in anyone. They ... are the type to move you. Make you fall in love with the characters as they make you laugh, cry, or feel annoyance, frustration, even hate. Yazawa Ai is a genius.

The plot is rich with heart wrenching and heart-tugging moments. Girls, get a box of tissues ready. This is not to say that NANA can only be appreciated by girls. True, there is romance but it explores the psyche of two women in a way that men will still derive some value in watching it because if ever they do decide to sit down and watch this, it will give them a better insight on women. Oh and did I mention this is a mature anime?

I am crossing my fingers for the continuation of the anime. Although I read the manga, I don't want to miss the music. The songs and the seiyuu are excellent, especially coupled with the music...ahh the music. These elements really brought the manga to life.

The animation is excellent and polished, the plot is one of the most intense psychological/philosophical/intellectual I've ever seen. It is original and compelling with its unexpected twists and turns which kept me at the edge of my seat the whole time. The characters are colorful, interesting and prone to make you feel extreme contrasting emotions (For example I would switch between hating Light and cheering for him).

I love a show that still makes me think even after each episode ends. Though I started reading the manga first, I believe this is a strong adaptation (The ending is faithful to the ... manga although they should have included the epilogue and tied up all the other loose ends).

However, what kept me from giving it a perfect 10 would be the pacing and the fact that the second arc is weaker than the first. I wish they could have stretched the second arc a bit more in order to build up the characters of Near and Mello. And I wish Ryuk, the character i was most interested in, showed up more. (He disappears for a large amount of the show as the focus was more on Light and L). It just felt like the show was rushed.

Anyway other than that I have no qualms. It is surely one of my favorites.
