95% of this show comprises some of the most lighthearted, uplifting, creative, relatable and funny writing I've ever seen on screen, channeling things like Nichijou and Peppi Longstocking.
The other 5% is sexualization of minors. It's usually embedded randomly throughout the episodes and of course it doesn't serve any purpose other than to appeal to a specific demographic. Given the stark contrast with most of the show it's deeply disheartening, making me wish that someone had taken these episodes and cut these 5% out of them in a video editor like the tumors of Japanese entertainment that they are. A detective agency whose members have supernatural skills. Why? And how far can this premise be carried? In hands of authors less capable, not very far at all. But no. Yes! It's the sort of work where things simply come together--the premise couldn't matter less. Unbothered by the fact that it's supposed to be a series of still images boxed into panels, this manga rises from the pages with impressive effortlessness and manages--god knows how--to feel animated. I struggle to think of any other title pulling this off this well. And swear, I can almost hear the score at times.
