Kotonoha no Niwa is the kind of movie that reminds you that we're all unperfect, but that love, however strange it may seem to others, can mend broken lives to make them whole again.
This is the first Makoto Shinkai movie I've watched, and it did not disappoint. The animation was great, and its realism really supported the emotional storyline. From the little details like a still of a cicada morphing, to hearing the difference in textures when Takao is cutting vegetables, or even Yukino's mismatched Marimekko cups, the artwork created such a special lived-in feel that anyone could easily project themselves in the storyline.

Chihayafuru is an anime I come back to again and again. Here's why.
Although the art isn't the most amazing part of this anime, this passion driven story which focuses on themes such as friendship, team spirit, and coming of age, really spoke to me. The characters are well thought out and developed, and I truly felt like I got to know them through their aspirations, background, and relationships. The Chihaya-Taichi-Arata love triangle is possibly the most frustrating part of the story, but I enjoyed watching something that focused on other themes rather than exclusively focusing on a love triangle. This (too) short film will stay in your heart forever.
Hotarubi no Mori e displays pure, timeless, and unconditional love in the most magical way. The symbolic details made the movie for me. The music was exceptional, and perfectly timed. The backgrounds were very realistic to me and the summer scenes made me feel extremely nostalgic. I felt deeply touched throughout the film, almost as if it gave me hope that this kind of love exists. There's something about this film that speaks to the soul, and although it might be heartbreaking for some, others like me might enjoy it for what it was. Truly an beautiful depiction ... |
