This anime just does everything: mecha, romance, anime, human growth, flying (and environmentalism) ... the worldbuilding can be a bit weak at times but what a phenomenal anime. It just has everything that I love including an ode to counterculture/subculture.
The scenes where the mechas soar in the blue air just gives me tremendous feeling of freedom, perhaps something that I wanted to bad my whole life. The animation always manages to portray the beauty of reffing in its finest. Of course, it doesn't fail to say what the price of such freedom is — the sheer ground we stand on, the earth.
The growth of individual

characters are amazing too. This is just a huge coming of age story for all characters, even the ones that are already adults. Being an adult doesn't mean that one's character is complete. There are people who didnt grew up mentally in the show, and sometimes that fucks things up. But Eureka Seven tells us that people are constantly growing and changing — it's fine to be immature as long as you acknowledge your mistakes and take steps to change yourself, because that's what it means to grow up. Characters in Eureka Seven are so young and immature that they get annoying at times but it's okay. That's what humans are. They make mistakes, get mad, suffer the consequences, and ultimately learn more about themselves and others. We grow and learn how to coexist with each other in the world, and as this earth is also something that we must learn to coexist with.
Now that I'm older, this message hits harder — on how we people should live on earth. There's only one earth and one of us, so gotta work hard to love and cherish what we have.
10/10 recommended. It's definitely not everyone's cup of tea, but man I wish everyone would at least give it a try. Makes me wish I had someone who would love me like Renton and Eureka love each other.
