Both shows are centered around friendships with romance being secondary to the plot. However in Sakamichi no Apollon it's a little deeper(josei) and focused on Jazz as well.

If you liked Alive: Saishuu Shinkateki Shounen add

...then you might like Zetsuen no Tempest add

It has a very familiar feel to it. While Alive:The final evolution is more sci-fi, Zetsuen no Tempest has a more "fantasy" background. The art style is similar and it involves 2 boys who fight for, with and against each other for a girl and their friendship (this makes more sense once you read them both to the end) Not a very good explanation but I feel that if you enjoyed one you'll definitely enjoy the other!

It has a similar "feel" if that makes any sense. It's similar in that it has a main character that is "normal" but special in his/her own way, but who helps solve the problems of his/her friends. While everyone that surrounds him/her has a special "ability" Also, it holds a lot of mystery of the characters background stories (that are intertwined) that is slowly revealed throughout the story.

both have an older man looking after a young girl, although Yotsuba is more focused on the "adventures" of the little girl and the friends she makes. Yotsuba is lighthearted with serious moments.
