On the one hand, I disliked this anime....and on the other, I liked it sort of. The main issue with this anime is the plot/storyline. Early on, it seemed to be going somewhere interesting and then it sort of veered off and tried to have a lot of twists and turns that winded up not making much sense or were way too transparent. When it finally decides to get back to the main plot, it feels a bit....weak. The idea is good but for an anime of only 12 episodes, you need to utilize all the episodes you have and not try to rush things
...
in a few episodes. The final battle leaves a lot to be desired...in fact it is rather anticlimactic and there were, imo, far better battles early on in the season.
Where this anime does excel, for the most part anyway, is the characters. All 5 of the main characters are incredibly interesting. Aoba, is the lead, and he isn't my favorite but he is compassionate and compelling enough where you want to root for him.
Mink to me is the character who is sort of one dimensional in his time on the screen. Even with a backstory and development, Mink left more to be desired but at the same time he has the most defined and structured personality of all 5 mains.
The latter 3 are my favorites and precisely why I loved this anime, despite the poor storyline.
Clear is the standout because he is so eccentric and just...a freak. From his initial intro and his overall look, this dude just leaves an impression on you and I loved Clear so much. Especially with his backstory...Clear is my boo.
Koujaku was someone I was a bit eh with at first but as the season went on, I grew to love him. His loyalty and dedication to Aoba is what compelled me to care but his backstory cut my deep and I was ready to jump into my screen and hug him. Such a big teddy bear hidden underneath such angst and aggression.
But Noiz...Noiz is my favorite and the best. He is not one of many words but his actions and mannerisms are precisely what make Noiz so interesting. As you learn more about him, you get to see why he is the way he is. I loved every scene with him and out of the 5, Noiz is definitely the most defined and multifaceted character with Koujaku and Clear as a close 2nd.
(Ren is also a standout as well even if he is not my favorite).
Really watch this anime for the characters. Ignore the plot...half the time it doesn't make sense and the other half it feels rushed. I would watch again just for the characters and I wish for a sequel.
There is a hint of boy's love/shounen-ai romance...It was established early on literally in one scene(a kiss) and then never mentioned again. Which was disappointing really.
However, there are more subtle boy's love moments between the characters as well throughout the season. But this could have been way better had they just let them go for it.
All in all, I rated it highly in spite of its story and it wasn't a bad watch....just not a something i'd easily say was one of my favorites.

This is a bad anime...as far as the visual goes. In the sense that during pretty much any of the fight scenes(especially big fights), the camera is never ON the characters. The only time you really get to see any fighting is just a typical punch or kick and clashing of sword/knives. Another thing is the blood...it is literally this bright red color. Completely unrealistic.
That being said as poor as the visual are, I actually enjoyed this anime. The story was a bit ehh at times and it felt like it was trying to do a bit too much at one time. That being said,
...
the story was engaging enough for me to get into. But what makes the anime so amazing is the fact that the characters really engaged me. I was rooting for many of them and their storylines and development and I think this anime truly did well with most of the characters(especially Keisuke) and it was just an awesome experience. My only major complaint was Akira...his personality and his strength just didn't seem consistent to me. Also, Shiki....he is a fan favorite but this anime did him no justice in my opinion and he came off as a caricature. Keisuke and Rin(to a much lesser) extent are the two characters I enjoyed the most.
All in all, it wasn't a bad anime. Not one of my favorites but it is something I don't regret watching in the least. The only other complaint I have with this anime is the lack of Boy's love. Based off the game it is originally from, I didn't expect anything too graphic but there were many scenes I felt were teasing to the point of taunting and I went into this anime expecting a kiss at least and got nothing.

It wasn't a bad anime. It just wasn't a good anime. But I suppose it is good enough that I manage to watch all 13 episodes within about 3 days.
The animation was weird to me that so many of the characters basically look alike and I kept getting confused as to who was who. I'll cut it some slack. This anime is over a decade old but still the fight scenes were a bit weak and disappointing.
Characters....i'd say the characters were mildly interesting. Surprisingly no one really annoyed me or I flat out hated them. They were tolerable enough but this is one of the
...
few anime where literally no one seems to stand out. From the main character to the minor character, they all seem equally boring and unappealing. I suppose if I had to choose a character, i'd say Naoe is my favorite only due to his twisted character and persona and the evolution of the character throughout the 13 episodes.
Storywise...I really can't tell you what the plot was because so many things were happening at one time. The first episode alluded to one thing and I thought it was going to heavily focus on that particular plot but by episode 2 or even 3 it was abandoned and then we get some fillerish moments before another crazy plot happens and this plot confuses the crap out of me and doesn't make much sense. It's conclusion, though rushed, was satisfying enough but I still was like "What was the point of...." or "why did this..." quite often.
Last but not least the romance...This is quite a twisted anime, especially with Episode 11. The problem with this is....the romance feels forced and tacked on. For most of the 13 episodes there doesn't seem to be too much of a build-up and i'd say around maybe episode 8 or so is when it finally was like "Yeah let's get around to the romance."
I love the idea behind it. It was twisted and not something you see or expect. That being said, the execution sort of made an awesome idea fizzle out royally.
In the end, I say watch it but be ready to binge it. I'd love to see what this anime could be like present day with a much better budget and perhaps even more episodes to fully flesh out characters, plot and romance.
Within 13 episodes, it just was barely average and likely a forgettable anime.

