Dorohedoro is okay but there's a lot it leaves unanswered. It introduces a great amount of very important debatable points such as class-consciousness, ableism, discrimination, systemic oppression, slavery and more but never actually goes around resolving it. It's ultimate answer to a deeply flawed world is that.. nothing changes. And so, in that sense, although that mimics reality, the catastrophe they face and the humanity they introduce even in extremely deplorable characters is ultimately without use. And in that sense, Dorohedoro would've benefited more from being a purely action-comedy that never talked about these issues at all than one that did talk about them and
...
ultimately failed to provide an answer to them.
For the last 10 volumes I was hoping they'd find a way to unite the two worlds but no - the sorcerer's world remains their own, the Hole remains the hole, there's no change, nothing happened, the 23 volumes of Dorohedoro ultimately were just a mystery about Caiman's head and the man in Caiman's mouth.
Feels a bit pointless, tbh. But hey, happens, its a difficult art form.

Note: I hate quantifying a manga scoring in multiple categories - story/characters/pacing etc - because to me that's just min-max type of scrutiny that dilutes the holism of the entire work. So, I'm going to score the entire manga as a whole and nothing else and tell you why I liked the manga.
I'm so sad I finished Seto Utsumi. The way Seto Utsumi has made me feel during the last few days is the sort of feeling you get knowing this was one of the "peaks" you just so happened to have come across.
Seto Utsumi is just incredible. Two boys, one riverside, a few hours
...
to pass the time. That's it. That's the premise. But that's the premise of life too, isn't it? One place, One person, Time to kill, nonsensical talks - That's it. That's Seto Utsumi in its entirety. But it's so captivating, so heartwarming - mainly because every character in this manga is realistic - Seto is supposed to be a funny comic relief who doesn't think too much but he's also incredibly thoughtful and emotionally aware, Utsumi is supposed to be an intelligent know-it-all stoic but is capable of some of the best humour in the series (just remember this word: Gorilla).
The Art is awesome and perfectly captures that unmoving, steady, background neighbourhood vibe.
I'm just sad it had to end. So sad.
Also, it has an ending that is incredibly clever and makes you wanna go back and read it all over again with new information that you now have. It's awesome.
If you haven't read it or are on the fence - don't be. Just read it. It's just two guys, one riverbank, time to kill, and nonsensical realistic talks (not deep, just realistic).
It has the capability of being life-changing.

This is a short and sweet manga. It's not phenomenal in any regard but one - the walls do feel like they're closing fast. And that feeling makes it a really nice manga.
It's sweet, short, and does what it sets out to do best - portray the "mob mentality" of internet in the
...
background and a sweet story of friendship in the background all tied with a bow of cat-mouse police chase.
It begins by putting forward a lot of questions and I'm so happy that all of them get answered in due time. It's short, the manga, but it's not rushed at all. It's adequately paced and very nice.
All characters other than the police are great. The police characters are so lame lol, but then again, doesn't matter because you're not rooting for the police at all. Still, they're so lame its funny.
The art is nice, and grim. I like it.
Read it. 7/10.

Ah f*ck, I finished this manga in half a day, basically I binged it.
This is the greatest manga I've ever read that's also been able to hurt me the most.
I don't know how to properly describe it without spoiling so let me put it this way -
You've read NTR manga right? Where the
...
guy steals someone's girl and stuff - well, what about the guy after the "stealing" is over? What of his life during the day? During the normal hours? During his work hours?
And what of the girl? What of the guy who stole the girl?
In an essence, Boys on the run is an NTR manga from the perspective of an ugly, talentless boring, repulsive, lazy, hopeless 27yo fool. But then be that as it may that he is ugly, talentless, boring, repulsive, lazy, hopeless, antisocial, incapable of being social, too dramatic, too good at finding trouble, too good at trusting the wrong person, too good at finding himself in the wrong spots, too good at being unable to control his own self, too good at f*cking up - what is he to do?
What if there's nothing redeeming about him - what is he to do? Stop living? Can't do that, too p*ssy. But then what to do?
Boys on the Run isn't about boxing - boxing is a side-story, a B-story, a B-line, a background element - What Boys On The Run is truly about are messed up, hopeless, depressed, sad, self-serving, evil, malicious, poor and mostly poverty-stricken characters coming across opportunities in a city filled with rampant sex - being unable to say no to them - and facing the consequences.
But what to do? Stop living? Can't do that.
Make no mistake. Boys on the Run is sad, sorry, depressed, and full of unmet expectations. But that's life too.
When the sun sets and your bruises - whether physical or emotional - hurt - can you do what Tanishi does? Probably. I mean, anyone can run away.. right?
P.s. This was a very heavy manga to read and I think I'm done with reading manga for a while. Take that as you will - if you're in the mood for something really heavy or not.

