This is a hard one to rate as there were some good and some bad things about this anime. I'll list some of both the good and bad.

1. I enjoyed the friendships that were formed along the way. Though some of them came a little later than others, they felt genuine and I shed some tears when we lost a few of them.
2.There were some funny moments, sad moments, moments that infuriated me, meaning the story was able to bring out many different emotions.
3. I liked Miaka as the lead and wanted to see her succeed.
4. I liked the romance.

Those are some of the good ... things. Now the things I liked least.

1. Yui. This girl is supposed to be the smart one between her and Miaka but she is easily manipulated into believing all the wrongs that befell her were somehow Miaka's fault. Not only that, she decides that she's in love with Tamahome, based off of reading the interactions he had with Miaka, so now she will do everything in her power to have him or prevent him from ever being with Miaka.
2. Miaka turning a blind eye to all the hurt and trouble Yui was causing even when she was trying to kill her and her friends. At what point do we say enough is enough, there's no coming back from this? Not even after the massacre of an innocent family? Honestly, this is an issue I have with many shojen/shojo series.
3. The constant back and forth between Miaka and Tamahome. They want to be together, they can't be together. She wants him, she pushes away, she comes back. He pulls away, he comes back. They're torn apart, they find each other again, but he can't have her, he pushes away, he comes back. And repeat back and forth back and forth!
4.The amount of attempted rape plus Miaka and Yui being middleschool students! Why do they have to be so young?

These are some of the things that stood out but I also realised that during the final 20 or so episodes, I just wanted the story to be over with. Everytime Miaka and the Suzaku 7 accomplished something, they were told "oh wait, that wasn't it, you now have to do something else to summon Suzaku." I forced myself to continue because I don't like leaving things unfinished. I probably won't be watching the OVA.

This emotional roller-coaster of an anime left a bitter-sweet taste in my mouth. As enjoyable as it was, the 'forgive and forget' outcome is extremely unbelievable. After everything they had to endure (emotional/psychological/physical abuse, emotional manipulation, eye blinding, 2 murder attempts, imprisonment and all the torture) they really said, "We know you've made our lives an actual living hell but we're just going to act like it's all okay." Akito is rewarded for her crimes with her own happily ever after.

Another gripe I had was the student council episodes with Yuki. His character development really went down hill in season ... 2 and sitting through his episodes was gruelling. He couldn't have been given a more lackluster love interest.

Last but not least, I don't know the rules in Japan but grown men praying on school girls is never okay! Shigure was called out many times for being a perv but Kureno and Kazuma were given a free pass. Double standards for the sake of the plot. Smh
