This is coming from a lesbian perspective, but I relatively enjoyed this. It definitely needs a second season in order to see if I like it or not, but it definitely looks promising.
Story 7/10
I really like the premise and thought it was an interesting twist on the isekai genre. The first episode was amazing and really sucked me in, but it kinda went downhill after that. The last arc in the season is what brought up the score. The ending of the season was really well done and makes me excited for season 2.
Art 5/10
Very average, cheap anime art style. I noticed that they reused
...
a lot of frames, especially toward the end.
Characters 7/10
I like the main characters, but they do fall into basic archetypes of the isekai genre. Some red flags for me were the constant use of "friends" between the two female leads, and I swear if they queer bait I will be rioting. Overall, I just want to see some good sapphic love, and that is kinda what I got. I just hope they make it more romantic in future seasons.
Overall 7/10
Pretty average isekai/fantasy overall, but added points for the gl. I really hope this anime gets a second season because I think this series can become a lot better over time and with some plot and character development. I recommend this to those who enjoy fantasy/magic environments, like gl, or are fans of shows like The Seven Deadly Sins (when it was good).

Summer Time Render is a great suspense anime and uses the time-loop gimmick amazingly. Recommend this to anyone who liked shows like Higurashi, or Erased.
Story - 9/10
I think the story is really well done and had many twists and turns I was not expecting. My only problem is that the pacing at the end felt a little rushed, but other than that, really entertaining. I liked all the characters, and I even cried a few times while watching.
Art - 7/10
I really like the art and the art style. I felt that the quality slipped a little near the end, but overall very nice.
Overall 9/10. Really
...
entertaining and made me want to keep watching.

I feel that gender identity in anime is very misconstrued. Most of the time, trans women or men who wears masculine clothes either do not have their gender identity truly addressed, or are just called "traps" or other unsavory words. I thought this manga did a beautiful job of showing the struggle of finding your gender identity and sexuality.
One of my favorite parts of this manga is that, even at the end, we don't truly know Arima's gender identity and neither does he (I am using he/him pronouns because that is what is used in the manga), and that is totally fine! Although he is
...
able to work through his trauma a little, it does not solve his gender crisis, which I really enjoyed and thought was very realistic. In many manga and anime with gender-queer people, after their problems are fixed they often go back to representing their birth gender, which not only sets an untrue president that trans people are created from trauma, which is just untrue. Gender expression is part of who you are, and working through trauma does not at all mean you have to assign with your birth gender. This manga does a great job at showing this.
Another thing I really liked is the conversation about Hirasawa's sexuality. He likes who he likes, and he doesn't feel the need to put a label on it. I think this is great for people still figuring out their sexuality. Just like who you like, and there is no pressure to put a label on it!
I also thought the relationship was very well written. Hirasawa did not fix all of Arima's trauma but was just there to support him. I feel that there is a huge pressure (especially on women) to fix men's problems for them, but in reality, all you need to do as a partner is be there and support them. Great message!
Overall, a beautiful story with amazing art that shows the struggle of gender identity, figuring out your sexuality, and working through past trauma. A great read for everyone, not just queer people!

Is this groundbreaking? No. I mean it's an OVA with the missing scenes in the manga. When I first watched the movie, I was extremely disappointed to see they cut these out, but after watching the OVA, I'm glad they did. It would be really confusing to jump back and forth between characters. (although this wouldn't be a problem if they just made it into a series, which is what I think they should've done, but I digress)
Very cute, nothing too deep. I do wish they drew out some more of the more emotional scenes (i.e. the clock scene), but whatever; I have the manga
...
so not that big of a deal.
Do you need to watch this? Probably not, but still worth your time. Plus, you HAVE to listen to the orchestra version of Fuyu no Hanashi; absolutely beautiful!!
Hopefully, this means a season 2 or second movie??????
Very wholesome and cute. Good job to the anime creators for adapting the scenes pretty well!

