Saiki K has been in and out of my life ever since my sophomore year of high school. Saiki used to be basically my favorite anime, and I have very fond memories of having first watched it. Actually, I had logged the second season on MAL before I had ever watched it, as I thought there was only one season. After having found out about the second season, I jumped into it and finished it in 2 days. Saiki K basically formed the humor I have today without even realizing it. usually forget about it, but then it would return as one of my favorite anime of all time. This year, revisiting Saiki K was due to my anime club having pitched the series for the semester. Towards the end of the semester, Saiki K had been the only series that all the club members were actually paying attention to. Saiki K is hilarious, memorable, and means the world to me.
Saiki K is absolutely hilarious. I had never really fallen in love with comedy until I watched Saiki K. Not only is Saiki K random, but its also surprisingly smart with its humor. One of my favorite parts about the series is how Saiki K tries to explain anime tropes that are aided with Saiki K's powers. The shows self awareness adds so much to the series that I really haven't found in other anime. Sure, maybe anime will make fun of anime tropes, but with Saiki K, they blend it into their world, which is absolutely hilarious when they point it out. An example of this is how the show realizes that high school can never last this long or have this many eventful days. How the show explains this is Saiki K resets the world every year because of a meteor that was supposed to strike earth.
Saiki K is basically a parody of anime at this point. The characters are so over exaggerated its unbelievable yet it works so well in the story. Each character has their own charm and none of them take away from the series. Each character is also unbelievably dense, which adds another layer of humor to the series. Nendou is the complete dumbass, Kaido is the chuunibyou, Teruhashi is the perfect girl, Hairo is over enthusiastic about exercise ethic. These tropes are basically their defining character traits, which makes the characters so funny. The fact that the characters' personality is so dependent on their highlighted traits makes the humor of the show stand out from other shows. In contrast, another fantastic comedy anime called Love is war, has deeper characters that feel grounded and have development. Saiki K also uses these tropes to effect our protagonist in humorous ways. Saiki K has an incontrollable mind reading abilities which makes him hear basically everyone in the surrounding area. Due to this, Saiki K can basically hear everyone approaching him and expects basically everything. Nendou though, is so dumb that Saiki has no way of knowing what he is thinking nor when he is being approached. This makes Saiki afraid in Nendou and causes some hilarious scenarios in the show. The powers that Saiki has are well realized.
One complaint I hear about Saiki is that the production is bad. Which to an extent, I can agree on. Though I'd argue that the anime does so much well, and that the awful art does not detract from the show at all. The production is well done in specific areas. I think where the anime excels at the most is in its pacing. The comedic timing is absolutely flawless, and really sets Saiki K apart from other comedy anime. The awful art in my opinion, does not detract from the series at all either. The off proportional faces in my opinion can 100% be brushed off as Saiki K already has a pretty color pallet but also the show itself is so well written it doesn't really matter. Also, the fact the characters are so still most of the time can add to the humorous experience of the show. Its not slideshow levels of bad, but this show does rarely twiddle in actual animation anyways and seeing characters just slide on screen doesn't take away from the humor.
Saiki K means the world to me. Its been with me in all of the most memorable parts of my own life. Saiki K has come back into my life on multiple accounts, including at times where I am at my lowest mentally. Saiki K has always been one of the best shows to lift up a bad mood. Saiki K is self aware of it being an anime, and the way it makes fun of anime tropes and twists it into its own narrative makes Saiki K truly stand out from other comedy anime. Although there have been complaints against in specifically in its production, I don't think it takes away from the show at all. And I actually think the production excels at some points. I would recommend anyone to watch Saiki K if they have the chance. Saiki K is an absolutely unforgettable anime.

I have mixed emotions about this Saiki Kusuo OVA. The art is absolutely terrible, I have no idea if it was a team that worked on this or just one person. Unlike some bad art spots in the good anime actually making the anime funnier at points, here it doesn't add any value to the show. The pacing feels incredibly odd and makes the jokes feel stale. While the actual good Saiki anime feels perfectly paced which makes its jokes land perfectly, this OVA doesn't do that. What's odd about it is that you KNOW the jokes are funny, but instead of laughing you tell
