OK I don't care what people say... i loved this SO MUCH

This.. I don't even know how to explain why I enjoyed this sm. The uncertainty and tension of the first few episodes was just so well-executed. The narrations, overlapping whispers of high school kids, the soundtrack,, the writers just perfectly grasped the pacing of the story. U can literally feel yourself being slowly pulled in... omg i just loved it

Every time I thought I had a grasp on how the story would progress, things would switch around and exceeded my expectations every single time. Ofc there are some clear tropes but that's still enjoyable ... u know. It didn't change the fact that my mouth was literally hanging open for the last 3 episodes LMAO

The gore and death scenes were just so amazing and creative n I was always looking forward to seeing how the next one would unfold. This series..GAME CHANGER.. thank u

This was simply a genuine and light hearted comedy!! And yet it pulled me in with every episode until I watched everything in one sitting.. I was either constantly smiling from nostalgia or bursting into laughter just bc of how ridiculous the comedy was LOL the entire experience was refreshing and a much needed break from a relay of storyline animes.

The art is really really great imo. It feels so fluffy (?) and warm...and then it turns things around so quickly for the comedic scenes!! I enjoyed ... this with my whole heart and reminds me sm of Nichijou <3

Omg this rlly caught me off-guard...

For some reason I steered away from this series bc I thought I didn't particularly enjoy period-pieces but this was rlly something else... the character, outfit and setting designs were so intricate and beautiful T___T (cmon benedict's tie up shirt, frilled pants and strappy heels???fr?? so amazing) The sheer quality of the animation was enough to keep me engaged!!

On top of that, the story-telling and character development was incredible. It's hard to believe it was only 13 episodes... witnessing Violet build genuine relationships and connect with her own emotions...the story arcs that never went off track, and instead felt honest ... and emotional...the flashbacks that fleshed out character backgrounds and kept the story moving...there were so many great aspects to unpack and yet nothing felt rushed!!

I loved and enjoyed this sm with my whole heart...I regret not watching this earlier. pls don't brush it off as one of Netflix's token animes like I did T__T

Despite having its flaws, I refuse to rate this any lower LOL Yes the art is a bit shoddy and the first episode is questionable with cliche visual metaphors but the way the story flows from there really makes a huge difference.

A girl with a shaky sense of self n consumed by self hatred, falls for a girl who doesn't understand love. Their relationship is not in any way ideal, and from afar it looks a lot like codependency. Yet the straightforwardness and honesty of it all is so endearing to me. They're just high school girls with no romantic experience, trying to support ... each other and getting hurt and trapped in the process. It feels real and unapologetic. It's like the writer is reminding us this is how it usually is the first time. No unnecessary romanticisation or sexualisation, this is a real hidden gem for wlws!!

The last episode was a really abrupt ending and caught me off-guard but I'm happy to accept this series as it is and cherish the good parts and how warm it made me feel.

Wow... this movie left me speechless T___T

I didn't go in with high expectations... I'd just finished all of Hibike and wanted to watch everything they had to offer. And this film really shook me to the core.

I seriously can't think of a flaw... the only reason why I scored this a 9 instead of 10 is because I had already known Mizore and Nozomi's (FMCs) bg story and I don't know if it would've hit as hard as a first time watcher. Nevertheless I think Liz to Aoi Tori works well as both a spin-off and a stand-alone film :-)

The story-telling doesn't rush the ... viewer at all and the symbolism is subtle and tasteful, the music was heart wrenching, the desaturated colours rlly complimented the tone of the film, and the parallel storyboarding between the fairytale and the two FMCs was just breathtaking. Nothing was forced or rushed, and yet I felt every emotion clearly and deeply. I could talk ab the art for a whole paragraph TT just so so beautiful TT

In the final practice scene, there was no dialogue and no flashbacks. Just Mizore's oboe, Nozomi's flute and the supporting orchestra. It was simple and poignant, I painfully sobbed the entire time. I loved everything about this film sm T___T

As a KyoAni and K-on! fan, I can't help but be a bit biased... I loved this sm T___T

Needless to say, the art is so beautiful, crisp and literally mesmerising. If you know the studio's signature eye designs you know what I'm talking about!! I knew KyoAni wouldn't disappoint with a music-related series, and as I expected the intricate details of instruments, ensembles and performance-related scenes were amazing. The sound quality was also really impressive- I watched the last episode with headphones and CRIED bc I was so overwhelmed with emotions ;__;

The pacing of the story was well done- they never dragged out complications for ... too long, and showed us some kind of performance or practice every episode to keep us engaged. This was really tasteful imo!! The characters are all well-rounded and have their own charm :-)

The 'tension' between some of the girls was endearing, and portrayed in the most innocent (?) way possible, suitable for a high school anime. In no way was Hibike GL or Yuri, instead it highlighted both love and friendship with breathtaking art and music that kept us on the edge of our seats.

