Gundam Witch of the Mercury has a strong and promising prologue that sets the stage for a dark and intricate story of space warfare and politics. However, the approach taken by G-Witch after the prologue is to shift the focus to the daily life at an academy, following the main character Suletta. With all the typical academy tropes in modern anime, it certainly gives a different impression from what the audience might have expected from the prologue. I can understand why many people are disappointed by this.
The pacing in the academy is also quite slow and uses the formula of giving each character their own
...
episode arc. However, I also see potential for building up the political intrigue among the characters and organizations that is slowly unfolding in these academy episodes. This is also the first cour of the series, and I see potential for something bigger in the future.
Throughout the academy episodes, we are also introduced to the character of Sulleta who embodies the INFP trope, being awkward, shy, honest, too good and naive, trying to navigate school life where other characters have their own political motives. We also see some character development from Sulleta as she tries to socialize. I might be a bit biased here because as an INFP myself, I can relate to Sulleta's character and her fears in dealing with the intrigues of academy life.
Additionally, there are also racial issues displayed in the world of G-Witch and even within the academy itself, adding further complexity and intrigue to the overall story. There are also some accusations that the show is "queerbaiting," but in my opinion, it's not a problem as long as the character development is not forced (and so far for me it's not). If you find "queerbaiting" to be an issue, you may want to skip this series.
In my opinion, the academy episodes could have been condensed more to avoid making the audience feel like too little is happening and causing them to drop the series. However, I want to give the series a chance because I feel that the build-up in the prologue and finale from first cour will lead to a bigger and more complex story, while still providing a light-hearted delivery (which may not be everyone's cup of tea).
Overall, because of its light-hearted delivery, I also believe it could be a good starting point for the Gundam franchise, as long as you don't mind this kind of presentation (especially modern academy tropes)

First, the problem with long-running Shōnen sequel is that people will start bombard it with nostalgia (this better than that) and it's harder to deliver world-buliding/backstory/power system when everything is already established in prequel series, you can't start adding new world rule, hidden villain etc. without breaking through what prequel has established.
Shōnen ending usually ends with world peace or post-war, so there are no real threats to the world, makes daily or non-threatening arc will be present in the sequel.
past casts are currently at their peak in Boruto (and mostly survive the war) so lots of Mary Sue moments and possibility in the future
...
episodes too (if Naruto could save the world from the strongest threat for the last century , what could possibly threat the world in just 14-15 years after??)
the Idea of Boruto being Naruto 2 is a wrong expectation. both has different context (during war timeline vs post-war timeline). People expecting this to be Naruto 2, you could see them bombarding with score: 1 in the review.
Fun fact that Naruto and Shippuden consist of 40% of filler rate (almost half of the whole episodes) so people crying Boruto being a filler-hell (while being 20% rate) are showing the world that they are a clown.
Boruto is a post-war shonen that shows "what happen after Shonen's world peace?". this is a unique perks by itself because very rare for a Shonen series to show this side of story.
You have Naruto formula of casts (and with their respective clan/family) progressing through from academy->genin->chunnin and so on. the difference is that the world is currently at peace.
the story focus on the new casts progression to be a better ninja, NOT ABOUT OLDER CASTS FOR THE SAKE OF NOSTALGIA. Nostalgia exist in Boruto but you will be disappointed if that is your intention. older casts is now supporting casts in Boruto (think all the teacher/early kage in Naruto).
Sarada is 100% better than Sasuke and Sakura in Naruto series.
if you really want to compare, Boruto to Naruto series and not Shippuden.
There is a threat to the world, but in more of unknown way rather than Shinobi war like shippuden.
if you hate filler, you can skip filler episode/arc, or even anime canon and stick to the manga canon arc instead.
if you expect Naruto2 then don't watch this because they both have really different starting circumstances and plot-idea (even when most casts use same formula from Naruto).

Remember when people are complaining about Kuroko no Basket being the DBZ of sports? And despite the backlash, KnB still stand as most popular sport anime (slightly behind with Haikyuu!! Based on MAL). So "realism" here is not really what people wanted.
Ahiru no Sora starts like your typical sport anime. New kid in school that wanted to join sport club, and amaze everyone with their "unique" perk.
Early episode got me hooked up, but later on it's just not excite me anymore.
-Very slow pacing, the anime tried to show realism in anime, which ended up feels unrealistic/fail in its own case.
- Reason people watch sport anime
...
is for the action-fast paced sport feeling in sense of anime and conflict/drama in between sport matches. Ahiru no Sora fail to be strong in any of those points. the pacing is so slow in matches that you don't feel the adrenaline, and drama fall short after characters arc (usually early-on before joining) but some backstory is great.
- Mediocre art and animation. I think it's okay, but most viewers would expect higher animation than this. lots of pauses animation during matches. we expect more 'action' in the animation.
Even if you didn't want to include super power in the anime, take the Haikyuu!! approach with the friendship/training drama or just straight up focus in the matches action like KnB or Eyeshield21
after watched Ahiru no Sora, I can't describe how I miss show like Kuroko no Basket or Eyeshield21, at least those are entertaining and actually works.