I am not going to lie....22 episodes in and I really still can't fully tell you what this anime was about and there were questions I wanted to have answered that weren't but in the end this is probably another favorite of mine.
I've not seen a lot of Psychological horror. This is not an anime with superpowers, Ninjas, Virtual Reality or anything flashy. This is an anime that gets in your head, confuses you, freaks you out a bit and captivates you from the get go and I absolutely love the mind fuck of it all.
A. Plot(8 out of 10)
...
It's really hard to say what the plot is because there is so much going on in these 22 episodes however I believe the overall plot is about these 3 teen boys who each have experienced or witness a traumatic event in their lives and it has forever changed them. The town they live in holds a dark and devastating secret and as the anime goes on, the viewer as well as other characters begin to uncover the sick truth about the town and the sinister stuff going on.
As our three main characters try to focus on their past traumas and overcoming them, they are thrown into a present situation that could very destroy them if they don't stop it.
B. Characters(9 out of 10):
Rarely ever do I find an anime where I can't stand any of the characters and I genuinely like all of them.. Our three mains are Taro who faced a traumatic experience at the age of 3 but it is the aftermath 11 years later that leaves him troubled, Makoto who holds so much rage in him due to an event linked to Taro that forced him to witness something he never wanted and leaving him with questions unanswered and Masayuki who is hiding a devastating secret behind his jokes and smiles.
All 3 of the main characters are compelling and they have some amazing growth throughout the 22 episodes. Taro of course is your typical goody two shoes but he isn't completely predictable and Makoto is the brooding, angry, emoish type of guy who I usually love because they are the most interesting. However, Masayuki is my favorite from the get go because he is the most diverse and multi-layered of the 3 characters and there is still a lot of mystery to him.
Michio and Miyako(This anime loves people with M names apparently) are also apart of the main group and they were decent. If there was a weaker aspect of the characters, it probably goes to the secondary characters. There are so many secondary characters and the plot tries to focus on our mains to the point where the secondary characters, while interesting, felt less like characters and more like devices to aid our main characters.
C. Animation, Sound and Music(10 out of 10)
The animation for this anime was beautiful. Not overdone but not oversimple. From the human character designs to the souls and even astral projections. I was quite impressed.
Music in this anime was always very fitting. Sometimes in anime, the music can kind of distract you or even outright clash(Happy sounding music in an otherwise sad scene or extremely melodramatic music). The Opening and Ending songs are pretty enticing as well.
What of course shocked me is the sounds....it is kind of creepy. At the start of each episode and the mid-way point, there is this staticy/robotic voice with a ghastly tone that place that sort of adds more to the eerie vibe of the anime. It annoyed me at first but I did greatly enjoy it as the anime went on.
D. The Ending(6 out of 10)
If there is one major flaw to this anime it is last few episodes, especially the final episode. It wasn't awful but it felt rushed and it left so many questions unanswered. Not questions that you can sort of leave up for interpretation....but actual question where you want to know the answer because we spent so much time talking about it and it still isn't answered.
It felt rushed and the rushness sort of clashes with the animes first 19 episodes where they gradually took their time vs the last 3 episodes sort of just decided to go crazy and fast.
It wasn't a bad ending but I did expect more and I felt ii weakened the anime a bit.
E. Overall:
I loved the anime. Aside from a weak ending and weak secondary characters, the story is compelling because there are so many things happening....you want to be apart of the mystery. You want to know what is happening next and you are rooting for these boys to face their demons and to grow.
This is definitely an anime I can recommend everyone to watch because it is so good and I loved it.

