This anime is sublime.Featuring a wonderful opening theme that I looked forward to hearing everytime. Top Notch Gory 2000s action (its freaking anime girls with guns).praiseworthy sound design; ie the gun sounds are very visceral and strangely satisfying. Memorable characters gave the straightforward plot a lot of soul. Its short and sweet as it's only 13 episodes.
Overall, this is my kinda comfort anime. The animation is sleek and shiny whilst the world in which the creators have developed feels breathtaking to behold. This anime is a masterpiece in my eyes. If your into campy short 00s anime, then give "gunslinger girl" a go.

DISCLAIMER, THIS IS ONLY MY REVIEW FOR THE 12th VOLUME OF CHAINSAW MAN, I HAVE NOT READ 1-11!
Aaaaah Chainsaw Man. I remember back in the summer of 2021, buying a friend the first volume of it for her birthday. Cool title, but I didn't think much of it. 2022 comes, and a whole anime adaptation of the manga is out'n'streaming. However, that was the year when I was on a huge anime hiatus due to depression, general teenage woe-is-me-ism, and a little bit of things I can't even remember. However, ever since I watched Evangelion back in 2023, i've completely fallen in love with anime
...
all over again! So, after seeing a plethora of funny intenet memes about this black haired anime girl, I was left wondering who was this character? Needless to say, I bought volume 12, read it yesterday, and sing it's praises today.
I will say as someone who's never read volumes 1-11 that 12 is a really good place to jump right into the series as it's introducing a new protagonist, in Asa Mitaka (Black Hair Anime Girl), who continues to develop through chapters 13, 14, and presumably 15 when it releases in the states.
The story begins, showing us the NPC misadventure that is Asa's life . She's chronically shy, self-conscious, and an overall sardine-dry rule follower. Her parents were killed by demons*. likely, a reason for her discontent with the world. For the sake of no spoilers, i'll say that something is gonna tear down that nihilistic shell she's built up. For better, or for worse:3
*demons in this series, basically act like Parasites from "Parasite 2014," wherein they take over the host's body either with or without the host's respective consciousness being intact. Meaning one demon may take over a host's body, but that actual human is dead, or the demon may be collaborating with the human's own individual mind in a mutialistic relationship. Also, demons eat and kill people if they are not needed as a host. This could either be in order to form a weapon out of their body or simply for sport.
My only critique was that the shift towards the end kinda left the status of our main character unown, which I don't think was the intention.
Overall, from a guy who dosen't read much, I will say this Manga kept me enganged during the entire length and I was thoroughly entertained. I highly reccomend checking out VOLUME 12 of Chainsaw man if your like me and never gave the series a chance before.
Edit 6/26/2024.
I am giving the Chainsaw Man Manga a 10/10 after reading and finishing volumes 1/11. I was sleeping on Chainsaw Man for the longest time, but I'm glad I awoke to this beautiful banquet of tasty and exhilarating writing at it's finest. The pacing is on point from the get-go to the end and every new chapter I was excited to read and move on to the next. The drawing is top tier, characters are very memorable, and each installment felt worth reading. I love seeing Denji's story of rising up the ranks to suddenly becoming HIM over night. From rag's to riches, a classic tale. His journey in exploring power, sexuality, and the finer things in life is really something that must be experienced. My biggest praise though has to also include the surrounding cast. It's a plethora of names that are all well-executed characters who are now some of my favorites. Makima, Power, The Gun Devil, Kishibi, Kobeno, again MAKIMA! Honestly, don't make the same mistake I did, IF YOU SLEPT ON CHAINSAW MAN IT'S TIME TO READ THIS MODERN MASTERPIECE! I highly recommend the entire series. I started with volumes 12-14 which are both excellent, but I'm truly shocked just how PEAK this manga's beginnings were.

Dislike
-The Opening Song (was so bad and the screaming vocals made it only worse; had to skip every time)
-The Ending song (as with most ending songs it was unremarkable)
-A Handful of Episodes felt like filler
Liked
-The ethical questions explored by the series, such as who truly has the right to life?
-The chemistry between Shinichi and Migi
-The brilliant fight scenes
I got introduced to Parasite by the crappy abridged version back in 2016 when those were popular, and likely some sort of top 10 list from "Anime America," the likes of which I can't remember. However, back in 2016 I was still riding the SAO hype train
...
in my circle of friends, so Parasite never made it to my watchlist. However, that was 8 years ago and now I thankfully have the autonomy to watch whatever I want. Simply put, Parasite was refreshing. Therefore, I recommend it to anyone who's looking to get into anime or is a seasoned Otaku as it's a very easy-to-pick-up show. It isn't too long and it explores some quite riveting themes while remaining entertaining for the majority of the season.