This anime is absolutely beautiful. By the end of the show, you are so attached to each and every one of the characters, even the characters that were only on for a few episodes. I love the lessons this anime teaches and how it shows so many kinds of love; from familial, to friends, to lovers, and more. It also shows grief in a really interesting and unique way. Absolutely amazing and a must-watch for all anime fans.
As I've said before, my favorite aspects of this show were the relationships and characters. I loved all of them by the end of the show, even though
...
I kinda hated them at first (I'm talking to you Tonrai). A great comparison for this is Violet Evergarden, another of my favorites.
If I had to complain about anything, it would have to be that it gets a little repetitive (plot setups, character deaths, etc.) But it was still very entertaining.
Again, an absolute masterpiece, and cannot wait for season two!!!

One of my favorite anime of last season was Wonder Egg Priority. I loved the art, the story, and the serious topics it covered while still taking them seriously. While I do think the special/finale did fall short of my expectations, I really don't think it was as big as a flop as it is accused of being.
A lot of people did not like/understand the sci-fi aspect of the ending, but for me it was understandable. I do think that this topic (and basically the whole show) was rushed. If this show was given 24 episodes, I think that they could give more context to
...
the situation and story.
Now to the most controversial part of the special; the "truth" of Koito's suicide. It is shown that (btw through the teacher's eyes), basically, Koito "falsely" accused him of rape and said she would jump off the building if he didn't come up and face her. But, she accidentally fell off the roof.
First of all, if this is actually the canon reason for Koito's death, this is extremely problematic. We have no prior reason to doubt Koito or think she is an "attention seeker". This also sets the precedent that people standing up to their assaulters are "liars". Of course, that situation can happen, but it is extremely rare and a harmful stereotype for sexual assault survivors.
Personally, I am of the belief that the teacher was lying and Koito really was assaulted and committed suicide due to that. Throughout the show, we see conflicting views of this teacher, but he always gave me the creeps.
I think many of these issues (Koito's assault and death, the story and pacing, sci-fi aspects, etc....) could be solved with another season. But, due to the rumors about the staff not getting along and other aspects, we probably won't see another season :( I think this anime is supposed to be up to your interpretation, so don't take this finale so seriously :). Although a little disappointing, I do not think the special ruined the great parts of Wonder Egg Priority, so I definitely recommend people to start this anime and to watch the special :).

AMAZING AMAZING AMAZING I CANNOT STOP CRYING
This show is THE best anime I have ever watched. I know it sounds stupid, but this show really helped me as a person and made me learn and grow.
Usually I do more in-depth reviews, but this is all I can say. I love this show with every fiber of my being. Please watch this and you will fall in love too.
The characters are all unique and go through amazing character development throughout the story. My favorite part of this show is the way it explores different kinds of love and relationships; from familial to friendships to love,
...
this show shows it in a beautifully profound way.
If I had to make a complaint, it would be the lack of LGBTQ+ relationships. There are about 6-ish major romantic relationships, and all of them are straight relationships. But, the manga was first written in 1999, so I can't rip it too hard :)
Anyways, what are you waiting for?! Go watch and fall in love with this masterpiece!!!!!

(no spoilers)
Usually, I do a more serious review, analyzing the parts I liked and didn't like, but with JJK, there is too much I like and nothing I don't. So:
JUJUTSU KAISEN IS AMAZING. GO WATCH IT. WONDERING IF YOU SHOULD? WATCH IT. NOT SURE IF YOU'LL LIKE IT? WATCH IT. I HAVE NEVER FELT SO PASSIONATELY FOR A SHOW BEFORE. KISS KISS KISS KISS. DOESN'T MATTER IF YOU'VE NEVER HEARD OF IT. WATCH IT!!!!!!
Anyway... if you couldn't already tell, JJK is a masterpiece of shounen. It is constantly breaking barriers and stereotypes in the genre, plus, has some of the best art I've seen in
...
anime. I would go as far as to say, as of now, JJK is THE best shounen (tied with Attack on Titan) on the market right now. Can't wait for the new movie and the second season!!!!!!! <33333333

