I wanted to check this show out, and for the first episode, despite some lame Kafka shit sometimes, I felt like he was a real adult, trying to do his best, whilst also having genuine flaws that feel like he's an adult. I've been watching Medalist, the anime, and something I love about that show is that it has such nuance and complex ideas with the coach. The coach in Medalist was never able to really achieve his dream, but he's not willing to give up on the main character because he wants her to do well. Kaiju no. 8 started like that, but the
...
main character was that older guy, who still wanted to achieve that dream of his. Unfortunately, he never was talented enough to be that top, and he gave up, until a younger person reignited his desire to try one last time. Episode 1, for the most part, was really gripping, and I really felt for him.
Then he gets turned into a Kaiju. While I'm not opposed to him getting powers, it gives him the ability to live out his dream, how they handle it is kind of lame. He keeps begging other people not to talk about him being a kaiju, and for episode 2 and 3, he just feels like he's more immature compared to the actual kids and young adults who he's fighting alongside. Episode 4 gripped me more, since he was willing to use his kaiju powers to save a talented young person, but man, it feels like the main character, outside of his heroic moments, is dumbed down and made more immature so he doesn't stick out among the kids that he's actually older than. If you replaced his age with a college dropout, I don't think the overall story would have changed, even if the appeal would be different.
But yeah, I can't say I'm a fan of how childish he acts most of the time. I hope that he grows and becomes a better man, but hey, I think that's a compelling story, someone who never grew out of their childhood whereas everyone else did. I just hope that's where the story actually goes.

I'm used to the trap of anime movies made from TV series' not really feeling like movies, and instead feeling like extended TV quality episodes. Surprisingly, that wasn't what this film felt like. It genuinely has a lot of moments that feel beyond what the show has given us direction and animation wise, even if the digital smoke looks eh at times. There's a lot of dutch angles, so this film is bound to turn some heads, literally and figuratively.
I won't spoil anything, but I do feel like this film has compelling drama and keeps the spirit of the TV show alive, whilst having
...
a great new cast that is pretty engaging and fun too. It's a worthwhile movie to watch, but it won't be required until later in the series, with more seasons for this show. Still, worth your time if you like this series and wanted to see a film with similar drama and energy, with it definitively feeling like a film production.

Okay, so I started this show because I loved what the series director has done for Attack on Titan season 4, she was one of my favorite directors on it, and I had seen her other works too, so I was like, "Why don't I check out this show?"
And you know what? It's fun. The characters have a lot of chemistry, the absurdity of every interaction Natsuko has with someone else in the world she's in, as well as her unorthodox methods of solving problems is pretty nice. Though, I will have to say, episode 1-6 are just good.
Episode 1 feels like it kind
...
of rushes through the world, and then episode 2 goes, and then it starts building the world and all the chaos that happens within it. Episode 3-4 are very nice, though 5-6 feel a bit meandering at parts. It's not like the characters are awful, they're still nice, but it feels like they kind of have stayed their welcome with the premise of "This world is horribly dark, but Natsuko is changing the entire show for the better." Not overstayed yet, but I felt like this show could do more.
And then, this episode. It was entirely a flashback episode, and yet felt like it demonstrated an actually interesting backstory for her. She fell in love with a movie all so long ago, and it explores what she meant to other people, but then it goes to the perspective of someone who genuinely wants to see her improve and grow as a director. It's really sweet, even if it's in a flashback episode. The president, probably modeled after Manabu Otsuka, is probably going to be the most flattering depiction of him in a show ever /s. But in all seriousness, considering this is where the Character designer herself said that it's best to start the show from, I'm excited as hell to see where this show goes, and I'd recommend this show for episode 7 alone. The script is nice, the animation is consistent, and the direction is pretty solid for the most part, but then gets to amazing for 7.

Something that I've not genuinely liked about ENGI is that their directional works tend to fall a bit flat overall, and for both Uzaki chan and Our Dating Story, the shows not only look pretty meh, they also don't really hold up. And when they were announced to be the studio adapting this work, I hoped that it wouldn't have the author immediately cancel their publication of Medalist, in the same vein as how Ex Arm had done it.
Instead, as someone who has not read the source material, this is one of the most amazing adaptations for the manga to anime that ENGI has
...
ever done, and lowkey one of the best figure skating anime to be made that I've seen, easily surpassing Yuri on ice. The CG is immaculate, and the figure skating is some of the best that I've seen in a show. And it wraps this in a story that I've heard, and seen, is excellent.
I love the nuance that comes with all these adults. Inori's mother isn't just a stereotypical evil mom who is shutting down the dream of her daughter, she's a parent who wants the best for her, but it comes out of misunderstanding why she wants to do figure skating. So the climax where she sees why she does figure skating, and Inori wins the competition was so satisfying, because her mom understood her and her passions for the first time. It got me crying. So did the "bully character," who resented herself and her actions till that point feeling hurt, and connecting with her coach in a new way. It's rare to see kids and adults both handled with nuance, and I love how it handles all of the characters.
The direction put in place is pretty strong too, which I didn't expect as someone who watched Problem children, which was by the same director. But yeah, overall, wonderful show that I love a lot. Probably my favorite out of this season.