This is a review for overall BNHA although a little bit focus on season 3
BNHA is a Shounen series where superpowers , hardwork , talent , good vs bad and society are involved , and it is inspired from western superheroes as its base design.
Shounen done right, nuff said. the pacing is on point while not neglect the comedy / slice of life moment of Shounen series completely. might be a little bias , but I love Shounen but hate how Fillerto , Filler Tail destroyed it, where they could bother to create a brand new 1 cour arc and it was for nothing, not
...
even character development that matter to the plot , and this is not the case with BNHA.
almost every episode introduce something new , either plot advancement , new result , new progress or some slice of life moment (not that much , maybe 1 episode worth). did you hate how sasuke cry about his brother complex until the end of Naruto and doesn't even get a bit of progression? fear not. BNHA also introduce that kind of character but actually gives progression in just 3 - 4 episode.no prolonged issue that just slog the series.
in Season 3 , they introduce new arc. it's your "mini-faction war arc" that always present in the Shounen. think like chasing sasuke arc. they introduce the villain early , and they start clashing since episode 4. most of the character has their own fight and it was packed greatly so you didn't exhaust yourself like other series that use 2 episodes to talk , 2 episodes to fight, 1 episode for flashback and 1 episode for conclusion. The Arc seems flow naturally , this happened and then the other thing happened, and they are connected briefly and within the timeline. they keep me excited for every episode because the plot keep moving as the episodes goes.
In short , if you love Shounen with superpower , protagonist that tried to be better , school, friendship , rival , and Shounen drama but hate filler from Naruto / Fairy Tail then this series is for you.

trully an online game anime. SAO for being too extreme with it's harem-incest-romance is what makes me dissapointed with the series. SAOA : GGO is doing great as a story about playing an online game.
the story is kinda slice-of-life , it feels really relateable and not over drama. might be a letdown for some who carve drama (the popular "I can't logout drama"), but IMO it the plot fits the story about "someone who plays online game" and so far less drama
Character is somewhat 2-dimensional so far , but there are fun and interesting interactions between the cast. no big twist but enjoyable
in-short ,
...
if you wanted to watch online game anime with less drama (and no Kirito and his harem route) , I suggest you watch SAOA : GGO for a refresh and enjoyable anime.

I've read the manga before the anime. in short , the anime fails to catch up what makes the manga is so touching ,the only part that it takes is that the story resolve around deaf person
[contain mild spoiler]
the plot is jumping around , which makes some plot unexplained , even important sub-plot (like why Shoukou mother act like a jerk) , the movie didn't explain that , and simply put it "her mother is a bad mom"
Art is the best part of this anime , as you expected from Kyo-Ani , very beautiful and colorful
Related to above , the Characters are left unexplained with
...
no "character development" plot , which makes some character looks bad because lack of motive plot
the Movie seems to only focus on "moe" or "Awww" part of Shoukou act cute while she is deaf, rather than focusing on the plot that could connect all the stories together
IMO it could be better if the story is adapted into a series (or multi-episode OVA) rather than OVA , which can cover all the important aspect of the manga (especially plot).
Surprisingly , the anime got a very high score, I don't know if they mistook this as manga score , or they just go along with the hype (because anime with disability character IS SUPER FEEL ANIME MOMENT I HAVE TO APPRECIATE THAT), but no , I think this OVA lacks a lot of things , and I suggest you read the whole manga and you should realize how underwhelm the OVA is

Okay firstly im sorry for not so good english and for those who thinks my score is underated for this anime... okay here we go
Art 9/10
First time i see the opening scene, its wonderful! I'm sorry if this is so biased, but I like how the graphic drawn , its colourful and look solid. its like , despite any other aspect , I will surely watch any anime with such graphic or similar to it, its just look promising. my own way of scoring anime anyway. one word, the ART is wonderful.
Sound 8/10
Not much to comment here, I think everything just right , like OP/ED
...
and Voice Actor is doing it right for every character, not really much a problem
Character 9 / 10
I like how the character designed , like everyone got different personality and unique
like the mysterious character, the traitor character , hot blooded character, absent-minded yet powerful character , loyal character , charismatic leader (sorry , try to be not doin any spoiler , so i just describe the major part of character personality) , every character has room to develop and some character past surely bring curiosity to the watcher and make them want to know more, but.........
Story 4 / 10
Here's the thing got awful , the anime theme is about the kings war which is good, but as you can see before , there are lot of room for character personality development, and some decent explaination about their past is needed yet the anime didn't really bring anything up. only a very slight was shown and what worse the anime only stand for 13 Eps which left behind many thing unexplained. I think the story got a lot of potential to be great but yet , its just potential, if its not developed then it's not.
Enjoyment 4 / 10
They just sum up my curiosity on every Episode and then the anime just finished like that which is giving me a really less enjoyment about it. hoping for a second season but only ended up got some 2 hour-ish movies which i'm sure not explain everything.
Overall 5 / 10
I think for some graphic design / manga drawer / fan art people , this anime is great ( I got some friend who work as graphic design love this series and do a lot of fan art)
but for me who watch anime for enjoyment and story , I think this anime flaw in many parts. I think i'll change the score if there is 2nd season (26-ish episode) which if there really is , will surely explain all the mystery.
