Hanging out at a school. Nothing really supernatural in GJ, but lots of strangeness. Demi-chan has lots of both. Both focus on a male character and a cast of female characters, in GJ the boy is a freshmen, in Demi he's a teacher. Romance isn't really the focus of either show, but there are hints of plot lines that don't get developed so much as revisited every so often. There's more self discovery in Demi, more slice of life in GJ. I liked both for their extremely relaxing atmosphere and the occasional hysterically funny scenes.

Armies clash around two characters, who, while they don't trust each other at first, try to make sense of the world. Both deal with the same themes during approximately the same time period. Mononoke is more fantasy, Stranger is slightly more realistic/grittier.