Sigh.
Charlotte is a good anime...up until around episode 7 or so. 8-13 however just ruined my love for this anime.
If we base it off the first seven episodes, the main 4.5 characters(if you watch the anime you'd understand the half lol) are realty interesting. Yuu is our central character and he gives you a definite Lelouch from Code Geass feel(and even Light/Kira feels from Death Note). Unfortunately, that pretty much goes away after the 1st episode and he more or less becomes the sarcastic guy who is annoyed by his new team. Nao is the sassy leader who is always ready to kick butt. Takajo(my
...
favorite) is the nerd who has a knack for hurting himself and is obsessed with celebrity teen star Yusa who is annoying but sort of interesting.
Very funny at first with some pretty tender moments and even dark moments that you didn't expect or see coming.
However as soon as episode 8 rolls around, this anime becomes something WAY different. It is trying to do many things at once and it does nothing well.
So many different plotlines come out and yet they either are not resolved, are rushed OR literally make zero sense.
Our four main characters literally become Yuu featuring Nao and Yusa and Takajo become extra who show up just to remind you "hey we're still relevant even though we aren't"
The characters get zero development aside from an episode that centers around them and then the final episode.
And it has plot holes galore or things that are just convenient somehow to make it easier for the main character.
Twice this anime goes in a dark direction where you expect something great is going to come from it only for it to immediately to go "Oh just kidding."
I was let down immensely by charlotte....The first 6 episodes felt decent and easily could be rated an 8 out of 10. They weren't perfect but they were fun and consistent.
The last 6 episodes however hover at a 2...barely and altogether than anime to me makes up a 5.
That ending was....so insulting to us as a viewers because it literally tried to fit what could actually be a season's worth of plot in one 23 minute episode.
Would I recommend Charlotte? Sure if you seriously don't mind stopping at episode 7.
Just a disappointment really.

Will this be one of my favorite Animes? No.
Is this is a good Anime? No.
But it isn't bad...It had a lot of potential it simply didn't meet but it has enough potential that it could improve in Season 2.
Let's start with the Bad:
1. The most annoying thing is the opening credits that pretty much spoil part of the anime...like seriously whose bright ideas was that to put several key scenes in the credits way before they happened?
2. Yu....I wanted to like Yu. He is your stereotypical moody, angry, young male character who rather fight then think logically. But I liked where the first episode ended
...
and I liked what happened at the start of episode 2. The issue with Yu is the fact that his character simply changes personality so fast.
I get that the anime is only 12 episodes so it doesn't have a lot of time but his development felt so rushed and forced and then when he'd go back to his usual cocky self it felt fake.
By the end of the Season, Yuu yet again gets another personality reset and is completely different to the point where he doesn't even seem remotely like himself at all.
3. The Pacing is off...There are several episodes that just really feel like filler(And with 12 episodes that is not good. But the latter half of the episodes are more impacting and captivating even though they felt rushed and overstuffed.
4. Most of the characters are incredibly one dimensional and not that interesting. There is seriously no depth to these characters whatsoever.
5. The action sometimes is a bit lacking.....I'll blame it on budget but it could have been more engaging.
The Good:
1. Mikaela....hands down my favorite character. Love him so much

Honestly this is not a bad anime....it just is not an exceptional anime that I will remember.
The Excellent:
I actually liked the characters...even Nai, the main character. He is pretty much an all around useless character that is constantly in a situation and weak and the mystery surrounding him is a bit meh....and the reveal...Well, Garecki's reaction basically mirrored my own.
Garecki is probably my favorite. Your typical bad boy type who rarely smiles and is quick to anger...but he had far more depth to him and I loved his evolution over 13 episodes.
Yogi as well as the other Circus members make fantastic secondary characters and they
...
weren't just there for background...they actually were integral parts even with their own backstories.
Though Jikki is a close second...I just love that twisted like jerk.
The Good:
I enjoyed the artwork. Beautiful and well-designed and an absolute pleasure to watch. I can't really criticize the artwork.
To me there was a subtle/hidden Boy's Love/Shounen-Ai hint. It is never expressed or anything but it was there and I enjoyed that aspect.
The bad:
The overall mystery was boring and it felt more like a bunch of stories happening at once and there are some filler episodes(even with only 13 episodes) to the point that by the time we get back to the plot it's like...IDC really.
And The Ugly:
The pacing....It's not a boring anime but it does drag a bit and the ending episodes(episode 12 and 13) are incredibly rushed.
I still have no idea what the hell the overall plot was about and what happened in the end. I was a bit meh about that.
And the most annoying thing is probably Nai constantly calling out for his friend or whatever. It got annoying but I am glad that as the anime went on he wasn't doing it every episode like he was early on.
All in all, it was a good anime to watch if you want some decent character development and great artwork and action scenes are decent.
But don't go into this anime expecting to see some masterpiece or high action or even a cohesive plot....
