I was binging a ton of isekais cos I was bored outta my mind. and arifureta was one of those isekais that I genuinely thought had a good plot with tons of potential, but the anime is SHIT! period. This is the opinion of someone who read the Light Novel.
To start off, the anime skipped a ton of plot points and story arcs, which is why the anime is so confusing. for example
1) the Lightnovel starts with Hajime in school and then the entire class gets isekai'ed, the anime studio didn't bother to explain this so they just showed a montage in the opening credits.
2)Hajime
...
was constantly bullied by Hiyama and his friends, and everyone else, even the so-called Hero/warrior of justice Kouki Amonagawa ignores them saying that Hiyama is just giving Hajime a nudge to train harder while Hajime was clearly being physically abused, the reason Hajime was weak is not that his skill sucks, but because his trainer sucked, Captain Meld's Training wasn't meant to include a Synergist. it is like asking Edward Elric to train with idk, Jiraya or someone lol.
3) in the anime, nobody knows who betrayed Hajime, in the LN, everybody knows that it was Hiyama's fireball that blew him off, Hiyama cried crocodile tears and convinced everyone that it was an accident and everyone believed him. the reason he did so was that Hiyama saw Kaori leaving Hajime's room at night with nothing but her nightgown on, and assumes that Kaori had S*x with her. the entire reason they bullied Hajime was that the girl they liked (Kaori) actually had feelings for Hajime.
4)They skipped Hajime's training and experiments in the Abyss. Hajime couldn't do anything at first, then he did experiments like making weapons, this went on for a while and Hajime made his guns, Donner and Shlag (obvious Devil May Cry Reference, as in Dante's guns, Ebony and Ivory), and started training. then he dedicated himself to killing monsters and eating them.
5) now about Shea's clan, the entire beastmen's kingdom is Racist towards Rabbitmen and even exiled them as they were a liability. and the rabbitmen are so weak as even when enslaved, they are simply auctioned as sex slaves as they can't handle any physical work. (fun fact, [spoiler] after hajime's training, the entire Haulia clan becomes Chunnibyou, also they are super strong and can handle torture like a piece of cake, Shea's dad, was insulting his torturer and laughing as he was being brutally tortured. the Haulia became the Psychotic version of the Assasins from the Assasins Creed series, as they are experts in stealth, guerilla tactics, and infiltration)
6) now Tio forced herself onto Hajime to use him, as she wanted revenge against the church of Ehit that declared her clan as apostates. later on, she genuinely starts caring for Hajime and his companions.
7)there was a whole part where people constantly tried to kidnap Shea to sell her, so Hajime had to put a slave collar on her so slave traders would stay away.
8) Kaori didn't simply decide to go with hajime (she's actually the weakest in hajime's party, but later on gets a massive powerup [spoilers], and now her powers rival Yue) Kaori was mortified that hajime would murder someone in cold blood and was thinking that the kindness inside him has died in the abyss and that this hajime wasn't the guy she loved. then she saw Myu and Tio waiting outside the labyrinth (Tio and Myu didn't go inside, that part was altered for the anime) and realized that if hajime was coldhearted, then how come he cared for the harem? at that point, Kaori decides to get close to this new Hajime and the scene in the anime plays out.
9) right after Kaori joins Hajime's party, Kouki challenges him, just like how Spear hero challenged Shield hero for Raphthalia. Kouki being the spoiled irresponsible brat he is believes that Hajime is mind-controlling the entire harem, and says that if he wins, Hajime must stay away from the Harem and offers the girls a chance to join the hero party, saying that he will treat the better than Hajime. the girls obviously get pissed hearing this. Hajime agrees to a duel. When Kouki Charged at Hajime, he instantly transmutes a pit in the ground into which Kouki falls, throws flashbangs and tear gas inside and seals the pit's opening with kouki inside, and asks the hero party to dig him out as he walks away nonchalantly.
10)there is also some other stuff like Yue Ball-busting anyone who dares to profess their love to her.
and this isn't it, tons more stuff and subtle hints for further storylines were also skipped.
As for CGI, well I think Y'all probably know about that. The Music on the other hand was not bad, especially the ending theme which I liked. The characters are boring in the anime because they received no development (in the LN, everyone, including Hajime gets a lot character development) the flashbacks, on the other hand, are just crap and don't have any impact as none of the stuff was explained and the flashbacks themselves are super short.
Overall this anime BUTCHERED the Light Novels and Web Novel by skipping tons of stuff and adding a Buttload of fanservice (Pun intended) (tbh the LN has some fanservice too, but not as much as the anime). I genuinely enjoyed the light novel and think that the anime needs a remake done by some other good studio. I honestly think you will enjoy the LN over the anime. even though the LN wasn't the best in terms of writing, it still did a better job than the anime.
