I was particularly harsh with this rating because I felt that it wasted my time. I never felt like there was enough of an explanation about anything that was happening and the reason it was happening. The character development was very poor as I never really understood why he was putting himself into this melodramatic position to begin with. I felt that the resolve was not strong enough to make him do anything really. would say that the main character was delusional borderline psychotic.
The season finale ended and I was in awe by how nothing really happened in terms of action or at least character development. The hero journey was non-existent, and everything felt very forced. I believe the anime needed more work into it and it is largely overrated. I love isekai but this does not deserve to be on par with other good anime out there where the the characters and the story BOTH make sense.
I avoid writing reviews but seeing this rating made me furious. So everyone here giving this anime a 9 liked it right? However, I never heard anyone saying what they liked about it…
I am not an expert in anime, but I after you read many books and watch so many movies and series, you cone to know and understand when one story is worth telling and good. I mean even if the story is lacking, the characters in it and their development can save it however it did not happen here. In this anime, I never understood why this story was worth telling, I got bored easily, I felt forced to feel sorry for the idiot protagonist, the hero was not hero at all and of course there was no hero journey and I was left with more questions than answers when it finished. I felt empty and did not like what I watched cause it made no sense. It was just a series of events put together to just create extreme emotional scenes. It’s like someone forcing you to watch The Notebook: You will cry but that’s because you’re not an emotionless robot not because you liked the movie.
This anime is not for 8+ rating as this would mean that it is almost as good as: One Piece, Bleach, Naruto, HunterxHunter, Boku no hero Academia, Magi, Black Clover, Jujutsu Kaisen, Attack on Titan, Death Note, Kingdom, and so on…. I doubt that the work put in Re:Zero is remotely close to those where story and character development is there and all of the things that make you love them are missing in Re:Zero.
