Is this a review? Is this my ramblings while high? Did I enjoy this season?
Yes.
Yes to all.
This season covers the arc where I dropped the manga 10 years ago. In manga form, to young ol' me, this was too much unnecessary drama for the sake of making the story longer. I gotta say, the medium added a lot in terms of watchability. In this instance, I was able to read the characters, what they were thinking, the stage of life they're going through, the type of people they are a lot more. It made it so much more enjoyable, it was cute.

I read this several years ago, so a lot of it is fuzzy, but since I'm catching up on my manga list I'll go ahead and review it shortly from memory.
Yoshizumi wataru has a weird obsession with age gap relationships, and illegal ones at that. I was already sussed with Meiko and her teacher in Maramalade boy, but this not even high school student marrying a grown man being excused was too much. I did read it to completion, so I'm glad she ends up dating a boy her age (as she should), but her ex husband not being chastised for grooming this girl still ... May 10, 2024

Look, I'll be brief: this is a bad adaptation.
I haven't read the novels, and I probably never will, but I can clearly see there's a lot missing from them. There are several scenes that seemed to have been omitted, perhaps for the benefit of time constraints or budgetary reasons, but their absence harms the experience overall severely. A lot of context and lore are also not there, so the world building ends up being a huge confusing mess, can't even be inferred. A lot of scenes start out of nowhere, skipping important parts and choosing to summarize them in a few words or just ... Sep 15, 2023

This anime is fine. It has a pacing problem, where they condensed a whole arc into 5 episodes, and I felt rushed through the character development, making most of it less meaningful. I hope the second arc is a bit slower.
Also, I'm tired of isekai slavery, can we do something else now? The plot and setting reminded me a bit of spice and wolf, but spice and wolf is better. They don't show enough of the craft, and I started it mainly to learn more about sugar candy making. I'm hoping this is fixed soon. The characters are standard, and some of them are too noisy and ... Cried/10
I hadn't ventured into a new anime in a while, but was pleasantly surprised. I was aware of the tone going in, and it did delivery in smiles and tears. While not overly dark in it's depiction of it's themes, the themes are indeed very dark, only softened by the presentation (the point of view of a small child). That said, some scenes of child abuse can get vivid. All the main characters have a point of endearment, and their interactions were incredibly enjoyable to watch. Even when I usually don't like child characters, Kotaro was a bittersweet encounter, and all his quirks were charming in ... |
