Hello there! I'm just your local lolicon anime fan looking for some fun and great anime!
How I became an Anime fan and MAL User
Although I started watching anime casually sometime during the Winter of 2019 with One Punch Man, I started watching anime religiously on April 24th, 2020 with KONOSUBA - God's blessing on this wonderful world! mostly because I had nothing better to do during quarantine and ended up watching over two hundred shows in the five months I had before starting college... oops ¯\_(ใ)_/¯
I started MAL to keep track of my anime (which I should have done at the beginning of my anime binge) but at least I started early enough that I didn't forget what I watched during quarantine.
I also have a AniList I recently started linked under "Also Available At" on the left, but I'm not active on there as much as I am on here.
How I Watch My Anime
When I watch anime, I try not to only watch the anime but "experience" the anime. I don't only try to pay attention to the plot and characters, but the animation, the dialogue, the sound design, the camerawork, etc. as well in order to try my best to "objectively" rate a show (explained more in "My Rating System")
As for my watching patterns, I definitely slowed down from my "one show a day" mentality from the summer break because of school and whatnot, so now I'm just your typical seasonal anime and occasional movie watcher. (But I'll take any opportunity during a school break to go back to the good old days of binging an entire twelve to twenty-six episode series in a day.}
Since I'm a relatively new "hardcore" anime fan, I'm not really picky about the kind of anime I watch. Although I generally side with the romance/Slice of Life genre, I'm willing to watch anything and everything!
I still have never dropped any anime I started watching, but there will probably be a day when I will hate a series so much that I'll just drop it dead and never come back to it.
My Rating System
To put it simply, I use MAL's rating and review system to help me rate (and maybe review, if I feel like it) an anime.
But instead of being a normal person and giving an anime I watched a general score from 1 to 10, I like to make things hard on myself and give my anime rating based on its five parts (similar to how MAL does their rating system)
Story | Character | Animation | Sound Design | Enjoyment
I'd give each of these parts a score from 1 to 10.
[10] Outstanding: Of course, nothing is perfect, but sometimes a category is just so awe-inspiring and left me utterly speechless of how masterfully the creators made it to the point where I could consider it objectively perfect.
[9] Great: A part of an anime that excels in almost every way. And even with a few flaws, most of it can be ignored by how much it excels.
[8] Very Good: A solid experience in a specific category and even with its various flaws, it was very enjoyable and left a good impression.
[7] Good: Overall a very positive experience worth seeing in an anime even if it had some noticeable flaws, but still enjoyable regardless.
[6] Fine: An above average experience with the good aspects slightly outweigh the bad. It definitely could have been improved on, but doesn't necessarily hurt the reputation of an anime in a bad way.
[5] Average: Overall pretty bland with nothing to show for it. A category that doesn't warrant out to be necessarily good or bad.
[4] Bad: A section that has some noticeable major flaws that hurt an anime overall. It may have had some good and ambitious ideas sprinkled in, but overall came out feeling dry.
[3] Very Bad: An obvious score to give to a category if it was very poorly executed or not well thought out. Even if it had some small redeeming qualities to save it from being a 2 or 1, it was the larger and more serious issues often overshadowed them.
[2] Horrible: Literally, how. How do you make something so bad or boring? Little to no good qualities and even if it isn't offensively bad, it still warrants it to be pointed out when giving a recommendation or review.
[1] Appalling: So offensively bad that I'm surprised that something of that standard could make it out of the production studio. How high or drunk do you think the studio director must has been to be able to approve something so pathetic?
After I give it a score for each category, I put it into an equationbecause I'm quirky to output a general score of how important each category is to its overall score.
The Story and Characters combined are the most important factors in an anime (totalling at 50%) while my personal Enjoyment is the most important single deciding factor, but holds less value than the Story and Characters (coming in at 40%.) The Animation and Sound Design only holds a small factor into a rating because anime these days tend to have very similar production values unless something is noticeably great or terrible (totalling to only 10%)
= Overall Score (rounded to the nearest whole number)
I even wrote a script to make it easier for me to calculate my scores (that's how much I care)
If you think I'm overthinking my scoring for anime... it's because I am. (I guess that's just how I am)
My Rankings
My rankings shown here and down below in my anime progress is not based on anything objectively and are simply my favorites based on personal preferences. This list will not only include continuations of my favorite animanga, characters, and staff but also include related music, games, and otaku personalities.
My Seasonal Watches
Background: Even though I started watching anime religiously in April, the only seasonal anime I watched then was Kaguya-sama: Love is War Season 2 and only picked up watching multiple seasonal anime seasonal anime on a weekly basis starting in the Summer 2020 Season in June. However, I did watch some Spring 2020 anime after it aired so my ratings and my reviews/reviews that encompassed my thoughts on the anime will be linked in this list.