The most generic rom com to rom com, but with a slight twist. I guess that's all that's needed to make it interesting.
Guy who's an otaku, and is "lazy" but actually gets shit done so the girls in his life are attracted to him? Check.
School beauty who hates everyone except the main guy? Check.
Elements of harem in the show? Check.
Now, that isn't necessarily a bad thing, generic shows can still be well written/enjoyable, and the show is pretty enjoyable, with it looking amazing, and being animated rather well for a rom com like this, but honestly, it's the kind of show people have seen before,
...
and if you're tired of the formula, this show won't change your mind.
The element of Alya hiding her feelings in russian is okay, I'm not a native russian speaker, so I have no idea if she's absolutely butchering the russian, but what I can say is that it's not as funny as the show makes it out to be. I enjoy a lot of the other aspects, like how honest the main character is that reminds me of Sakuta from Bunny girl senpai, but he's barely? the focus, and I don't like how they try to make them all complex with this "tragic backstory" that follows a lot of main characters, instead of flushing them out and making their dynamics interesting. The MC at least manages to have somewhat interesting interactions with those around him, and him secretly knowing russian is somewhat interesting, but yeah, I think it's just a standard school rom com with a twist. But, like I said, that's all it needed to make it interesting to me.

If I were to sum up this anime, it is, "Imagine if we saw Cinderella having a happy ending."
This is a gross simplification of this anime, and yet it captures the essence of what this anime is.
Miyo is a girl who's abused, both mentally and physically, by the step sister who looks down at her, along with a step mother who treats her like trash, hence the Cinderella parallels. But we see not only how her mental state is, we also explore that her happiness just doesn't come back immediately. She still is developing from her traumas, she still has nightmares. She's lost everything since
...
her mother died, and her father stopped caring for her when he remarried. And man, by episode 4, I felt so unbelievably happy that, even if she's not fully okay, she's on the path to recovery.
Miyo is an abused young girl who constantly faces issues, so to see her on the path to overcoming her traumas and with episode 6, being able to stand up against the women who abused her all her life, it was immensely satisfying.
So far, my only critique, at least till episode 5, is that the magic system seemed forced into the story, but with episode 6, it feels far more entrenched into the story than I initially thought. So that criticism will go away as time goes on, more than likely.
Anyways, 9/10 anime, would recommend.

Why did people hate the ending of Stone Ocean?
To put this in context, Part 6 was one of the most hated parts of Jojo in the west, and people consistently said how they hated Jolyne and others in this part, or "Araki forgot". For me, to those people who said that, I strongly disagree. In fact, I'd say, if the production was on the level of Part 5, and had more consistency, it would have been a 10/10.
Jolyne, Emporio, Ernes, Anasui, Weather Report, all of them are fantastic in this part, and seeing the ending of it was, as an anime only, just made me
...
see a part of jojo that I hadn't seen before. Sure, there were good moments, but part 6 really felt like it was the peak of the anime. I'll not delve into spoilers, but this is just extremely good in every metric. The bizarreness of Jojo, while still there, still leaves places for sorrowful moments, ones that genuinely hit hard.
I'm not sure exactly how the series will go from here, but at least here, I can see how great Jojo is, and I'm excited to see more as time goes on, when part 7 comes out. This was peak Jojo.

Man, this movie was great.
Now, obviously there's going to be salty AF people who was angry about their waifu not winning, but to be honest, even as a manga reader who once was for one of the losing girls, I was extremely satisfied by the ending, and how it ended all of the girls perfectly, with them all being given ample screen time. They really played around with the pacing, but in a way that made sense, and I actually felt like this is, by far, above the manga.
I thought the pacing for the movie would have felt rushed AF, since they went from
...
12 episodes covering 32 chapters in the first season, to 54 chapters in the second season, to 35 chapters in just the final movie, which, length wise, is the equivalent of less than 6 episodes. However, that wasn't the case. The series composer, the guy who basically makes sure the pacing and dialogue is solidified, managed to not just adapt every major moment of the series, it also managed to do it while adding more content that made the ending from an 8 out of 10 movie to a 9. The humor of it, despite me remembering reading it, also was made really well by the voice actors, bless them all, who delivered on the production incredibly well. The movie itself had meh production values, but that's sort of to be expected. Art direction was solid though, and same with composite, really made up for the stillness of the film overall.
Watching all of those events unfold, I forgot why so many people hated the ending, even if their girl didn't win. It was so satisfying to see the girl who did win finally get Futaro, and seeing the wedding, where this is spoilerless, and having to have Futaro guess between the girls just really made me laugh, even as someone who was decently sad about the girl I was rooting for losing.
Anyways, man, I'm sad that this is the end of the show, and series, but I'm glad it had such a fantastic, satisfying conclusion.

