like an 8.5/10
the story was great knowing the context of what it's trying to tackle through its themes. also the themes of love, going on a journey to find oneself (figuratively and literally), disaster, trauma, pent-up emotions, facing the past and healing, are all amazing. i also like that this movie is a timestamp for future generations so that younger generations know of the current time's trends and zeitgeist. also so that major events like the disasters referenced wont be forgotten.
like constantly throughout the film you could see how this current gen likes to record everything they see and post on socials. also there was

a scene where they joked about ai.
animation is amazing as expected from a shinkai film. it was so beautiful it made me cry no joke. one thing tho there was cgi but it was barely noticeable because of how good it was blended with the 2d. im just shocked that cgi is unavoidable nowadays.
the soundtrack reminded me of nier automata with how some tracks sounded "ancient" and post-apocalyptic which fits with the movie's abandoned theme. also the choir chants. then this might be a shallow connection but it also reminded me of demonslayer's ost cus of the traditional japanese music flare to it as well. really loved the ost
i liked the heroine and how they managed to characterize a friggin chair. also the cats symbolism of yin and yang. just reminded me of how this film reminds me of a ghibli movie bc of how fantastical the creatures and the setpieces theyre in are. the side characters were good too especially liked serizawa he added some good laughs.
really enjoyed it. i finally got to see a makoto shinkai film in theaters after missing out on your name and weathering with you. i def will rewatch it again to see details i missed. watching reviews and this vid: (https://youtu.be/KM94QjimjW0) helped me understand the meaning and context of the themes of the film.
my 2nd fave shinkai film behind your name. i like it better than tenki no ko
