Kiteretsu Daihyakka

The premises of both shows are similar: an eccentric genius (Senbei Norimaki/Kiteretsu) builds a silly robot that is capable of acting just like a human (Arale Norimaki/Korosuke), and slice-of-life hilarity ensues. Mami Koyama and Kazuko Sugiyama also play major characters on both shows (specifically, the same major character on separate occasions).

Mechakko Dotakon
|
Mechakko Dotakon is, in many ways, Dr. Slump’s forgotten stepbrother. In addition to premiering on the same network (Fuji Television) during the same season (Spring 1981), both shows revolve around an eccentric inventor (Michiru Dan/Senbei Norimaki) building a powerful yet absent-minded robot child (Dotakon/Arale Norimaki). Unlike Dr. Slump, whose cast consists of characters of all ages, Dotakon’s main cast consists of children (and a dog) - adults are relegated to supporting or one-time characters. Because of this, it’s not nearly as “adult” as Dr. Slump.