Spoiler-Free Review!!
As an avid enjoyer of the romance genre of anime and living vicariously through these fictional characters, I was interested to see if Horimiya would hit the sweet spot for me. Overall, I think it really did. The anime was actually funny and romantic and made me cry a few times. So, if you like anime such as Fruits Basket or A Silent Voice, I think you will really enjoy it.
Now, onto my more specific critiques and praises!! (keep in mind I have not read the manga)
Similar to Fruits Basket, (aka the best anime of all time) this anime focusing and sheds light
...
on many different forms of adolescent love, and I really admire the show for that. But, I was disappointed in how these topics were brushed off or "settled" in just 5 minutes. I think if the show was 24 episodes instead of 13, they would really be able to explore all the relationships shown in this show to their full extent. So, although I loved all the characters, I gave this anime a 4 in the character rating section because of this shallow explanation of these relationships.
Next, onto a really petty complaint (this is more of a rant rather than a critiquing/review of the show, so don't let this stop you from watching it). In the beginning, Miyamura was shown as an introverted outcast at school that turns out to be an alternative boy with tattoos and piercings at night! I thought that set-up was really cute and funny, so I was really disappointed when the show basically threw that away when he and Hori start dating. You never see him wear his piercings again, no mention of his tattoos, and he cuts his hair >:<. (I like short-haired Miyamura better, but what's the point of making him seem like a cool, original character when he just ends up looking like a basic anime protagonist in the end??)
Also, similarly to what I said before, this shows sheds light on a lot of different issues; from personal insecurities to complicated feelings and relationships. But, out of the whole cast, Miyamura was the most affected by this. His character and story would have been so heart-wrenching if they just put more time into showing his backstory and how he grew as a person.
TLDR:
So, in all, should you watch this anime? If romance is your jam; then yeah definitely. Although I did have some complaints, it's still a really sweet story. The creators should have definitely put more time into exploring all the relationships in this show, which could have easily been fixed by just making it a 24 episode season. Also, I doubt there will be another season, so they have no way of fixing this. Still, definitely watch it if you like romance. Have fun!!

FOR ANYONE WANTING TO START WATCHING THIS:
This is not a remake of the original Higurashi no Naku Koro ni. This is the third season. I don't know why the creators did not make this clear, but whatever.
If you want to watch everything you need to know before starting this, I recommend:
1. Higurashi no Naku Koro ni
2. Higurashi no Naku Koro ni Kai
3. (optional but I recommend) Higurashi no Naku Koro ni Rei
~ extra: you can also play Umineko. I haven't actually finished yet, but I know there are a lot of connections you can make. This is definitely not needed, as I hadn't played the
...
game before watching these. Just something I recommend to do before or after watching this because you get more info and its just a really good game :)
Now for the review!: NO SPOILERS
(keep in mind I have not played the Higurashi games)
For a while, I was a casual watcher of Higurashi, thinking it was a fine horror/thriller anime, but nothing more than that. After watching this season though; my whole mindset on the franchise has changed. This season, although not technically canon according to the games, makes the Higurashi universe so much more fun. Even if you weren't a huge fan of the first two seasons, try this one and I bet you will fall in love with the universe just as I have. For some, I can see how this would ruin the "perfect" ending of Higurashi no Naku Koro ni Kai, but honestly, I think it expands on so much explored in that season.
I think we get to see even more sides to the characters than before. Also, I am really interested in if they explain some of the nods and characters that appear from Umineko. Although I have not gotten to that point in the game, I already know that Umineko has a lot of lore that already fits into the original Higurashi series, but it is even more connected with this new season.
I wasn't a huge fan of the art style. Yeah, the early 2000's art style was stellar either, but everything looked strangely round and plastic. That being said, this did not ruin the show for me at all. If anything, it added to the gory/creepy scenes; showing the characters doing disgusting things while still being animated like a light-hearted shoujo. Great thinking on the creator's part.
In all, as I have said before, I loved this season. I can't wait for Sotsu!!!! The only thing I would warn to others is if you are sensitive to gore. I don't think of myself as someone who is, as while I was watching even the worse parts of the prior seasons, I didn't flinch. But, in this season there are some particularly gory scenes that made even me sick. specifically episode 16, so if you are watching, please be warned and maybe skip through some of those parts. But, other than that, amazing work creators!! I can't wait to see how they finish this story up!
