This was an old review. It's horrible. I don’t like it at all. This style of rating is pathetic. This style of writing and reviewing is pathetic. Everything is pathetic.
This is my first review, be gentle...
We never really think about the work that is put into the animes we’ve watched. From the story boards to the voice acting, it’s all hard work and problems occur all the time. Shirobako is an anime about creating anime. Well, that may sound strange to some of you, I mean watching something about creating what you’re watching? If you’re curious about this show, I highly recommend you watch
...
it. You’ll discover a great story about 5 girls with a dream to create their own anime.
If you’re reading this I assume you like anime, but have you ever wanted to create your own? A group of friends, Aoi Miyamori, Ema Yasuhara, Shizuka Sakaki, Midori Imai, and Misa Toudou all have a wish to create an anime together. After creating a short anime in the anime club during their time in high school, the 5 girls set out to find a career in anime. The girls struggle to pursue their dream as they run into problems such as not finding a job, not being able to work in what they want to work on, or even figuring out why they want to work in anime. Through this show, we discover a whole new story from behind the scenes that we would have never have thought of-…. well I’m sure there are some shows or movies out there with a similar concept.
Anyways this show is great. With bits of slice of life, comedy, and drama, we see what the creators of our favorite shows go through as they work hard to entertain us. It’s a perfect show to learn to appreciate the work that is put into the anime we watch every day. And possibly even be inspired to create your own anime.
Story: 9/10
The story is easily relatable if you’ve ever tried to work hard on something but didn’t succeed, or work on something without a clear sight on the future.
The main goal of the story is to get closer to the main characters goal, to create an anime together.
*spoiler alert*
Which by the end of the show, they kind of did actually make an anime together, just not the anime they wanted. And with the announcement of a movie for Shirobako, I believe they girls will get closer to their goal.
*end of spoiler*
Overall great and relatable story!
Characters: 9/10
The characters of Shirobako, especially the 5 main girls, go through problems throughout the show. And with some of the side characters who have gone through the same, many of them get through it with their help. It’s like your sempai helping you with school issues or something I guess.
The characters are all really likable and relatable, some you just want to punch in the face (funny story guy), but overall, I think they each (the main characters) have an important role to play in the story.
I personally really liked Shizuka and-
*spoiler alert*
after seeing her in the last part of episode 23 where she finally got a voice acting role, I cried so GODDAMN HARD.
*end of spoiler*
Also, she’s very similar to Nanami from Sakura-sou no Pet na Kanojo (The Pet Girl of Sakurasou).
Art: 7/10
The art is easy to look at, though nothing special about it.
Just pretty standard.
Sound: 8/10
I personally loved the openings and endings of the show. Though at first, they didn’t seem all that special. I guess it grew on me, don’t know if it’s the same for you.
The background music wasn’t noticeable for me. I can’t remember most of it since it didn’t stand out at all. The only time I noticed it was when they played the ending song (I think) at the end of episode 24.
Enjoyment: 9/10
During the first few episodes, I didn’t get into the story as much. But as the story progress and I learnt more about the characters, I really started to enjoy the show more than I did at the beginning. I don’t know about everyone else but I think you really got to get past the character introductions (there are so many characters) and world building to actually enjoy everything (probably like every show ever).
Overall: 8.4/10
Shirobako, after finishing it became one of my favorite animes. I definitely cannot wait until the release of the movie. I’ll be sure to review that too.
Anyways, great show! I recommend this if you’re interested in the anime industry.