If you are caught up to season 3 part 2, I will probably not be spoiling anything except character names and their personalities.
I've only joined the attack on titan fandkm back in... 2019? Around January of 2019. I watched AOT dubbed, and rushed through the show, to season 3 part 1.
Now, I know, I know. The dubbed for aot isn't that great. But I was a different person back then, and I still think it's a masterpiece, and am watching it subbed now.
Back in 2019, I distinctly remember, when I was talking about Attack with someone who liked season 1, I asked them why
...
did the Armoured and colossal Titan break the walls, when I was still on season 1, and they said it was for fun.
They haven't watched the show in over half a decade. So they have no idea what is happening now.
Renier... He's an amazing character. Someone I used to hate, for killing his people, was someone I now felt bad for. He just wanted to be a hero to humanity. He's the complete opposite of Eren, honestly. Eren wanted revenge. But Renier, he wanted recognition and love. It made me think, in comparison, how much of an easier life Eren had compared to Renier. Renier's father was a deadbeat, who hated Renier, and wanted nothing to do with him. Eren, however, had a loving mother and father, and they loved him up until their deaths.
Gabi... She's a lot like Eren. She's bratty, arrogant, angry, tiring, etc. Just like Eren was. The difference is the circumstances. I believe, if she was Carla's child, and was raised within the walls, she would turn out exactly like Eren.
Falco, he's an amazing character. He knows the truth, unlike Gabi, and knows that Marley fully deserves what came to it. However, at the same time, he is saddened by everything that is happening to everyone, and will do what it takes to keep her alive. He kind of reminds me of Armin. He's a genuinely good person, and luckily for him, his hands haven't been tainted by the blood of war. He wouldn't have people's blood on his hands.
Now, obviously, I can't go into all these characters and say that this is a masterpiece just based on the characters alone. No, everything about this season is masterfully done.
I have seen many complaints about how "badly animated" attack on titan is. Honestly, they should see episode 4 of attack on titan season 1. I've watched season 1... 7 times to try to find the ending? It was clear that Wit was running out of time, and needed a massive overhaul for their blue ray release.
However, while there are certainly tweaks they could make for the blue ray release for attack on titan season 4, Mappa has done way better then I ever thought they would. The rotoscopping was masterfully done, and Udo in episode 2 looked like he was rapping, and it looked amazing. It's not Ufotable good, obviously, but then again, ufotable had over a year to make demon slayer, and most of their other series'. Mappa had 6 months to make 16 episodes. Although their are some questionable usages of cgi at times, my jaw was dropping with episode 6, to the point where I didn't even care. Episode 7 was amazingly animated, and really gets you to feel the horror of attack on titan. Episode 8... Amazingly done. Especially at the end.
Osts and sound design are another strong point for the series, even with the weird ass names. Sorry, Sawano, but stop punching your keyboard for the names of your songs. In all seriousness, the osts are top tier. Episode one, and that scream... I'd never felt more enraged then I did at a fictional character. The music in episode 2... Was soft, comforting, and felt... Almost nostalgic. Episode 3 calls back to the past, and we see the story through new eyes, but with the same songs we saw. Episode 4... Is relaxing, and the amazing music that plays creates a comfortable atmosphere.
One thing I want to mention, is that, somehow, with Mappa, I feel more hungry watching episode 4 of attack on titan season 4, then when I watch the entirety of food wars, which is saying something, since it has literal food within the name. Because there is an atmosphere around the food. Like eating pizza, getting sauce all over your face, laughing, getting ice cream for the first time in your life, etc. It's a very soothing atmosphere. But, by the end of the episode, you could tell, as the ending credits come closer and closer, that peace wasn't permanent, and that's exactly what happened.
Episode 5 was the episode that really detailed what happened with this world, while keeping the three sides to every story that the author of the series, Hajime Isayama, has made clear. There is the Ally's story, the enemy's story, and then, the truth. Propaganda perpetuated by both sides exist to paint the other side as the most evil, but it's usually not that simple. So, when Wily pulled back the curtain, in a metaphorical sense, people are shocked. Eldians and marleyans alike. Which climaxes when 2lives, not 2volt, plays. Honestly, I used to think that YOUSEEBIGGIRL, Renier and Bertholdt's theme, would work better, but then I realized it involved playing over the entire speech, which would take away from the things Wily was saying, and agreed that 2lives was probably the best choice they could have made.
Honestly, this series deserves the praise it gets. Love the series. Don't get why their is 10,000 1 out of 10s, because, in all honesty, this is as close as it gets to a perfect series.