Some romance is introduced, but to my relief Hibike doesn't heavily rely on that for their story line. They don't lose focus on being a wholesome and exciting coming of age series, allowing viewers to witness their personal struggles and victories.

Yes Hibike was a simple SOL yet managed to achieve far greater- it was warm, nostalgic, and both visually and emotionally beautiful <3

I love my fair share of fantasy settings, magical battles and psychological horror + gore.
Re:zero hits some of these points, but not very well.

This feels like a series I'll forget in a week or two >___> The first few episodes were engaging- the sound effects were impressive!! It was weirdly unsettling and disturbing, building tension during scenes of psychological instability and chaos- probably one of the very few aspects of this anime I truly enjoyed!! The EDs were good too.

I'd say the main flaw of this series is how poorly the foundation is structured. The setting provides nothing much other than a ... standard fantasy world with elves, beasts, humans and witches, a royal family and an ominous enemy. Just disappointingly average and textbook. The characters are shallow and we don't learn much about them at all.

This is why it's inevitable that Re:Zero fails to evoke whole-hearted sympathy and emotional attachment from its' viewers. Honestly I couldn't give a shit about the MC near the end and although I could logically understand his deteriorating mental state, I just got increasingly frustrated at his naivete, poor judgement and terrible temper. There were painstakingly obvious scenes trying to force sadness or empathy from the viewer which made things worse imo.

Re:Zero is a huge franchise, and they honestly could've afforded to invest more time in character backgrounds and setting development.

I'm going to be brutally honest. Season 2 was such a disappointment, watching it felt like a chore.

Turns out an increased budget allowed the franchise to switch animation studios this season. This was a huge mistake imo. The new studio gave the MC ridiculously tiny pupils that made him look angry and surprised 24/7 ... Yukinoshita's (FMC) hair volume fluctuated every scene I'm not even exaggerating, it had a life of its own. Yuigahama (FMC2) and the extras remained pretty consistent with s1.

I'm not even done criticising the art LOL... the direction of foreground, background and depth was all over the place- Two ... girls would bow to each other and it'd look like they were leaning on each other's heads. Someone would wipe tears from their friend's face and it'd look like their hand was floating 3cm away from the cheek. Ok it was hilarious but it also made the entire franchise look cheap.

It seems the voice actor for the MC switched as well. I didn't notice until he'd suddenly sound like a 40 year old man...HUH???
On that note, for some reason it was more difficult this season to determine whether he was speaking out loud or if we were listening to his thoughts. I'm guessing it's either because:

- the voice actor isn't changing his tone enough between monologue scenes and conversation scenes
- the storyboard direction was so poor, they didn't indicate with visual cues when he was speaking out loud

This was a huge loss because the highlight of this series (for most viewers) was probably listening to the MC's thoughts and his banter between with the FMCs.

I understand Oregairu's realistic approach to coming of age and relationships is what sets itself apart from other SOLs, but this season was just a bit vague.

My opinion on this series varies GREATLY for each season, I don't think i've watched such an inconsistent series >___> anyways,,

The art in season 1 was fine! it was simple, cute and portrayed each character's design quite well. And since it's a SOL series I don't think I had high expectations. Nothing bad to say about the music either!

But since Oregairu relies heavily on character development, personal relationships and internal struggles for their story-line, it seems nothing really happens on the surface level. This is probably why some viewers dropped it after a few episodes (I nearly did). I'd say the only thing that kept ... me engaged was the MC's monologue, self-deprecating humour and his banter with the FMCs.

All in all, it was a perfectly fine SOL series that may seem bland at first glance, but did offer some comedic aspects which aren't typically seen in a romance school-life anime.

This was a pleasant surprise :-)

The art was distinct and beautiful, and they manage to not lose too much depth or clarity from using red outlines rather than black/grey. The soundtrack wasn't really memorable.

The main attraction of NGNL is probably the story setting. It's complex- the possibilities for future seasons are endless. Yet simple enough to see how the story would move forward, without robbing viewers of their curiosity. Which is why!! I'm disappointed there seems to be no sign of a following season :-( The setting alone is promising, so it feels like wasted potential not to expand the franchise.

I don't do ... well with harem settings, suggestive incest, and meaningless H or moe.
I can definitely see why reviewers with high expectations felt like the series wasted screen time on fan-service. I totally agree, and would've scored this above an 8 if it had been more focused on quest/game story arcs. The aspect of different girls from varying Exceeds (species/races) calling the MC master or transitioning so quickly from independent to subservient just REEKS of a pointless harem setting to please the 'main demographic' for this series.

The only reason why I could score this an 8 was because I went in with no expectations, and watched it light heartedly. The setting was so engaging, so I could keep brushing off the fan service. This doesn't mean I can look past the fact they sacrificed a well-balanced and fast-paced story just for 5 of the same bath scenes sprinkled throughout 12 episodes.
