Angel Beats... Hmmm.. This was one anime that I've seen a lot of people recommend on a variety of forums or directly to me. In this review, I'm going to focus mostly on how much I was both enjoying it but kind of disappointed in the end. Let me explain. Please notice how this review may contain spoilers, however I'll defenetely highlight them so that you can stop reading when there will be a massive spoiler alert on your screen.
So, what got my attention of this anime, is how much people said they were "in tears" at the end of it and things like that,
...
but I honestly could not feel such emotions at all throughout the anime. Although I must say, the anime itself was really enjoyable and I defenetely recommend watching it if you haven't, at some points I felt like the anime was kind of boring and the episodes felt longer than they really were. The animation and sound quality was truly outstanding, I really enjoyed how accurate the Japanese dub seemed to be (I really loved how all of the characters talked throughout the whole series). I loved the color tones used in the series and the night scenarios were outstandingly well made, the animations were fluent and it was a pleasure to witness overall.
The story is what basically didn't really get me into the anime that much although some people may or may not like it more than I did. I really loved all of the flashback moments in the series and liked the slice of comedy that took place when necessary (the anime could sometimes make me really laugh, which is something that rarely happens with jokes I see on screen in general). One thing I didn't specifically enjoy was the choice of leaving a few characters completely undeveloped, which felt irrelevant for a few ones but more relevant with other ones, which I wanted to know more about, but there will be more about this in the section that contains spoilers (which actually doesn't only contain negative things I have to say, so make sure to keep reading if you've already watched the series or to read later once you're done with this anime).
Now, the reason why I gave it an 8/10, which was originally a 9/10, which I've decided to rethink before writing this review...
This is the hot stuff, the part of the review that contains spoilers, and I recommend reading after watching this anime. I really recommend reading the point 2 as it's crucial to my final score on this anime.
If you've decided to stop reading, then I hope you enjoyed your stay, otherwise, keep on reading as the interesting part is about to begin.

Here, I have a few positive and negative things to say specifically in this section.
1) As previously mentioned, I didn't like how they left a few characters undeveloped or slightly developed, while I also have to admit I loved this choice when applied to a specific character: TK. The character that was probably the funniest in the series, suddenly became one of the ones I had to reconsider the most due to how heartbreaking his story is (if you want to learn more about it, look it up on Google, it's really easy to find). Reading this character's story was heartbreaking and I'm glad they didn't mention anything about it in the anime, ad it basically makes you reconsider the whole anime's story after knowing about it, and I think I would've seen things a lot differently if I were to know it before watching the anime.
2) This is the part where I'm criticizing the ending to the story with something I wanted to point out for the ones who hadn't figured yet. Basically, Tachibana Kanade reveals Otonashi Yuzuru (protagonist) why she acted like she did throughout their stay in the afterlife world... She said she basically didn't want to share her feelings because if she had shown the protagonist how thankful she is for letting her live longer with his organs donation she would've vanished, which happens seconds later. What doesn't make sense in all of this? Tachibana Kanade had been in "heaven" for longer than Yuzuru, meaning that she had died before him, which defenetely could've not happened if she lived longer than him thanks to his organs donation (where she lived for longer prior to receiving Yuzuru's heart if I recall correctly). And how could she know that it was specifically Yuzuru's heart rather than a complete stranger's? I just couldn't get it.
3) Following point 2, this choice was also kind of aimed (in my eyes) to make the viewer consider the hot topic surrounding organs donation, and how many more people could survive terminal diseases if people were just kind enough to sign a document where they state they want their organs to be donated to the people in need if the subject died in, let's say, a car accident for example. But people are apparently too busy to do so, and that's what, in my eyes, Angel Beats wanted to teach to the viewer. This anime seriously made me reconsider a few of my life choices about organs donation, which I thought was something I'd never do, but apparently, since there are so many people in need and my heart, lungs, stomach and organs would get wasted with an hypotetical accidental death, it'd be a pity to get them wasted. As of right now, I'm not aged enough to make such a decision, but it's defenetely something I'll keep in mind; the only things I'd never donate would probably be my eyes or anything that has to do with my appearal, but this review doesn't have to become a report on my life choices.

Hi everybody. This is NickSharpx and this is my second ever anime review, so, hmm.. Where could I start from? I have a lot to say about to this masterpiece, so keep reading if you're interested into watching this! I'll begin with a little disclaimer that could save a lot of people: If you're one of those people who like to watch OVAs before the series, then don't you dare doing it this time. In this case, Another's OVA is a prequel, meaning that the action takes place before the whole story, although you're meant to watch it at the end, like a sequel. Ok, with ... Dec 30, 2015
First of all, this is my first review ever, although I felt like I really needed to let my opinions out on this anime.
This review will not contain any spoilers, even though it's a 35 minute long anime, so they wouldn't change things much. So, I've watched this anime without reading the manga, which is said to be good, but I don't honestly see why people hated it so much. Now, I've watched the entire anime all at once, and I guess that's probably the reason why I didn't dislike it as much as others have. The thing with this anime is, the story is kind ... |
