This review is based on the current episodes and what I think of the progression so far.
We go back to episode 1 where we're introduced to a new character that is quite frankly the same way thorfinn was during the early episodes of season 1. However, a little twist considering Einar although he was in the same position was pursued to live on instead of making hard decision by taking revenge which would ultimately be a suicide.
The first episode clearly tells us viewers on how badly slavery was being treated back then and how they are being portrayed by selling and buying slaves.
...
Einar who was bought by a farmer who owns a land to where we have a debut of a new thorfinn seemingly.
What's interesting about this is that the Master is allowing Einar to be free by buying himself back as much as he can by cutting the trees and planting the wheats and stuff to the new land. Which is a good way of story telling about hardship.
Thorfinn during this time seems so lost and empty considering last season his goal was taken away from him, and although he could've went and get revenge at Canute, he was in distraught about the feeling. Which gives us viewers a sign of thorfinn's way of seeing life as he is right now.
Last but not least Einar and Thorfinn's dynamics so far has been amazing, being in a same position albeit losing his family in front of him, and having the opposite of the result of the position. Where Einar was being attacked and Thorfinn who causes the havoc is doing the opposite of what Einar was experiencing. This gives a perspective during episode 4 when Einar learned more about thorfinn, and how it would mean for thorfinn to start anew and live life where it was not based on revenge.
Canute recently has become a new King of England. the pacing of this journey is really incredible to the path of being a King and a leader. Canute who was timid before his growth in season 1 was being led by Askeladd who makes the most decision and strategy, so what if askeladd is gone? Canute becomes more like him and in order to minimize bloodshed, he attacks the head of the pack. Back then it was thought as cowardly and should use battle field to win, but in our society that is in fact smart and more efficient to have less casualties on both sides. We also got a change on how Canute treats his soldiers, even though they're on his side ones they commit something that is out of line which they were Pillaging, he beheaded them just because he forbade them to do so. Which leads to the quote of "If my soldiers can't be disciplined, they are no soldiers of mine". that's a powerful quote for Canute's character, especially what happened in season 1. After he said he will decide where you die or where you live as that is the role of the King.
Overall I would give this season a 10/10 rating, based on my explanation above.
