This anime is not a very good example of how adults should act but it does show that in reality, some adults can be stuck in life and love and don't always have things figured out.
I'll talk about the good parts first. The music just right. Very minimal but comes on in scenes that require emphasis.
As for the art, the semi old school style fits well with how average the characters are.
The one thing that infuriated me in this series is that it seems to be targeted to teenagers but has adult characters. Their behaviors were childish in terms of not
...
being able to deal with their confusion and indecisiveness.
They purposefully made the 4 main characters dumb as fuck to make their boring lives more turbulent.
The reason why I said it's not a good example of how adults should act is because teenagers shouldn't learn how to lead people on. If you're confused with your feelings towards a person, do not make them wait if they said they'd wait, force them to quit because you have to deal with your own issues yourself and not let others fix it for you.
For Shinako, she's made Yu her whole world and never developed a personality of her own that's why she's at a loss for more than 6 freaking years after he died. People should be saving up for themselves and not giving everything they got for one person. Super indecisive and insensitive to other's feelings. Such pick me energy.
For Rikuo, he's trash. Can't make up his mind and is too nice to turn Nonako down. He cannot directly say to one girl that he would like to pursue the other because at the end of the day, we all want fallbacks if things don't go as planned which is really bad to show in an anime. He's a person who can't say no and therefore has no boundaries.
For Rou and Nonako, I sort of understand the immaturity since they're just 18. At 18, you think you know what you want but there are other things in life that can still be explored. They seem to not get hints that they're being rejected. I know for Shinako that Rikuo doesn't openly say to stop pursuing him but she's just so persistent and blind to hints that girl, he don't want you + she borderline stalked him after just one interaction. That's so weird. Kids, don't stalk people. For Rou, he basically is devoting his life for Shinako the way she did for his brother.
The anime failed to show good resolution to the actual emotional problems to these characters.

The best thing about this show is the music and sound effects. Even in the lighter parts of the series, the music gives us momentary comfort before a sense of foreboding. I like that the sound effects are perfectly placed. Careful to not give us a heart attack but still make us have chills run down our spine.
The art was okay but what caught my attention more was the way they accentuate certain insignificant scenes like the sugar melting in the coffee or shots of the dolls from the doll shop or the ever so annoying bird. I thought these were a nice touch.
...
For the characters, not gonna lie, some of the deaths are satisfying (did not intent for me to sound like a psychopath) like the girl with the glasses on the end. Some deaths were unexpected like the first one with the umbrella but after that, ones we've established the main and side characters with the most screen time, we can predict that the rest will die in some way. I am glad this is an anime tho because if this was some final destination live action shit, i'd stop on the third episode.
One thing that frustrated me the most in the series is how nihilistic Misaki(girl with the eye patch) is. People are literally wanting to kill her, she be hanging on a pipe on the wall and no sound is coming out of her mouth. Her teacher offed himself with a knife and still no signs of anything on her face. No panting, no screams, no nothing like we get it girl, you don't wanna show your emotions. No wonder people think it's her. Sasaki, the MC, is a tad unbothered too like dude your classmates died. I get it. This was how they were written but the death and fight scenes were all pretty realistic, I wish they could have had some realism in the kids' emotions too. I think the series could have shown or done more research on the trauma inflicted on children when witnessing death.
I know this is a mystery/horror anime but it could have been way more terrifying if the story gets into the viewer's psyche

Story: Pretty generic. It's a light series with heavy themes but it's very predictable. What I like about it is that the humor is properly placed in the whole series. It did make me question myself why I'm cheering for them when they're the bad guys too. It's a battle between evil and lesser evil and I think that concept is not much applied in animes today.
I did drop this series because of the sheer amount of second hand embarrasments I got from the main. Also, I repeat, story is predictable
Art: I appreciate it. It gave me totally spies vibes because the art is
...
very similar. It's more like a cartoon for adult swim. Great use of color that fits well with the atmosphere of the story.
Sound: I like the opening song better than the closing only because I feel old listening to the latter
Character: Very mediocre. First of all, why the hell did they make Edamame the most clueless character ever. He's such an underdog with no redemption arc since even after the time skip, he's still very dense and ignorant of his surroundings. No wonder he's always getting pranked and tossed in a mission. Also the blonde guy and the red haired lady are bullies and are emotionless. They are the great pretenders and not the main protagonists they're the most manipulative out of everyone in the series

I thoroughly enjoyed this anime because of the following reasons:
1) The series is on Netflix so I don't have to worry about ads
2) It can be finished in one night. Maybe even four hours and then you take the rest of the night to watch reviews and ponder about the events
3) It's an emotional rollercoaster. There were some funny bits and scenes that will really make you curl up in a ball and cry (atleast that's what I did)
4) The mature scenes is right up my alley (sex, violence, vulgar language)
5) The animation is so surreal and obscure that it's good. It's so fresh
...
on the eyes. Like a twisted version of adventure time-like animation
6) In the beginning we thought that the MC is extremely OP then as the series goes on, we can see that he isn't and that he is flawed like how a human is flawed. I've come to love him as a character because his human flaws is what tied him to earth and he never lost his values after becoming a demon.
7) The rapping was soooo good! The rap parts where the best lines in the series. The rythmn was generic but the lyrics were good. Also, I their placement in the story like how they only show rapping at the start of some episodes that set the tone of that said episode
Downsides:
1) Story is fast paced
2) I wish it was longer.

Prior to watching this movie, I've always hated Yokozawa as a character probably because he was written to always be on opposition to the main character.
In the end of season 2, though I think that the 2nd main character's treatment to him was very cold and harsh, he deserved it.
Releasing this movie is the creator's smart way of making Yokozawa's character more appealing to the audience. He had the best character arc and quite frankly got the best ending out of the 3 couples that were in the series. He was very likeable in the end.
As per the story, it had a
...
bit of a less lighter theme concerning broken families due to death that only added to the depth of the movie. It showed us that even these types of families can be whole again.
I super love that fact that the kid never once questioned the relationship of her father and Yokozawa as she only sees him as someone who brings her treats and takes care of her. This is how same sex relationships should be portrayed in movies.

Everyone who has dropped this anime is missing out on the genius that was put into the story and the characters.
The characters have very developed stories and all of them are lovable in their own ways.
This anime actually makes the characters realistic, instead of the usual over-the-top reactions. (This is probably the reason why some people dropped it)
The main character (Sakuta) is very witty and quick minded. He also has lewd thoughts which I'm sure any highschool boy can relate to. This is the reason why his character is very well thought out.
Sakuta and Mai’s flirting is the most authentic feeling
...
in all of anime in my opinion. It is so witty and cute and is what so many of us dorks want at some point. It really makes you root for them and want to see more of them in the future.
It had some precious moments and my favorite was when Mai slapped Sakuta's face instead of her sister during a fight he wasn't involved in.

I understand the mixed opinions on this show because we often expect an anime to end like the usual or how we wanted it.
This is one of the few animes that lingered in my head weeks after watching it because of how developed the characters are. The plot is truer to life than what I expected and maybe that is the reason why I wanted to give it a bad review at first.
Doing a bit of pondering and looking in to the source material, I've come to appreciate the decision of the writer in the direction he wants the characters to take.
I also
...
remembered it has a perfect musical score and dream-like animation.
This is the anime that opened a whole new category of seinan to me.