After finishing NGE, a good art friend of mine, who ima just call epicfrenchartist23, recommended me to watch Puella Magi Madoka. Now right off the bat ima be honest I don't really see how NGE is related to Puella, but that doesn't matter because to my surprise this anime was pretty darn good in its own right. I never was interested in Sailor Moon as a kid or any anime I deemed "girly" as a kid just because like I was a Lil boy who wasn't tryna get bullied at school for watching anime about a bunch of magical girls ya know. I'm older now,
...
in my teens, so that boxed in way of thinking that I can only enjoy certain anime's is long gone, and this is the first "magical girl" anime I've ever watched, and ima be real it's a Lil bit too cheesy for my taste, so I probably won't check out more anime in this sub-genre in the future, but I definitely respect this anime because it wasn't just some laffy taffy goodie two shoes show were everything works out in the end. Nah, Puella Magi Madoka accomplishes telling an at times mature story that really makes you feel the character's pain, and for that, I gotta give praise where it's due.
Madoka Magicka seems to have garnered fame in the anime community due to its twists and I have to concur that it's very unexpected but oh-so-satisfying. The way this anime unravels its plot and lore is akin to playing a Grand Theft Auto Game. At first it feels way to slow and it's a real slog to get through. But, as the plot builds and thickens it becomes nearly impossible not to see how it ends. For me, this happened when I saw Sayaka's character arc become fleshed out. Her ideals as a person are so strongly laid out, and the things she does for her loved ones and her city are absolutely commendable, which is why her arc is my favorite, even the memorable ending which definitely is going up there in my faves. This highlight of fleshing out characters happens really with the side cast of magical girls, especially Homura's story which honestly is just so tragic. However, Madoka to me at least was a very boring protagonist as she's static for the whole story and basically receives a "Mary Sue" treatment. Now, this is explained later in the show in a semi-decent way, but early on this makes episodes 1-5 a slog to get through since so much screen time is devoted to her whining and kumbaya mindset. Ultimately, she ended up being the character I cared about the least as she was just so one note, and she doesn't change at all over the course of the plot.
As far as the rest of the show goes, I gotta say I'm a dude who's got an itch for a good anime opening. Puella Magi Madoka failed to scratch this itch as its opening is so run-of-the-mill and very contradictory to the actual themes of the anime as the song is just way too poppy and happy if you know what I mean.
Definite praise has to go to the visuals. It's like a mix of a Franz Ferdinand music video and a Bayonetta level, which is to say it's super creative with its collage of different art styles all working to make the entire piece work immensely. The fight scenes are just so aesthetically pleasing and engaging, so I have to give it props.
Overall, Puella Magi Madoka is a good (7/10) anime. The final episode wasn't that satisfying, but the lead-up to that is a rollercoaster ride of emotions. The biggest highlights of the show are the fight scenes, side characters, and simply the way the show unravels the plot. So, I'd say for anybody looking to get into anime or just the magical girl sub-genre for the first time, this is a good starter anime for you.
Edit: Broader implication/my thematic takeaway
life is gonna have some bad things thrown your way, rather than trying to fight the past and cry over what can't be changed, it's best to look at what you have now, make the most of it, and keep moving forward. Because fighting what's set in stone is futile, however, your future is in your hands.

I'm just gonna say it straight out the gate, Neon Genesis Evangelion is a masterpiece that speaks volumes about the human mind. It's an amazing work of art that had my friends and I questioning ourselves on the reason behind why we do the things we do. It's a question I never would have asked and or tried to answer so thoroughly without having seen Neon Genesis. Due to this series, I feel like I've learned to accept the parts I love about myself a helluva lot more, while simultaneously learning that all the self-doubt, embarrassment, and trauma in life will eventually be healed over
...
time. Furthermore, I can say it's given me a greater appreciation for people who simply just view and live out a lifestyle different from my own. Overall, I've been a pretty pessimistic and depression-prone person for a very long time, but Evangelion in only a couple of days (this might sound hyperbolic but I'm 100% being real lol) has helped me truly enjoy waking up even when thing's aren't going the way I want them to. For that, I'll eternally be grateful to this anime, the people who made it, and basically the author Hideaki Anno because his work has helped me to crush as well as overcome my self-destructive addictions and (at the time) poor state of mind. So, big ups to them for that.
This series is about a young boy, Shinji, who's been abandoned by his father and was totally your ordinary student. However, his life is turned upside down when he's called in by his father (whom at this point hasn't spoken to his son in years) to defend Tokyo from Godzilla-Esque antagonists called "Angels." Throughout the course of the series, many explosive battles will occur that will leave a viewer in awe, but it's truly the layers of lore, smart dialogue, and mature characterization that will keep the viewer hooked (it did for me at least xd).
For my more objective take on the anime I have to say one mighty praise I have for it is that it's engaging. I normally never binge-watch shows, but from episode 1 and onward I was left constantly yearning to know what happens next, and by the time I hit episode 13, I knew for a fact I had to finish this show. In fact, I find it's an anime that's perfect for doing so since each episode is only twenty minutes and there are only twenty-six episodes in all. On top of that, the writing is so well layered with how it addresses the characters and their respective identities. The best example that comes to mind is Asuka's character. Upon the first introduction, I wrote her off as an annoying, yet funny tsundere archetype, and other viewers may agree with this assessment, but I promise as the show goes on and her layers are unraveled it's simply mind-blowing to truly know why she is that type of person. Now for most casual weebs like myself, action is important, and for a guy who's never been interested in the mecha genre due to my westernized transformer's stereotype of the genre, I thought it was gonna be wack. I'm glad I was proven wrong because the fight scenes are sublime to look at. You can really feel the danger and intensity that the pilots go through with every encounter with the angels which makes it feel like a definite thriller. So, if you're into nail-biting action, but your unsure about mecha anime then this is a great start. Also, I can't close out this review without touching on the art and the soundtrack of the series. All I can say is that it's iconic for a reason that it earns. The artwork is quite simply, so good that I would genuinely frame some of the scenes, and the opening is endlessly replayable and catchy. Finally, I'm not gonna spoil anything but everything about this anime is just executed in such a way that it's aged like fine wine, even the controversial ending which personally I can say was the best way for the series to end. Overall, if you are curious if the hype is backed up, looking for a good action anime, or simply want a mature show that you might relate to, then check out "Neon Genesis Evangelion." I rate it a 10 out of 10 for the masterpiece that it is.
P.S. I can't believe this came out in the 90s because it's freaking so ahead of its time xddd lol thanks for reading.
