this show rules. it's like if SNL were actually funny and you combined it with the eric andre show. if you've seen a clip of the eric andre show and found it funny, you will find this funny.

pop team epic is such a great show to go back to when you're feeling sad because its absurdity will make you laugh. it also keeps your attention by changing to different sketches, which i liked.

the animation is also fun and dynamic. they go from stop motion, to weird ms paint-like drawings, to the original style, to a traditional shoujo style, etc., and it miraculously works.

if you think ... this might be funny, watch it. if you hate fun, stay away; it's not for you. this show is for fans of absurdist humor ONLY.

THIS MOVIE SUCKED!!!!!! it was maybe the most fake deep thing i've ever seen. i will elaborate.

but first! positive things: i loved the animation and the fight scenes. they were so cool. i also really liked the soundtrack and komm susser tod will always be a depression bop. it all returns to nothing babe. i also really liked the scenes with asuka because she is my favorite mean lesbian who doesn't know it yet <3.

things i disliked:
1. it ruined shinji. in the original show, shinji is supposed to be a sympathetic character that people struggling with depression relate to and see themselves in. but this ... movie put the middle finger up to anyone who related to him by making him a terrible person with regard to his behavior toward asuka.

2. this was a problem i also had with the original show, but it was way too weirdly horny about the kids. please stop doing that. thank you.

3. it made less sense to me than the original ending and was also less compelling. i loved the character explorations in the original ending and that was definitely missing in this version. i feel like i never learned anything about anyone or knew what anyone was feeling at any time. i was also just Confused by a lot of the plot and felt like things weren't explained, but that might be a universal problem of the evangelion franchise.

4. the abrupt beginning. the movie felt like it started out of nowhere and i had trouble placing it in the evangelion continuity. it also gave you no time to get situated and get used to the characters, which is probably just a personal opinion of mine.

5. not enough pen pen. need i say more.

finally, i'd like to close with saying that i don't think this is a good alternate ending. i would have been perfectly happy with the original ending being the actual ending, as it was more interesting and made more sense.

ok the concept for this one slapped. the soundtrack slapped. the animation slapped. the plot kept me very interested. but i would not recommend this to anyone.

after a certain point i felt like i was only watching for shin and noi because their relationship was very compelling. the rest of the story kind of fell by the wayside for me and i cared about them more than any of the other characters. i really enjoyed getting to learn their backstories and see them develop.

i did not like the way the narrative treated ebisu and that was one of the main reasons i rated it so ... low. she's 13!!!! begging showrunners to be normal about children in their shows.

anyway dorohedoro has some of the best eds i've ever seen. they're so fun and i have them in my spotify library. the fight scenes were also amazingly animated and i loved seeing everyone's powers in action.

i will probably watch season 2 if/when it comes out just to see more of the story but i don't think anyone else should watch it. i guess.

okay 7/10 if you watch death note as a comedy. like 4/10 if you watch it for the actual plot. it is so absurdly overdramatic that it's impossible to have a good time watching it if you take it seriously. but it is hilarious if you go in knowing it is so over the top and full of drama. i had so much fun watching it and losing my mind at every overdramatic thing that happened.

as far as characters go, i really liked mello. gender. also ryuk was the protagonist and rem was his cool lesbian best friend. who is light yagami i wouldn't know.

also ... i really liked the score. yoshihisa hirano owns my taste in anime scores. and the animation was cool too i guess.