I mean, it's okay - it's just.. mid? I think the reason you hear Liar's Game so much if you try to find a Kaiji-like manga is because there aren't many out there. But that doesn't mean that all that are there are great.
Liar Game is mid but not in a way bad, it's good mid. Akiyama is not a charming character, Nao is not a charming character, Yokoya is not a charming antagonist, the character open their mouth too wide, the "mystery" isn't compelling, the games are too long/uninteresting, the stakes (same old 100 million yen debt) gets boring having been repeated so
...
many times and the ending is rushed, mid, unsatisfying and just plain boring.
But it's an okay read, Don't know what else to say. You won't regret it, but you won't remember this manga either.

10/10
This is the best manhwa I've ever read. Although, I must mention that that's because it was relatable to me and so it might not be a 10/10 for you. But for those who are interested in running, its a 10/10 no doubt.
For the last 2 months or so I have been following the Couch25K running program. I'm on the second last week now.
When I started I couldn't do 8 sets of 1min-running+2min-walking.
I pushed myself once last year and found myself almost fainting but just yesterday I've finished a 25min run.
And that is exactly the protagonist of this manhwa (who's recently had a breakup)
...
is like at the beginning.
It's a sort of manhwa that doesn't take things like characters, environment or romance very seriously - but it takes running VERY seriously. There's a constant vibe of running, and running lifestyle throughout the manhwa. It's almost like the manhwa is built on the running philosophy of "I just run.". Lives change chapter by chapter and things keep happening but the characters never stop waking up at 8am and going for a run.
Also, I love Baram.

Eh, look, I love Higurashi. It's been on my mind for the past 15yrs or so ever since I first came across it, but I never finished it because at the time it wasn't adapted in entirety but it's finished now. The story is done. And i had a lot of fun reading
...
the entire 8 main arcs. But this one.. this one is my least favourite. I feel bad at rating it a 4 too.
But here's why it's a 4 - It's a 4 because it's not consistent with the work that came before it. It's not realistic. And it urges you to give it too much leniency in the name of "shock value horror". Come the heck on man, how can an orphanage that relies on government grant let one of its kids die - and not just out of negligence but having chicken slowly peck at them until they die (??????), and having another literally clean shit with their mouth - I don't mean the ceramic bowl - I literally mean cleaning it by swallowing it (???????) Ugh. Just shock value. Then it has Takano (who's the star of this Arc) dissect Rika's mother alive (?????) eh. I mean, okay, its not that far fetched for Takano but its no unnecessarily bland shock for the sake of shock.
I don't like this arc, but I've come so far as to read the other 7 so it was only right to get done with it.
Now onto better things.
Anyway, read it, not because it's good but so you can finish this long ass story.

Rena..
It was personal belief that Rena was "Higurashi" (the embodiment of the work, not the cicadas). Every Xbox profile, Every Profile, Every thing I can use Rena's name, I use it. I currently own a scooter. Its a slim and girly looking scooter. Can you guess it's name? It's Rena. And although
...
it took me 10 years to name it with a name that'd fit - Rena fits.
And this manga is Rena. And Rena is Higurashi. So this manga is Higurashi.
There's nothing this manga really does bad tbh, It shows Rena and more Rena is always better, but ultimately, my enjoyment isn't a 10 and was at an 8 because.. it just didn't move me like Arc 7 did, you know? I don't know if it's on me or the manga, but it is what it is.
In any case, Its Rena, read it.

This is, in my opinion, the arc that satisfies the most - IF you've been following all the build up so far (which I assume you have why would you otherwise be reading Arc 7 of a series directly?).
First things first, The arc is LONG (compared to other Higurashi Arcs). It has 6
...
volumes and each builds up upon the other from Page 1. There are no fillers, no club activity arc, no extended "I wanna take you home" scenes. Its purely business and starts hard from the start.
Keiichi, who has so far been energetic but kind of passive? (Even if he's been a main character so far) really acts like a main character this Arc.
The reason I am giving this a 10 (not so surprising for me when it comes to Higurashi) is because there were times I had tears in my eyes. I never have tears in my eyes. Never.
Anyway, Read it.

A light novel about a 30yo NEET that slowly builds his life again by the support of a few NPCs he cannot not care about. I guess ultimately the meaning is that no matter who you are, if you have people who don't judge you - you too can rebuild your life if you just believe in trust.
The manga was great enough for me to pick up the light novel and the light novel didn't disappoint either.
The way its written is ingenious, the entire manga is almost repeated scene by scene in the novel, and the scenes that didn't make it to manga have a
...
good enough animation in your head.
It's a lovely light novel that's short and quick.
Read it.
